Queen Wongyeong (Cha Joo-Young) was born to Min Je in the Goryeo period. She came from a prestigious family that produced numerous high level government officials over many generations. Queen Wongyeong, known as Lady Min at the time, is married to Yi Bang-Won (Lee Hyun-Wook), known as Prince Jeongan. His father is King Taejo, the founder and the first ruler of the Joseon dynasty. Yi Bang-Won wants to become the next king, but his father selects his second son Yi Bang-Gwa as his successor. Lady Min and her husband Yi Bang-Won are not happy about that. She works as a kingmaker to help Yi Bang-Won become King Taejong and they create a new regime. After Yi Bang-Won becomes the king, he acquires many concubines. Queen Wongyeong is upset with his concubines and her relationship with King Taejong deteriorates. To strengthen his authority, King Taejong moves to keep Queen Wongyeong and her family in check.

Cl Mar 04 2026 12:16 am Overall, solid drama. Costumes were amazing, acting was strong (sometimes a bit intense). The political scenes dragged a little, but Queen Eungyeong carried the show for me brave, caring, powerful. Centering her felt bold and refreshing. Hated the Kings stunt to manipulate . And yes, the ending made me cry. Eungyeong reminded me of queen Seondeok seires mind all the time

- "and they were constantly changing prince(s) and confusing us the more." The changing princes? Korean royal history is messy, that’s kind of the point. Taejong was Taejo 5th son and Taejong had about 32 princes and princesses offspring (Great king Sejong korean alphabet creaor was oneof them)

-"My best Historical Series remains (Missing Crown Prince) missing crown prince is simply the best historical series ever." Come on that's not even comparable Taejong and Wongyeong were real.. they took existing historical figures, a few historical event to rewrite a more cohesive story despite facts (the show literally says so) and give Queen Eungyeong some spotlight as the strong, overlooked woman she was. Lee Geon is fictional yet I am glad "Missing Crown Prince" brought more people to historical dramas. @jess - "This drama reminds me of everything I hate about historical drama" Totally get that it’s not for everyone. . it s great that you still took a shot on this difficult one fiction, -" I can’t count how many “Choooonaaaaa kill me, I deserve to die” it was just so serious jeez, from beginning to end it’s fight, war, treason, coup, there’s no warm moment, no chance for a “ha-ha” and the male character pissed me off so bad jeez, "

this drama never mentionned comedy fantastic and it would have never been the happy ending that you expected as this series is reference as Historical Dramatic Politic and kingdom which heavily points toward korean History

and as a viewer thats your job is to check what kind of serie is it. go the extra mile sometimes to avoid deception or losing your time

Stephen Jun 21 2025 6:41 am Great series, really enjoyed it. Cha Joo Young is an outstanding actress, superb acting. Great cast and she is truly a queen that crowns. If you haven’t watched this, you are missing out on a great series. Wish there was a second season.

Ada Feb 18 2025 6:44 am Interesting series indeed!! I started with great expectations and glad it didn’t disappoint. I give everyone their accolades cuz they played their roles perfectly. However, I was disgust and angry several times with the decision of the King; infidelity, unnecessary killings and unjust banishment, etc. Excellent casts though! I loved it to the end

At a point I lost interest and was just fast forwarding the whole thing. This series was not interesting and they were constantly changing prince(s) and confusing us the more. My best Historical Series remains (Missing Crown Prince) missing crown prince is simply the best historical series ever.

As for the characters everyone is doing well and it's not predictable like some other dramas

Cha Joo Young carried The show on her shoulders. Idc what anyone else says. The concubine girl was more on center than actual leads. The girl neither have charisma nor skills to carry that much screentime. Pretty sure she has a lot of connections.

Her and Lee Hyun Wook's on-screen chemistry is simply through the roof!!!!! ???The 1st 2 episodes are simply daebak!!!! Finally, my Mon-Tuesdays will be on fire. Crossing my fingers that roof will be like this through 12th episode..?
