Kotaro Harada (Sadawo Abe) is 50 year old single man. He opened his law office after quitting his job as a prosecutor. He has appeared on TV shows as a guest commentator and he is well known to the public. In his personal life, he has lived a solitary life after his parents' deaths. He doesn't have any siblings and enjoys being alone. Even though many women have approached him, he has never fallen in love. One day, he feels something wrong physically and is taken to the hospital. He is suddenly in a life and death situation in the ICU. At this time, he feels anxiety and loneliness for the first time. At the hospital, he happens to meet Nerura Suzuki (Takako Matsu). She is a 45 year old single woman and works as a high school art teacher. After her mother's death, she has lived with her father, younger brother, and uncle. She doesn't show her emotions and she never smiles.
Kotaro Harada is drawn to her and her mysterious charm. They suddenly decide to get married. Kotaro Harada begins to live his newlywed life in the same apartment with his father-in-law, brother-in-law and his uncle-in-law. Nerura Suzuki has a secret that she doesn't tell Kotaro Harada.
