Sung Min-Chan (Ryu Jun-Yeol) is a pastor who runs a church in a small town with a mission for church planting. One day, a man named Yang-Rae walks into Sung Min-Chan's church. At first, Sung Min-Chan is happy to see him, believing he is a new believer of the church. Sung Min-Chan's is disappointed when he realizes Kwon Yang-Rae is an ex-convict and he is wearing an electronic monitoring anklet. Sung Min-Chan then receives a divine revelation from God that Yang-Rae is the person who kidnapped his son. Sung Min-Chan believes that it is his divine calling to punish Kwon Yang-Rae for committing the crime.

Meanwhile, Detective Lee Yeon-Hui (Shin Hyun-Bin) is in charge of the missing person case involving Sung Min-Chan's son. She is also continually haunted by the vision of her dead younger sister who died in a horrific crime in the past. Despite her devastated state of mind, she chases after Kwon Yang-Rae, who is the prime suspect in the missing person case, and looks into the suspicious paster Sung Min-Chan.

Sanity Nov 15 2025 11:12 pm Revelations was Alfred Hitchcock-esque. Ryu Jin Yeol is one of my favorite actors. This was my first time seeing Shin Hyun Bin in a lead role. She was excellent. Shin Min Jae nailed it in the villain role.

This movie contains a lot of triggers. I watched it through in one go. But. I paused it a lot because there were so many jarring moments. The way they filmed scenes as if the viewer is looking through the protagonist eyes was amazing and artistic.

This movie is not for the weak-of-heart. It’s a psychological thriller. But. It may be the best movie that I’ve seen this year. It’s quite a ride. So, buckle up!

seun Jul 01 2025 2:51 am it is kind of psychopath film. the pastor obviously gone nut and oblivious with his imagination of getting god's message.

the storyline quite heavy at slow paced, the 2 hour duration is quite long with some unnecessary scene but then its quite fun watching it.

ryu jun yeol acting is good here, cant get it why he didnt get much of small screen casting.

Jillibean Mar 28 2025 10:24 am I watched this film simply on the strength of my fondness for lead actor Ryu Jun Yeol whom I had loved so much in Lost (2021, on Prime) one of the most intriguing Korean dramas I have ever watched. I honestly didn't like the way his character as a pastor was portrayed. His character was destroyed by the devil and it was not easy to watch. I found more to like in Shin Hyun Bin's portrayal of the female cop. I had loved her in two other dramas and knew she was a good actress but she really saved this film from being totally dire. The writing seemed like it had some plot holes and it was strange there was no actor to portray his little son. It would have been nice to see early or at least flashback scenes of his closeness to his son so that we would understand better why he flew off the handle trying to protect him from the monster (when he was already safe at home!). The film just doesn't leave you with any warmth. It was just a horror film.

Opposite him, Shin Hyun-bin shines as Detective Yeon-hui, whose grief over her sister’s tragic death fuels her determination to stop Min-chan. Their clash becomes the film’s backbone, blending personal anguish with broader questions about morality.

Kwon Yang-rae (Shin Min-jae) adds layers to the drama as a troubled ex-convict haunted by childhood abuse. His connection to Yeon-hui’s past and Min-chan’s paranoia drives the plot, though his backstory feels rushed at times. Notably, the film avoids romanticizing his suffering—Yang-rae shows no true remorse, and his prison stint leaves him unchanged, positioning him as a volatile figure doomed to repeat his cycle of violence. This stark portrayal challenges narratives that trauma inherently justifies or excuses harmful behavior. The script critiques how society often prioritizes perpetrators’ psychological context over victims’ pain, eg protecting the human rights and mental health of criminals while minimizing the rights of victims and their families.

Verdict: Revelations won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, its bleak tone and moral ambiguity demand patience. But for fans of Yeon’s work or psychological dramas, it offers a stark, thought-provoking ride anchored by powerhouse acting. Perhaps it’s a 7/10 rating for me, it’d have been nice if there’d been more physical action.
