Ae-Jin (Shim Dal-Gi) is a high school student. Students call her ugly and she is bullied by them. The only friend she has at school is Jin-Sung (Yang Hong-Seok). Ae-Jin also has a secret which nobody knows about. Her secret is that she is famous and popular social media influencer Genie, who has more than 770,000 followers. Ae-Jin makes her selfies look beautiful by photoshopping her pictures and then posting them on social media as Genie.

One day, Ae-Jin receives a text message and an untouched photo of herself. That person is aware that Ae-Jin is Genie.

Mary Jane May 24 2023 3:15 am The drama is ok. I finished till the end but it's just an ok. It was interesting enough to keep me going but after finishing it, it's not really that memorable or heartfelt, despite their efforts to make it so. I think a part of it is that the pace felt rush and it wasn't enough to redeem the flawed characters. How did it take Ha Neul so quick to figure Genie out? So her mom died and out of nowhere, she got a 180 redemption for her bully antics before? Ho In had issues but a stranger who faked to be Genie was enough for him to open up but not his own girlfriend up until the breakup happen? How did they even get together? How could Ha Neul tolerate his coldness for so long? Jin Sung is the only one that is a clean cut perfect character but it took way too long to reveal that as well as him not even a main part of the storyline. It's really forgettable.

All in all, 70/10. The high score for manage to keep me watching till the end, although only 20' an episode mostly contributes to my patience

OMG i just hate Goo Ae-Jin!!! I hate her character so much more than the bullies =)))) her mental health wasn't even address in this issue. We dont know if she's really imagining things or what.

carol Dec 29 2021 10:58 pm one of the best dramas i've watched in 2021! i already watched some of bomin's dramas and i am a fan, but i think this is definetly one of his best works, i really liked it! i'm really sad it ended, the way the story is told in the drama is kinda different from the webtoon, in a lot of ways i guess, but i think that even if it's different they told the story really well and i was really satisfied with the addaptation!

Lla Dec 25 2021 2:24 am The show is kinda exaggerated and dramatic but its still pretty good. Love the slightly artistic feels with the hairstyles, uniform and cinematography. Its a short web drama so just watch it casually without some high budget quality expectations and youll love it.

Btw nagyung's acting is great.

Haru Dec 13 2021 11:40 am I shouldn't watch this drama from the first place. Then why did I click and start watching it? This drama hasn't finish yet, and the curiosity of what will happen in the next episode is torturing me.

I thought this drama is just another 'meh' and cheesy web drama, but it is Not. I'm wrong. I started watching this drama without any expectation because I barely know the actors or actresses here. But this drama proof me that I am wrong. You don't really need well known actors or actresses as long as the story, the acting, and the directing of the dramas (or movies) are good. For me, the timing of the story is well prepared. At first you don't know what is actually happen, why Lee Jinsung close to Goo Aejin, why did Yang Haneul bully Goo Aejin, why Goo Aejin afraid of Yang Haneul. But they peel every reason carefully each episode so that you can relate to their action. They changed pov several times so you will have mixed feeling of whether you like the characters or hate them. I sometimes understand of Aejin's feeling to like Haneul and hate Haneul at the same time. But on the other hand, I understand Haneul's action (even tho that was totally wrong and no one should do that).

But other than that, I am curious about Sun Mijin. I know she behave like a devil (and I don't care about the reason because I think that was her true self). What I curious about her is: what is her feeling when there is famous internet influencer have exactly the same face as her? It should be bother her because THAT is her face, but why would another person get the profit of her face? No matter where she goes, everyone will recognize her as Genie. It's really the worst when you are labeled as fake when your face is the real one and the other person who are faking their face is labeled as the real one. That would be really suck.

Oh my god... I think too much about things I shouldn't think. And why did I watch this drama before it is aired all of its episode? Why??? I cannot handle this curiosity.

Lee Dec 11 2021 10:36 am I'm surprised that this kdrama has more appeal than even 'Happiness', 'Inspector Koo', 'Jirisan' & 'Now we are breaking up' despite all the heavy-weight names like Lee Young Ae, Song Hye Kyo & Gianna Jun in these titles. 'Shadow Beauty' has good pacing and keeps you quite at the edge of your chair., while depicting the reality of social media. The female lead, Gu Ae Jin though not your typical kdrama prettiness, is actually a really good actress. Her naturalness does come through & there's no cringy moments despite her plain Jane appearance.. Even the male lead, Ho In , despite being abit creepy & weird in this role, does a pretty good job too. Definitely chasing this drama??
