Dog Mask's identity is unknown. When heinous criminals avoid punishment from the law, all citizens over 18 years old receive a text message polling them on whether that person should receive the death penalty. If more than 50% respond in favor of the death penalty, that person is killed by Dog Mask. Meanwhile, the police chase after Dog Mask and three people become involved.

Kim Mu-Chan (Park Hae-Jin) is the leader of the First Investigation Team at the Southern Police Agency. He only cares about his career at the police agency.

Kwon Seok-Joo (Park Sung-Woong) used to be a famous legal scholar, but he killed the rapist who attacked his young daughter and then turned himself in to the police. He is now in prison and he is called Professor by the other prisoners.

Joo Hyun (Lim Ji-Yeon) is a police officer who has worked at the Cyber Safety Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for 5 years.

iwassawasiwas Dec 12 2025 12:29 am I find the story concept curious and interesting in a positve way, though how the "Killing Vote" aspect of the story was established could use a little more work as neophytes to watching K-Drama may find the process done hastily/lazily.

The pacing and the plot twists happen quite fast as well but worked well in the overall flow. especially in the early episodes. Whether the viewer would have initial theories as to who Gaetal could be would not matter that much as those guesses would get re-thought quickly even before the viewer can re-examine what had been laid out so far to support such theories. I find some twists and revelations past midway of the series quite promising as far as further development of the story and the characters arcs are concerned but which were wrapped up hastily despite the series having about 2 episodes left—episodes which were seemingly devoted to staging an ending open to the possibility of another season. Although another season going back to the same concept of "Killing Vote" for the sake of "exacting justice" may be quite a tough sell at this point in the story, I still hope that one does push through as the ending had left a handful of viable avenues worth exploring.

My only nitpicks are

— The series could have casted a different actor and actress for the characters of Joo Min and Ji-Hoon. I have nothing against those two, but their physical appearance doesn't quite fit the looks of their characters in High School. Seo Young-Joo's deep voice didn't help at all and there was even a scene between him and Park Sung-Wong where I literally got confused whose line was which as their voices sounded almost identical.

— I think that the parting of ways scene between Ji-Hoon and Seok-Joo, though good, still had room for further improvement in the acting, delivery and even directing aspects. The lines had the simplicity and rawness that captured the sentiment but just somewhat delivered the bare minimum. It could have been an epic, money-shot scene that would perfectly sum up the dynamics between their characters—especially with what would transpired afterwards.

— Not sure if there were actually some, (but what seemed like) the product placements / indirect advertisings are sooooooo cringy, blatant, shameless, unnecessary and ruinous to the story. I hope that K-Dramas would stop doing that or find other means of getting/benefitting sponsors without such pathetic methods.

Overall, "The Killing Vote" is worth one's while.

reiko Apr 27 2025 7:50 pm (Spoilers) I've been super annoyed by Im Ji Yeon's character, Joo Hyun, and the sister, Joo Min. I hate grown up characters that bawl like a toddler when they cry and the sisters, especially Joo Min, do that a lot. I don't know if they're written that way for comedic touch, but it's so annoying.

Also, Joo Hyun is quite the hypocrite. She lectures about "work ethics" and gets mad at Mu Chan for doing questionable things to solve a case like beating up suspects and planting evidence, but she's done questionable things herself—like disclosing confidential info about the case to high school students, and doing illegal searches and illegal confiscation of properties. I like Im Ji Yeon, she's a great actor, but the way her character is written is just a little messy. In any case, the cast has been great so far, as expected—especially the actors acting as "villains" or targets for the killing vote, like they're so despicable, I want to vote for their death too.

Kim Kwon and his child version, Choi Hyun Jin, are the most captivating for me—switching from sweet to sinister so smoothly, and when they turn sinister, they're scary. I'm glad their character died but I wanted to see him scared. Instead he died with a mocking laugh—annoying until the end, omg. Anyway, i want to see the actors in more projects.

The ending is kind of a mess. They seem to have set it up assuming there would be a season 2 but so far no news of such project in the works. It's infuriating that the evil assembly woman, who enabled the evils of her son, got away seemingly without heavy consequences. Sure, she lost her evil son but that's actually convenient for her because he was a heavy burden, a spoiled rich unhinged pervert she had to consistently coddle and clean up after. I don't understand the path of Mu Chan though. Did he become prime gaetal's successor or not? They showed him wearing the gaetal mask after beating up the traitor gaetal, but it's a cheap mask (not the one with a voice-changer) and he's always been like that—he has no problem beating up suspects when pursuing to close a case and that guy he beat up was doing something dodgy. I suppose he decided to become gaetal because he just left him there instead of arresting him after.

So please, give us a second season, because this was one of the best K-Dramas I ever watched. The story line is incredible, literally incredible, how can someone think of this things. Like who would think about creating a vote to kill people who killed someone by fun, or killed just to avoid getting their reputation ruined by something bad they did, really who would think that in the Korean nation. I love how this series show us how can the world be and the law too. I love how it show us the pain the people sufferd in their lives and what they had to go through just so they could feel happiness again. You can interpret this series in so many ways, you can watch it by being on the police side or of those who want to make justice happen, and you can choose to be in the devil side too, but that I will not include. Now I'm addicted to this series, and for sure I will be watching it again.

Anyways I really hated the son/mother duo even the mothers secretary as well as the reporter chick they annoyed the heck out of me. So many of the higher ups were corrupt just made this drama even more annoying but I couldn’t stop watching it. I sincerely was hoping that none of the good guys died, but I cried for Ji-Hoon.

The ending feels like there’ll be a S2.

What happened to the prof is really saddening. He lost both of his children because of the same witch and her family and yet she walks free and smiling, argh! Can’t wait for S2 where she is hopefully & cruelly for good finished.

The reporter and that witch’s bodyguard were the only characters that were pitiful and annoying…Ok, i understand the former was trying her best to pave her way and survive in this industry, but the latter how could she turn a blind eye to every evil act the mother and her maniac son did *smh*~plus she carried out some of them! wt-…this is not power, this is pure helplessness and powerlessness. Idiot and she was sacrificed in the end~hehe she deserved it.

Its sad to see how SBS has destroyed the ratings of an excellent crime drama. Not only by switching it from an originally planned twice-a-week drama to its present once-a-week, but also managing to schedule it on a weeknight that has seen constant postponements of The Killing Vote since its 7th episode aired in September.

While ep. 11 is currently scheduled to air on November 9th with its series finale airing on November 16th, should a little league baseball game from a kindergarten in Gyeonggi be ongoing at the same time, the drama may yet be postponed ?

It seems the latest trend seems to be one episode per week. I really miss all episodes being released at once, but I’m sure the current trend is increasing the numbers.

Honestly the schedule for this drama is so weird and all over the place, I wonder if any Korean viewers will remember it and stay interested enough to go back to it next week.... really sad for the writers, director, and actors who have all done an amazing job so far. Tbh it's been really gripping so far (on episode 7) but even I'm starting to lose interest, and I've already forgotten what happened last episode. A total of 3 and a half months to air a 12 episode drama...

I think it seems like the writers or director might once again need to look for a better broadcasting station or it would be better to just direct it to a streaming platform

As Kim JiHoon is revealed to be a close friend of NaRae and he was supposed to be adopted by the family, I think he has something to do with Gaetal (or he is Gaetal?),. At the first episode, he was seen looking at LeeMinSoo with anger in his eyes (atleast that's what it looks like) and also he is good with computers..at the first episode too LeeMinSoo(who is revealed to be Gaetal for now), was chatting to someone before they started the first Killing Vote, so he is being directed by the real Gaetal, so I was thinking he is being trapped by KimJiHoon (who I believe to be real Gaetal) and in the end LeeMinSoo will be the last to be trialed in the killing vote, by his mother without them knowing ofcourse.

They just want us to believe hes the good guy in the series. when the reality is he is working with Kwon Seok-Joo and faking the amnimosity interaction between them. And im pretty sure Kwon seok joo will play apart as one gaetal.

I think Lee Min-Soo started this killing vote to seek revenge against someone (Kwon seok joo or Mu chan)...Hes one of the gaetals, but hes unware of other gaetals (Mu chan and Kwon seok joo) that join the crusade of taking revenge against criminals who got away.

Mu chan and Kwon seok joo is trying to wait for the chance to take over the killing vote since Lee Min-Soo is on control of it and the gaetals.

I bet the end of this is Lee Min Soo death sentence in the killing vote when Kwon seok joo has control of it since we can safely say that he learned the truth in the prison that he killed the guy who murdered her daughter.

"There are millions of people and anyone could be Seok Joo's fan" no. They are only targetting the people who were in the court room during Seok Joo's trial. That's why they need Seok Joo to go to the hospital to see if there are anyone from the trial that he recognizes.

I think Lim Jiyeon's character here is very different from Glory. She's always been doing that lip thing since many movies ago but you never noticed because the first time you noticed it was during Glory since it complemented her character so well, so now you notice it everytime she does that.

Now really stupid parts. So joohyun goes to pick up seok jo and tells the rude guard lets hurry up before reporters get air, then again while transferring him in car she says again on the phone so far we have no witnesses who saw him and no reporters as well who saw him, like how stupid it can get? You are saying we dont have witnesses who saw his release and you are practically taking him out pf prison, comnuting him in car to a diff place, taking him out of car at new place without overing his face without any kind of measures taken, noone covered his face, his head ,didn't take him out in some kind of disguise and are relying on luck that noone sees him.

As if it wasnt bad enough it got so embarassing when she takes him openly to the hospital with his face open and he is the man she is supposed to hide from media, and when she sees cops she pushes him to the corner to hide him from the world, waaaah! What a genius, then she has an idea and she puts a mask on his face, like in whole several days of his release the first time ever she finally had an idea that she should put a mask on him to atleast cover half his face to hife his identity. Like gosh!!!

Then next extremely ridiculous part. On one hand it is shown moochan is given cases noone can solve because he uses wrong ways to solve them. But seeing the way he works it only looks he just ruins the cases all the time. So they have kept seok jos release hidden but suddenly moochan calls joohyun and tells her to bring him to the venue, so much for it being a secret operation and genius joo hyun brings him around barefaced. Now someone ask moochan there are millions of people and anyone could be seokjos fan, what kind of loigc is it that when seok jo will see gaetal he will recognize his fan, tleastt make it make sense and dont sound so stupid. Then worst part, moochan calls and tells her to bring seok jo to location of crime, at this point moochan doesnt even know where is the exact location and he is talking to possible targets lon phone which meaant he had to also be in touch with joohyun to tell her where to bring seok jo. But what is so funny what happens, genius moochan in his car is doing his own investigation with no connection with joohyun who is carrying an important person from the case and moochan isnt even bothered contacting her after first call. She does her own investigation and without communicating with team leader acts over efficient and reaches the hospital, oh now that they have arrived at hospital now moochan will rememeber to call her and tell her where to come to learn she has place already figured out and without sharing with team she is already there.

Like its funny that moochan after calling them to come out wont contact them and if other team didn't figure out it just meant joohyuns team should just keep driving around on roads without any purpose. What a teamwork this team has.

Now lim ji yeon, she hasnt grown out of glory role, most of the times it just seens like she is a villainess biting lips and doing other strange things she does to lips. Snap out of glory. Had seen her in rose mansion, it was aired before glory and she was a normal human back then.

Then not to mention her character is one of the worst ones. I dont even get why is so over zealous in catching gaetal. I still cannot forget her running like an idiot towards car with bomb in it. Also taking teenagers to the site of investigation where she gets assaulted.

Also agree below with @sf about that female inspector, ever since that street fight scene with civilians she has been intolerable, like always cussing and making aggressive faces like she is the most important person on planet. What with adding such useless characters. When the civilian was talking rude to her fellow officer and she interfers, the way she was moving corner of her lip upside and making her tongue bulge out on side of her cheek.....

Those two students, instead of being at their home at that late hour, have been in a place they shouldn't be. There is one more character in this drama who annoys me every time I see it. Is the policewoman Kang Yoon-Ji, who, even if she is so short and looks so fragile, is so agitated all the time. I became stirred every time I saw her.

The female lead still looks same as she was in the glory (she looks evil) but also unrealistic here. Her younger sister is far more annoying, the lack of common sense makes it unbearable. Either it’s the actors acting or how the drama wrote the characters to be. Like sister is an high schooler but meddling in so much with police work? She had no interest prior and isn’t some genius but acting up like she a main character. Female lead as well taking high schoolers around with her, exposing classified info to them. Annoying. Unrealistic. Lack of common sense. Unbearable. Could have been a great storyline if it had likeable characters and things that made more sense.

The real question now is whether Kwon Seok-Joo knows the truth. I have a hunch that he learned the truth after he killed Byun Woo-Taek that he got the wrong guy. As for if he is the Masked dog or part of the Killing Vote. Maybe. He has a motive to do it.

If I remember correctly, Kwon Seok-Joo said that one of Byun Woo-Taek stab wound was different his daughter. Which is an information that only the killer or the police would know. So, I think the real killer is still alive.

Paula Sep 04 2023 1:39 pm I recommend this series to fans of crime kdrama. Only 3 episodes behind me, and the series has already "bought" me ? . Especially Lim Ji-yeon in her role. Quite different than in "Glory", but equally convincing. Lim Ji-yeon looks gorgeous in wavy hair :) If it's not natural to her, then the stylists had a great idea to curl her hair, immediately the heroine gets a different reception.

SPOILER: It seems that Kim Mu Chan's remorse over the Kwon Seok Joo case is largely what drives him to try so hard to catch Dog Mask.!

So Kwon Seok-Joo killed the wrong person, does he already know that he made a mistake?

But he's connected with Gaetel even tough it doesn't make sense someone so bad was him trying to act with justice. But his mother is also bad....

And Kim Ji-Hoon should have said what he saw in the day of the explosion. At least the teach would be a suspect

If they were going to realease 1 ep per week, it should have 8 episodes at maximun. It's going to take 3 months, its more time than the other kdramas ans its harder to keep engaged with the story while the other dramas are going to be faster

The FL run there to save the ML, not because she stupidly run without motive. The police did a poor job in securing the place, but the female student already at a safe distance The director did cut at the wrong moment and create confusion..other than that it is clear

In ep 2 end cyber cop girl is running towards car like a bull then explosion happens, same scene was shown in ep 3 beginning. Then nothing further was explained and they just said a cop was seriously injured. Then many scenes later we see there is lot of smoke or some gas outside the car and johyun is escorting moochan then an explosion happens. There was no inbetween shown between her falling behind from explosion and her dragging moochan with her when explosion happens, no scene was even shown to explain was the first scene when she falls down from explosion was real or a fake by film makers and if fake then why? Every drama doing such thing provides explanation. But this show didnt, a viewer had to infer on his own to guess that prolly 2 explosions happened but then why would dog mask be such an idiot to carry out 2 explosions, what was even the point? And even if that is what writers were trying to show, explain it clearly. Then he clearly gets out of the car and she pulls him, media's cameras with hugearse lights were capturing everything, huge deployment of police was present there yet noone saw him coming out and No one saw a woman in white coat running towards the car, dragging him.

And yes genius she was never shown running to the car because 'she saw him coming out of the car', watch things properly before telling others they didnt watch carefully. She runs headon towards the car when guy was insife the car before any explosion and without any reason, like there is a bomb there what will you do running towadds it like a crazy bull, want to turn into barbeque bulgogi. Duh!

Yes we know the school girl runs to find her sister and this is what we are saying is so stupid, her sister is a cop, she was told to leave and in that high alert danger zone younger sister like her older sister without any reason was running towards the car one when she doesnt know where her sister is and she also knows her sister is part of an operation so she should leave.

Won't even waste time about arguing over her taking photos out of blue while she is running like a crazy. Dramas do have issues which is a usual thing and are discussed but it is fanatical fans who are most irritating who try to defend poor writing.

I'm guessing the main character Kim Moo Chan is the Dog Mask, but that would be too obvious.. so maybe Kim Jo Dan the police guy, either one of those two since they have similar body types! Just my guess after watching the 1st ep.. maybe there will be new characters in the next episodes for me to be suspicious about lol can't wait!

I want to see him and Park Sung-woong acting together again since in Man to Man the chemistry between them was excellent. Lim Ji-yeon excellent actress, I saw her as a villain in The Glory, I want to see how she does as a good cop.
