Hong (Lee Se-Young) is a Korean student studying in Japan. She meets Jungo (Kentaro Sakaguchi) and they fall in love with each other. But, they break up due to different thoughts about love and practical problems. 5 years later, Hong and Jungo meet in Korea.

Leena Mar 31 2025 1:43 pm In my opinion.. this was the best Korean Drama in 2024. The story, the cinematography and the acting is superb. I got introduced to Lee Se Young and become a huge fan of her because of this series. Kudos to all involved, you guys did a great job!

eeyao Mar 28 2025 10:37 pm i still come back to rewatch scenes from this drama. some parts of this show were a bit cliche, but the chemistry between the main couple was SO startlingly sincere that you get drawn into the melancholic vibe. like the feeling of this drama still lingered for me for months afterward, and i haven't felt that about a romance drama since i watched Innocent Man. lol

Lee Seyoung is absolutely fantastic, i'm amazed at how smooth her Japanese sounded considering she learned it all in 2 months (i heard she memorized even her counterpart's lines so she'd know how to emote on time in Japanese).

bottom line: watch this for Lee Seyoung's amazing acting (especially the argument scenes!!), Kentaro's nice face (they really try to hide his good looks with that giant mop of hair lol), and the moody soundtrack.

Nothing can beat the story, cinematography, scoring, directing, Lee Se Young's performance in on-point, she is so good here. I will be disappointed if she will not win any award on this serries. Seyoung's chemistry with Kentaro is insane. Highly recommended.

Annie Dec 10 2024 2:51 am This drama is a masterpiece. It’s like poetry in motion. It reminds me of Before Sunrise where you take a very intimate look at a couple and see their natural chemistry evolve.

The cinematography, score and most importantly the acting is breathtaking. The script is well-written with memorable, haunting lines that convey the depth of emotion felt by the characters.

I don’t know how Kentaro Sakaguchi and Lee Se Yong pulled off an on-screen relationship where they looked so in love in the flashbacks, and then felt such anguish / longing in the present. Given they don’t speak the same language or share the same culture, it’s amazing they were able to convey such natural intimacy on screen.

This is not action-packed, cheesy or cliched. It’s raw, honest and understated. I don’t think this drama will appeal to everyone but I found it beautiful, unforgettable and immersive…even the ending was perfectly consistent with the subdued tone of the show allowing the viewer to interpret or draw their own conclusions.

The cinematography is great, well-written story, the musical scoring is excellent, the actors performances are on-point, love the direction, and Lee Seyoung and Kentaro Sakaguchi's amazing chemistry. I love it from beginning to ending, not just your typical KDrama. I've watched it gazillion times in VIU. One for the books especially for Lee Seyoung she was excellent on this series. Good job, everyone!

Jillibean Nov 07 2024 6:59 pm I kept getting deja Vu vibes with this drama to the beautiful unforgettable classic drama Friends in 2002, same year as Winter Sonata. Only that classic had a Korean leading man (Won Bin) and a Japanese leading lady. Loved the acting and cinematography on both dramas, although the soundtrack in Friends was a million times more beautiful. I still listen to it to this day. I love when Korea and Japan join forces for the arts considering the friction between the two nations in the first half of the 20th century.

Eric Moon Nov 03 2024 7:56 am Friends, it wouldn't be a Korean drama if it didn't have an open ending, didn't you see there was a quote at the end of episode 6, namely: "Flowers that bloom in spring follow winter snowflakes" where previously there was a scene of Hong and Jungo running in winter, then followed by with the scene of them running in the spring, it shows how their relationship continues. With this scene, the director asks the audience to guess the ending of the story without needing to explain it clearly.CMIIW

eeyao Nov 02 2024 7:22 pm (SPOILERS) some people are making the ending seem like something horrible happened - it's actually a happy ending, don't let that scare you from this. the cinematography and acting are great in this story and it's worth the watch imo.

however i agree with those saying this needed more episodes, particularly to better understand the FL's point of view. the 6 episodes are so limited in scope that her actions can seem selfish unless you really try hard to read between the lines (her family's business failing, failing to make a life for herself in Japan after her friend went back to Korea, etc).

my favorite scenes were the fight scenes - i felt the actors got to showcase a lot there, and they were the only scenes where real communication happened so they were cathartic. admittedly for me, episode 6 is a bit of a letdown. not because i think they needed to kiss and hug each other, i actually like that it was more subdued, but i think their reconciliation needed more said. the whole problem with the story is that Jungo's realizations comes from a book whose contents the audience cannot fully understand simply by watching the series. so the choice of scenes in the last episode don't give enough peak/climax, particularly after the emotional tensions of episode 5. it's also frustrating to include so many scenes where the actors miss each other (like Jungo chasing after Hong from the hotel and missing her leave - for the umpteenth time). the show relied on some cliches that seemed out-of-character for the depth they were trying to portray.

i really enjoyed Seyoung in a drama like this, i hope she continues to choose interesting and thought-provoking roles.

rohanni Oct 25 2024 10:13 pm I love how they learned to let go of their own guilt and regrets by communicating and forgiving each other at the end, I will view it as a realistic ending because the characters are able to look at each other without feeling any hatred anymore because the misunderstandings were cleared and they got freedom from their regretful past.

I watched all the way to Ep 5, and ep5 gave me signs that I might not want want to continue to watch, but I gave it the benefit doubt and watched it, and it went exactly as I feared. There was no chemistry again between the people they forced to get back together even

The writers didn’t make the girl and her soon to be husband have any chemistry and I suspect it is so they could force this ending on us

Anna Oct 19 2024 6:38 pm I feel like I relate to this drama, I fell in love with a Korean and we really hit it off very well.the only difference was we were long distance UK to Korea. Though I put a lot of effort to engage with my partner and vice versa. We got married and soon after that I felt we fell apart. He stopped calling so much no more I love you messages. We would talk once a week! It felt like we aren’t dating anymore just 2 strangers. I became sick so I ended up being lonely dealing with everything alone.i got my diagnosis which made me more depressed and more lonely. But I dealt with it as best I can.when I used to travel to Korea I showed a lot of interest in his culture but he slammed my culture. Just being negative always and I felt we were not meant to be. The stigma to my condition was tip of the iceberg for me. He is better off being happy with someone else I guess. I’m just a burden!

We had reached the point of proposal. Our circumstance, at that time, was full of adventure and had limited "adult" responsibilities. We were in our early 20's and every moment seemed enchanting. Once we started discussing our future, the reality of our divergent expectations became painfully evident. Family, career, finances, religion, household, and children become topics that need clarity. The choice of what dreams you compromise to sustain your relationship has the potential to create barriers. What dreams do you forfeit? Do you give up your expectations and potentially resent your partner in the future? You can love someone immensely, yet understand that they don't have a place in your future. In this story, the MF chose not to live what she considered "a subordinate" life filled with loneliness. I still have tremendous affection for my first love, but recognize that he was not the right partner for me. Just a thought...

Traversing the barriers of language, culture, individual needs and expectations, they have a deep love for one another; however, the depth of their affection cannot meet the needs of each person. She expresses herself verbally, and he communicates through his pen. What pierces the heart is that they are still very much in love, but have yet to find the path to mutual satisfaction. We have been introduced to her realization of the unmet needs in the relationship; however, we have yet to experience the relationship from his lens. Usually when a couple breaks up, one or the other loses affection for the other. It is not the case in this story. The nuanced acting, incredible cinematography, timing, and support characters make this show amazing. I hold my breath during each episode.

gretchen Oct 12 2024 2:43 pm Although the break up seemed unclear, episode four does make clear that each of them in their own way understand that they were young and idealized love in relationship. I anticipate a sad ending, at least for the leads. But who knows? It doesn't seem like there actually could be a happy ending because of the two significant others now.

The chemistry among all the actors is palpable, believable. I would like to see more of her father too. it is nice to see Hong Jong Hyun play this sort of character. I know his work mainly from Moon Lovers in which he was a villain. :/

I look forward to watching all (6 only?) episodes back to back.

K drama fan Oct 11 2024 10:32 pm This is such a nice drama that one can really relate.if you are in a different place with no family to turn to when you are feeling down, you will really feel lonely and rely on your partner a lot, and when your partner is not there all the time you will feel more lonely. The drama quotes that loneliness weakens love is really true. That’s one of the reasons why couples separates. The chemistry between the lead couple is so beautiful, the acting is so right, the cinematography really gives you a romantic vibe. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Kentaro and Se-young are both excellent in their acting, I can’t help but feel their love and pain.Their visuals are perfect and I have to commend Se-young for learning Japanese so well. That’s dedication to her craft. I hope to see more Japanese and Korean drama collaborations in the future.

Lara Oct 03 2024 5:13 am Why can't this be 16 episodes? Or atleast 10. 6 is too shot for their phenomenonal acting. Omg! Kentaro's deep voice is so good. I'm learning Japanese and this gives me more motivation to do so. Their visuals are beyond the world. Also waiting for Kentaro's movie this Nov called Beyond Goodbyes. It's so nice to see Japanese and Korean actors work together. Gonna add this to my forever binge watch list.

Sometimes love van be too much to bear. A bit like: the unbearable lightness of being. Then meeting again will start to find the bearable variation. I am really looking forward to the rest of the story. The chemistry is what makes this story real.

The first two eps are so good!!! I like how comfortable they are with each other. The chemistry is just chef’s kiss!!!! Please I haven’t seen this kind of intimacy with other dramas recently. They also portray the angst so well!!! I’m here for the bucket I’ll cry for this kdrama. The cinematography is also good it’s a like a mix of jdrama and kdrama. I just really hope this will have a good ending!! I don’t want to be too heartbroken
