28-year-old Natsu Tsukioka (Ren Meguro) works for a printing company in Tokyo. One day, Natsu Tsukioka hears that Mizuki Nagumo died. They were in a romantic relationship when they attended the same university. They broke up after Mizuki Nagumo suddenly told him that she wanted to end their relationship and she disappeared afterwards. He didn't hear anything about her for the past 7 years after their breakup. Natsu Tsukioka attends Mizuki Nagumo’s funeral and there he meets a young child named Umi (Rana Izutani). He is surprised to learn that Umi is Mizuki Nagumo’s daughter. Mizuki Nagumo’s mother talks to him and tells him that Umi is his daughter.

Freda Apr 20 2025 1:31 am I love the slow pace of this series. It gently raised so many questions about rights - of parents, children, grandparents and even significant others that are not related by blood. So many intricacies. The characters were complex and sometimes flawed, Mizuki more than most. It is a common trope in many Asian dramas that one of a couple decides it is in the other’s best interest not to know. Is it a part of Asian cultures- a saving face - or something. Anyway it seems selfish, but makes for good drama! This one is absorbing and finely acted - just so good.

Rei Feb 18 2025 12:09 pm I want to see Kasumi Arimura and Ren Meguro as a happy couple in a series/movie but not with this kind of plot. To be specific, I want them to work with different creative team. I just want a light, fluffy, and slice-of-life kind of series/movie for them.

Will Jan 12 2025 1:40 pm Can someone please explain Natsu’s family to me? I just watched the scene where he explains that his father and brother are not related to him by blood, and his explanation makes no sense to me. Or is it explained better later on?

Bob Bear Dec 28 2024 6:32 am What is up with this reoccurring theme in asian dramas were they must create as much angst as they possibly can. They love a situation were people love each other but must break up and it's all good. We mere motals who live in the real world know this rarely if ever happens. You both deeply love each other but for some noble principle or notion you sacrifice this happiness and think it's all good and live your best life after only 3 minutes tops of tears and sorrow. The line that sticks in my head is Yayoi saying " although my choice has hurt the both of you I don't regret it for one second" seriously who does that to a man yoj love and a child and have zero regrets apart from a psychopath. Also they never examined the complete selfishness of Mizuki. Lying and manipulating others then writing letters to interfere in a relationship she knows nothing about and was to spoilt to have herself. Keeping a father in the dark then rocking up to his door only to run away when you seen his girl hence the wreckingball letter. Then she gets herself a library simp who pines after her but she still loves the father of umi so he gets no joy not even sympathy sex when she's dying. A lot of decisions in this drama could be questioned but it apparently wants us to just bite our tongues and decide it's for the best no matter what so suffer on.

soom Dec 21 2024 8:00 am A-list acting all around, and some serious social issues investigated, regarding reproductive rights and ramifications of decisions made thereon. Not much pigeon holing or use of tropes. its a gradual reveal of the situations and backstories that take time to flesh out, so requires patience and attention to timeline details. Not for those looking for a formulaic fluffy series, but rewarding and thoughtful looks at human interrelationships. Wonderful child actress is given a great viewpoint by writer.

Adrian Dec 09 2024 7:57 pm I thought this show would be about a single father who has work related to the sea. Also, I don't like the ending. The deceased mother doesn't have a right to that kind of parallel universe; she's the one who ruined the family and the previous relationship of her former bf. After all the sacrifices of Yayoi for Umi and Natsu, she just ended up with that kind of treatment. The writer of this show is really weird huh. The writer loves to glorify emotional cheating and to give trauma to her audience. ?

Almost done with first episode. It’s so touching. The male lead is a good actor. Could feel the shock and sadness and devastation. Never thought I would see a man pressured into an abortion quite like that. I was assuming he didn’t know at all she got pregnant. The papa bear reaction for hearing people talk badly in front of the little girl. Gosh. So far the adults seem reasonable. The little girl is darling. His face shows all the emotion. Hope he got an award for this.

I watch more Korean and Chinese dramas than Japanese ones. This is starting out really promising.

kriz Aug 24 2024 11:48 am I don't know yet how I describe this movie but I was watching all hits Japan movie and Japan Series since 2016 till near 2023 and after it I became lazy to watch Japan movie or its Series cause on that year the genre was confused and flat, I don't know why but I think Japan best Movie or its Series was not always appear every year. Anyway I miss kind of this Movie, the vibe such like "Love that make you cry" on 2016 Series and make us think deeply again about life meaning and its way to reach of it. So this kind movie was like nostalgic for me back to 2014's and make me recall how I feel that time. I thought that time flied to fast and now we're adult and was like the person on the drama, we serve out out life like movie and facing the life reality
