Do Ji-Ui (Lee Jae-Wook) is a plastic surgeon and works at a university hospital. To serve as a public health doctor, which fulfills his mandatory military requirement, he quits the hospital. He wants to avoid getting assigned to work on an island, due to trauma he has about the island and the sea. Unfortunately for Do Ji-Ui, he is assigned to work in the remote island village of Pyeondong-do, which is a notorious island that every public health doctor wants to avoid. There, he meets Nurse Yuk Ha-Ri (Shin Ye-Eun), who works in the public health branch of Pyeondong-do. She used to work at a university hospital, but, for some reason, she came to Pyeondong-do and works here as a nurse. She has passion for her work and affection for her patients, but she also holds a secret.

Serving as a public health doctor in the remote island village Pyeondong-do, Do Ji-Ui helps the island villagers and learns love from them, who are full of stories and personalities.

Notes

"Doctor On The Edge" takes over the ENA's Monday & Tuesday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "The Scarecrow" and followed by "Dream to You" on July 13, 2026.
Based on webcomic "Jonbeodoctor” by Kim Tae-Poong (first published February 25, 2022 via Kakao).

Jillibean Jul 09 2026 3:21 am @ Dario, if you enjoyed actor Kim Yoon Woo in Doctor On The Edge then absolutely do not miss him in the historical masterpiece My Dearest (2023). His character there was incredibly written, totally unforgettable.

I finally finished Doctor On The Edge a day late and was truly sad that it ended. I will miss the characters here dearly. All the actors, both leads and supporting, were perfect for their roles. I am glad they left it kind of open for a sequel. :) One of the best of 2026!

Soonrok Jul 08 2026 2:12 am bruh srsly, i had high expectations with this drama. maybe my fault, but ofc it's jae wook/ Yi-eun is also a great actress. There's really no plot with this drama. Nothing to look forward, it's one of the dramas that I'll probably skip but I just watched this solely because of the leads. They cast actors and actresses well, should have worked on their plot to be honest.

Olya_1004 Jun 30 2026 3:02 am Man I am sorry but I cannot stand any of the female characters from the clinic. The 2nd nurse especially is so aggressive for no reason,the Korean medicine doctor doesn't deserve that treatment and her voice is so annoying. Main lead,I usually love this actress but this role doesn't feel right for her. I especially didn't like how she acted towards the main guy during the whole thing with her grandma. I get she was hurting but he never convinced her grandma to stop treatments or pushed her to it,he was just supportive. Main nurse is also annoying ,all through the first few episodes she keeps wanting to make the main lead basically bow down to the whims of the residents while it's not ethical for him to do so,instead of being able to do his job he has to worry about appeasing their feelings and do what they want. It's like no one was supporting the main lead. Personally I think this drama has been a bit of a miss for me, nothing to feel bad about if you don't watch it.

A drama needs either good dialog or enough action or emotion from their characters to propel it forward. Not seeing it here.

I am still watching(ep4). Done with ep3, so here is my another comment for ep3. What I liked most was how Dr. Do's character was challenged. Instead of being a brilliant doctor who instantly wins everyone over, he faces distrust, complaints, and even public humiliation from the village chief. The episode shows that medical knowledge alone isn't enough—you also need patience and trust when working in a small community.

Again, remember Character Growth in Korean dramas is a staple of their storytelling technique, which is partly why Korean dramas have become so popular worldwide. It's beautiful to see that transition.

Character growth in Korean dramas has been a staple of their drama stories for decades and it is in such sharp contrast to most television shows in America: the way characters are at the beginning of an American series is the same way they will be at the end, while in Korean dramas the characters will not be the same people at the end of the story as they were in the beginning.

If you understand this about Korean dramas you will learn to be patient while watching their storytelling process.

If the title of the drama is "Doctor on the Edge," then let's focus on the male lead character rather than the simple nurse. Until now, it looks like Yuk Ha-Ri is the centre of this drama.

Dr. Do seems too much stupid make thing that can be solve by communicating solve in hard way because he choose to not communicate and moreover in modern day with foldable phone in hand there is no car / bike available to be use for patients visit standby at hospital like all they have there is two feet, boat and helicopter. The actor and actress deliver good performance but the writer is too dense creating unnecessary and unnatural problem just for the sake of plot story. 3/10 for the drama based on the story writing alone. Not sure if i can watch it till finish.
