A dreamlike story of love and breakup.

Ha Young-Eun (Song Hye-Kyo) is the leader of a design team for a fashion company. She is a cold-hearted realist and she prioritizes stability first. She is smart, beautiful, self-disciplined and sensitive to trends.

Yoon Jae-Guk (Jang Ki-Yong) is a popular freelancer fashion photographer. He has everything like intelligence, wealth and handsome appearance.

Park Min Feb 16 2024 2:15 pm There was something to be said along the lines of "it's about the journey not the destination" but there was no journey or destination to speak of here. At first, it seemed to be a worse version of Encounter (2018) but it turned out to be much worse than that with a stinky trashy tag engraved to its title. Usually Song Hye Kyo doesn't step this low but this proved to be otherwise, it was undeniably her worst project ever. The genius writer shamelessly adapted the deplorable trope of constant interruptions with any hints of a real conversation or dialogue at sight. I have no respect for creators who pull such moves. The drama was filled with the type of dialogue and cheesy one-liners that you would read in a fanfic, it was even filmed from the point of view of a one. Anyway, the drama was an unwatchable junk from a modern lens. Now, I'm Breaking Up With This Drama!

Erika Jan 06 2024 11:20 pm Geez this could have been solid 9/10 show if not for that absolutely bananas theme. Naming the show "Now We Are Breaking Up" and then forcing that ridiculous plot point throughout with the main couple was just stupid. So much so that after 3 episodes I didn't even root for them anymore. Didn't care about their relationship and actually wished they would just End It Already and put the audience out of our misery.

But let me tell you about the redeeming points of this show. The costars! Choi Hee-Soo and and Kim Joo-hun made the hotter couple and I was invested in them from jump! Their relationship was beautiful and worthy of being the main storyline.

The other best friend (Misook) and her tragic storyline was compelling and well acted by all parties. Feeling sympathy for the villains in that arc was not in my life plan but they acted the hell outta their story.

Those two storylines gave me a full range of emotions that I expect of a good drama. Even the rest of the office staff had my attention.

But i really need Song Hye-Kyo to stop fooling yall. The Glory was a role she was made to play. But after seeing her flat toned, repetitive cadenced, still and expressionless face in Two supposed romance dramas, (this and Encounter) She. Ain't. It.

And Ki-Yong only gave me one believable line the whole show (Telling his mom "I said I loved her!" in episode 11 or 12) Otherwise I felt like I was watching an audition reel. I hated Both of them with those internal monologs that I guess were supposed to be poetic but sounded more like a metaphor word salad.

So yea, watch it and FF as much of the main couple as you can to save yourself the irritation.

Overall the actors did a good job of holding the drama together since they managed to get an excellent cast & did y'all notice the small reunion of Dr.Romantic 2 & 3 casts? They have Director Park Min Guk, Dr. Jung In Soo, Professor Shim & Dr. Bae Moon Jung

I am not after happy endings as much as an ending that respect sane minds. It's like the writer and had drunk kerosene (an expression in my homeland for people doing illogical stuff). Very disappointed, the show cold have been very good, especially that I am a fan of the leads. PLEASE Kdrama makers, respect the viewers' time and minds.

Extraordinarily good performances were continually dragged down by the pervading feeling that we were all attending a non-stop wake. Thank G for the roles played by Choi Hee-Seo and Kim Joo-Hun. Without them playing giddy, silly, lovers we might have begun to think that we were all mourning the death of romantic love in kdrama.

And i love jang ki young and song hye kyo even though they are 11 years apart but... how can they look good together ? You should be more than 30 yo or divorced with kids to understand this drama wholeheartedly.

Kudos to you, Jang Ki-Yong, for catching up with Song Hye Kyo. All of the actors are fantastic. I enjoyed the story and did not feel stressed while watching it. ❤️

Renwa Jan 18 2022 2:52 pm This drama has gotten very mixed reviews. I’ll add my very mixed feelings as well. It was emotionally provocative & deeply saddening by the ending. I thought the cast well chosen, professional with good chemistry. I enjoyed the story line too. That said, I found a fundamentally flawed script that was essentially unfinished & not matured over the time line of the drama. The talents of the actors & director weren’t given the opportunity to adjust/fix the script’s inadequacies. The drama starts strongly & passionately but only delivers frustration & sadness. Historical tidbits about the lives of the main characters which may explain their adult responses never get expanded/matured or woven into a narrative supporting the main characters behavior. Many of the subplots certainly suggest other type relation challenges. The violent responses by the mothers of the main characters reflect merely over acting without justification. As the drama progresses we are left with lots of hanging issues/responses that never find a logical home in the narrative. It’s as if the two main characters are boxed into a corner rendering them helpless…pretty disasterous for a talented actor.

Jillibean Jan 15 2022 12:39 pm I've been watching Song Hye Kyo's dramas since Autumn In My Heart (2000) and this one just seemed like a walk-through to me, something she did for money, and for the prestige of working with a newish male star in his twenties, while she is in her forties. Neither the writer or director here have an abundance of projects under their belts. Maybe that had something to do with the lack of excitement or originality in the drama. She's supposed to be a fashion designer but you never see her actually designing anything. Lol. It's like when characters own restaurants but you rarely see them cooking. I still think her best performance is in That Winter, The Wind Blows, with Jo In Sung. I hope her next project is one where she is paired with someone closer to her own age.

Although the message from this drama is beautiful: love at the moment despite an uncertain future, the execution is boring. I find the drama to be boring from beginning to the end; however, I did find the friends’ relationships more entertaining.

For me, just seeing Kyo unnie and Ki Yong together makes my heart flutter. The pace of the movie may be slow for some people, but for me, It’s so amazing! Anyone can fall in love with someone at first sight, especially if it's their destiny! I love their moments together and I really respect and appreciate those moments. They make me really happ and heartwarming although they make me cry a lot too! Thank you so much NWABU team for giving us amazing drama! Thank you so so much!

RAnthony Jan 08 2022 2:29 pm The sub-story of Mi Sook was the most interesting part of this drama. They could have made it a drama of its own. The second leads interaction was also amusing to watch. While the two main leads have enormous talent, I feel that they were wasted. Their plot line had a few high points but it was mostly boring and that is the fault of the director and writer. The final episode could be missed totally and have no effect on the drama.

There are no chemistry between the main leads, feels like they suddenly madly in love with each other without enough background story. The only thing I enjoy is the story of Mi Sook preparing for her death. I cried a river! The ending is meh. Wasted my time.

RS Jan 08 2022 7:45 am Was able to watch until Episode 15 and will definitely finish it. The show is not that bad, the problem is there is really nothing new about the plot. The acting of the leads were satisfactory but nothing outstanding. Highly recommended if you're interested in the fashion industry.

The work place have always the same issues, the mother in law plot too, the rich friend who doesn't do much is there and the couple issues are really boring. The main couple is not really interesting bc the only thing they do is worring about breaking up, so everytime they are in scene time they are not really being a couple (plus, the end of episode 12 doesn't make any sense at all). For me, the best couple is the married one and I always love when the woman show up, she is amazing and I looking foward to finish her story.

dewe Jan 02 2022 8:12 pm IMO this drama is neither as horrible nor as excellent as what many commenters here posted. it's the kind of star vehicle well-produced/ well-made drama but with textbook storyline that was prevalent in the mid-to-late 2010s. who should watch it: those who want something chill and relaxing to watch at night after a busy day without having to think and worry much. who shouldn't watch it: anyone wanting something different from usual in their K-drama.

Larsen Dec 28 2021 2:33 pm This kdrama is the best for 2021. It tells a lot about the harsh realities of life...particulatly on relationships and break-ups. Those who do not understand the harsh realities in life will never find this drama interesting at all because they cannot relate to it.

Watching kdramas with such plot as nwabu cater more to matured audiences. It is so loaded with significant messages on family relationships, true friendship, true love and work determination This is not for the young and the restless which comprise majority of the viewers nowadays. These young people still need more experiences about the harsh harsh realities of life to appreciate the messages nwabu wants to convey thus the poor viewership rating.

Personally, this kdrama is Superb. The cast and crew did a very good job. Kudos to all of you.

My felicitations too for Ms. Hye Kyo...welcome back. I know you related yourself much to this story. There were storylines which fits to your personal life to a tee. Nice acting Ms.Kyo...nice acting.

WillWatchTilTheEnd Dec 26 2021 1:36 pm Pretty good mystery love drama. I like the writers setup here. When did Cookie first lay eyes on Ha Young-Eun? It’s as if he has known her since who knows when. Ha Young-Eun is tough after seemingly being rejected but never asked what happened to her 2 month love interest. She just moved on in a hurt state of mind only to work. All the players in the beginning are are available for use including the swatch book with the inscription written by Cookie himself with “Sono”. The photo she purchased, the guy who sold here the photo, being in France at the same time. It’s as if they have been together for so long Now, We are breaking up. I suspect there will be some clarity in the final episode. Why else would they keep us hanging on to see the conclusion. All the other side story lines support the love or separation narrative. This is why Ha Young-Eun’s is so guarded. One broken heart in a life time should be enough. Pretty good story line in my opinion.

Lucy Dec 22 2021 5:36 pm This is one of the unique drama right now. You either like it or not. The plot is classic and cliche but it shows us a different aspects of breaking up. Many said it's boring, for me it's not boring, the lead chemistry is good and they have mature solutions for mature problems. Of course there was some annoying things, like repetition for the Paris photo buying scene and the transition between scenes is not that smooth. But it's worth watching. The lines are good, the acting of JKY and SHK is good. The side story is fun and diverse. And we must prepared for sad ending...

claire Dec 21 2021 9:18 pm i'm only on the third episode and wondering why does the male lead did so many emotionless stare? Like at some point it's getting boring. Also the way he's so unprofessional and only want to work to flirt with the girl he like although she's been saying no multiple times to him. Reeks "i could fix her" attitude. SHK's character is fine. although i feel bad for her.

I like the second leads, tho. CEO of the PR and director hwang. I think they will have better storyline and much chemistry going on. Will be watching for them.

It's very hard for me to see successful and independent adults tolerate parents acting so abusive. I prefer Seok Do-Hoon and Director Hwang Chi-Sook story! And the idea that 3 women (ok, the mother is comprehensive) have frozen their lives because of this guy, Yoon Soo-Wan... Not very convincing for me. 10 years is a long time. In Judeo-Christian society, according to the law of Moses, if a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity. However, if a man dies leaving his wife with no children, his brother is expected to marry his widow and the first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother.

I'm not aware of a South Korean ethic which frowns upon a union between a man and a woman where the woman previously dated the man's brother who passed away. Anyone who knows about SK social protocols care to comment.

1122 Dec 13 2021 7:47 am Some people would say its boring, but for me its not because its just a reflection of our reality in life, where some us spend to much time to regret something, and some just wanting to live the left days of their lives, now we are breaking up is great, people who didn't see the series behind its cover will never understand the message it wants to convey, lets all be realistic that the drama showed us what's the reality, in home, in work, society, people prejudices, crab mentality, love, self validation, dreams, carrer, and how we should begave according to what people set to be normal. in my stan its an over all view of our lives, you may see its boring because your life runs differently from how the drama convey, but if you try to understand and have deeper analysis to this drama you will understand.( mostly teens don't like it, because they are not yet on that age where they need to understand LIFE.♡

To me they are the most realistic actors not saying the others are not good it's just the style of acting is more realistic to me. I love how the main leads are portraying independent carefree attitudes towards love and how they want to live their lives, especially when she spoke to the mother at the end of the episode she was so on the up and up it was amazing to see. I have been watching Kdramas for 2 years now straight and this is the first one that I can relate to the most main. One-night stands, kissing in public, not caring whether or not the parents give their permission to date or not to me is more realistic than not especially at the ages of the main lead.

But now it seems they set with the business uncertain endeavours as the main menu, which i think is the right direction for the series to move along nicely. Many drops this drama bcoz it is boring or what but I guess, we should respect them. We all have our own drama preferrences, mine was crime-thriller coz it really bring butterflies to me but see? I was hooked with NWBU bcoz I love how it brings WAarmth.

Warmth from love that supposed to happen 10yrs ago but fate did didrty so it became chaos at the present. Warmth from family, see how closed family of HYE and how her parents got her back in everything she do, so she is fueled. Hoping for JaehGuk to do the same as the series continues. Warmth from friendship. I just see how adults fueled their friendship by being there.

I hope some of ppl who drop this series will find warmth on their hearts.

Her character is that of a woman who wants everything to be under control and she delivers well. I do not think she is required to be loud here. She has become cold and indifferent because of her circumstances. I like JKY too. Artist, lover, brother. Both actors show different facets of characters that have become stereotypes in kdrama. I'm awaiting the next episodes excitedly.

Her and jang ki yong both have great visual and more suitable compare to Encounter couple still i like Encounter the most. Encounter feels like a warm chocolate everytime both lead together and so amazed for the way they acted. Shk always great with mellow esp when crying scenes, loves her eyes whereas for jky i didnt feel anything not really amazed by his acting or maybe bcs i'm not fond by his type of acting?

About her choice of drama, I am also okay with it. I adore her since 20 years ago and still adore her today. I do enjoy her pairing here more compare to PBG. The leads, the storyline and everything here are perfect for me. Cant wait for their 5th episode

For more than 20 yrs in entertainment her drama years are less than her hiatus years. So her appearance in TV is refreshing all the time. I dont get it when people criticize her character in each drama. SHK always breath life in her roles, be a doctor, a blnd, or a designer. I don't know what kind of handsome appearance you wanted to see but I think he fit the role. And SHK's role here is someone who's somewhat not yet over with her past relationship and has lost that Love sort of Feeling, so I don't think u can say that based on her acting she was forced to do this.

I think it's wrong to base our judgement due to their age gap, but I also don't think it's right to dis others or the other actor for that reason lol.

jay Nov 20 2021 1:02 am why is SHK always playing the same old role (cold, cynical, serious….), there’s no freshness to it at all. She needs to take on mj challenging roles. To make it worse, she’s always paired with actors way younger than her. I love PBG but Encounter was too hard to watch. it was a complete mismatch. This drama is no exception As many have said, JKY’s acting here is just flat.. he has acted well in other shows, in this case it’s likely a bad choice of role and lack of chemistry with the female lead.

Probably that’s what happens when you have been watching kdramas for last 10 years. The only scene where shk has to put her skills is when she recognizes male lead and that scene was pulled only bcuz of camera work. The sequence of scenes look all forced not like properly weaved. And the rest is like some one earlier mentioned …it’s like she is extending her character from Dots.

Else I think people will enjoy.

I am intrigued by the plot, the setting amazes me too bc I haven't watched any that focuses on this field. Its personal taste I guess? I am honestly looking forward for the next eps, ep2 is a bit of a cliffhanger. Chemistry wise, isn't it natural that at first, the leads weren't that cheesy, etc? I see that there's this "you feel like a stranger" kinda vibes here, which is okay and can be deceloped in the next eps

And love love love the chemistry of the leads. Although their are some cliches, but overall the plot especially the female protagonist character is definitely something new. I’m tired of watching female leads who are ultra conservative so seeing Song Hye Kyo playing bold and daring character is a welcome change. The love scenes are daring but tastefully done. The dialogues and lines are super relatable for women my age. Excited to see how the story unfolds.

I'm more interested with fashion industry thingy from NWABU. They wear good wardrobe, very chic & stylish which give us a retail theraphy moment while watching this drama. The visuals, no doubt from me...the main actor&actress are drop dead gorgeous (I'm head over heels for JKY aka Mr J aka Cookie-ahhh). I definitely continue watching NWABU til the end, coz why not??? Can't wait for the next episodes. (BTW I don't understand with some salty comments here. Has the drama finished yet??? at least make sure you watch the complete episodes before throw your summary. LOLs)

About acting i think it’s their role since JKY lost his brother thats why he lacks expression while SHK lost her boyfriend which is JKY’s brother. Both of them lost someone they love of course they have to act serious like that, this is melo drama not romcom. Give it a chance to people who haven’t start this yet, dont just decide it by reading reviews since everyone has a diff opinion ?

so far it feels kinda flat shk's acting is somehow monotonous and robotic her character is blury and i dont see any improvement from her descendants of the sun era. jang ki yong seems uncomfortable and rigid. maybe its because of the lack of chemistry between them. He honestly was so good with hyeri.

anyways ill still give it a chance because its still to early to decide if its good or not

Jang Ki-yong and Song Hye-kyo are excellent in the lead roles and have great on-screen chemistry. I'm familiar with Song Hye-kyo from "That Winter, the Wind Blows," but Jang Ki-yong is a new face. My only complaint about the series is that the subtitles disappeared from the screen altogether during the second episode. They only reappeared sporadically towards the end. It was frustrating trying to figure out what was taking place!

Song hye kyo's acting is (excuse my language) repetitive if not stagnant. Her way of acting in this drama is the same as Descendant of the sun & Encounter. Mind you, am not saying it is bad, I am just saying I am quite disappointed in it. Soon enough, her executing her lines are gonna bore me (especially if the script is those type are repetitive).

The writing style I can tell would be the type that would run out of steam very fast. I give it to episode 5 before people start complaining. (I bet my bubbles on this)

Why was the 1st episode rated 19+? The supposed steamy scenes did nothing to the drama and the episode could have done without it.

Also everyone is pressed about it being a "noona romance" wtf? why is it an issue when a woman is older than a guy but normal when a guy is older than the girl? Like that's considered normal. regardless of the age difference y'all never say anything when it's an oppa-dongsaeng so please Whether the guy is older, or the girl is older should not matter. Many couples exist of both types, we must not think in backward, double standard heavy society way!! The fact that you only see age when the woman is older is F'ed up. Every single leading couple in kdramas has age difference (usually guy is much older) so stop making it an issue...

girlygirl Mar 24 2021 8:58 pm They most definitely could've paired 1st FL, Song Hye Kyo, 39, with 2nd ML, Kim Joo Heon, 41, I've only seen him in It's Okay Not to Be Okay but he did a great acting job, especially in the romance/comedic department. I love the 1st ML acting too but 2nd ML would've been better match as 1st ML. I'll still be watching though haha.

This role doesn't offer him anything new (same with SHK).Both have been in dramas with similar plotlines. Goodluck I guess I wont be watching this :(

They kept partnering her with a younger guy just bc her and SJK clicked but that was different even though i dnt like JoonKi anymore i must say that they're loveteam was one of a kind and no one can top that no matter how many younger ML they give HyeKyo so why not just let her be with someone who will at least have a better chemistry w/her rather than pairing her with younger guys and trying to find a new JoonKi... For me personally I'd like to see her with top actors like Gong Yoo her and Jun Ji hyun would be a delight to see partnered up w/ him
