A search takes place for "M" who wrote something on the community board of Seoyeon University's website.The writing turned the university upside down.

Ma Joo-A (Park Hye-Soo) is a 2nd year student in the Business Administration Department at Seoyeon University. She has a warm heart and bright personality. She is not interested in pursuing a dream or having a romantic relationship. She has never had a boyfriend before.

Cha Min-Ho (Jaehyun) is a 2nd year student in the Computer Science Department at Seoyeon University. He has a talent for developing apps with innovative ideas. He has been friends with Ma Joo-A for 12 years.

Seo Ji-Min (Roh Jeong-Eui) is a student in the Economics Department at Seoyeon University. She is also a member of the schools cheering squad.

Park Ha-Neul (Bae Hyun-Sung) is a student in the Business Administration Department at Seoyeon University and he is an honorary ambassador for the university.

Notes

Kim Sae-Ron dropped out of the drama series, shortly after press releases were released announcing the main cast. A disagreement with production company Playlist over lead actress credits led to her departure.
First script reading took place on October 14, 2020 in South Korea.
Filming began October, 2020.
Airing of "Dear M" has been postponed due to numerous bullying complaints against actress Park Hye-Soo from when she attended middle school, high school, and college.

Park Min Jul 16 2024 9:13 pm Right off the bat, the drama did a poor job establishing the mysterious M and its mystery. The story was so soulless and shallow it made the 12 episodes runtime so damn dreadful. The whole trio couples were lackluster from all angles, both the actors and their characters. Dialogue was riddled with platitudes and awkward exchanges, making each interaction painful. Even the central mystery, which could have been the saving grace, was handled so clumsily that it failed to generate any suspense or intrigue. The mysterious M could've been an alien for all I care. The ML's sister was the only real sensible semi-functional piece of story in the entire thing. One more thing: from a production standpoint, it adopted the deplorable style of cutting everything short and prematurely; nothing plays in full.

jaehyun fan May 28 2023 9:54 am actually i was contemplating wheter i should watch this or not.. the main reason why i watch this because jaehyun.. but this drama really exceed my expectation.. i thought this just a mere love story between campus student.. but it really good.. i didnt know jaehyun could act this good.. wish jaehyun could be more drama.. and not forget the others... they do a very good job.. and the writer and staff... good job.. worth watching drama.. recommended.. last but not least... saranghaeyo jaehyun naa ?

KST Feb 01 2023 5:35 am I just finished watching this series yesterday. Wow I really overjoyed watching this series. The film was simple light drama but it was really nice. I saw many new faces here. This was my first time seeing Jaehyun. He is really amazing. I really love his character as Cha min ho. Cha min ho had a great chemistry with Ma joo ah. Almost all the actors did a great job here. I also must mention that the actress who play the negative character Choi ro sa did a great acting as the baddass girl who trying to capture others men.I really recommend this drama to all korean drama lovers who like to watch Romcoms.

Gogontle Setlhare Aug 10 2022 6:10 am The cast all did well. I felt a lot of different emotions from the beginning and throughout, thanks to how well they portrayed their characters. I felt my heart fluttering after the first episode ended and I knew then that the rest of the season was going to be a whole vibe. We are the only ones who can control onto which path of life we travel. As much as we make mistakes in our youth, it's important to recognise our wrongs and correct ourselves. It also doesn't hurt to have genuine people around while you are trying to navigate your life. Finding your tribe can be an amazing thing. These are some of the thoughts that the drama left me with.

I hope they continue their acting journeys and continue to fulfil their hearts' desires ♥️

(hwang boreumbyeol is so good at acting, i really wanna smack choi rosa)

i was also infuriated with moon joon ? besides being selfish (imo), he also led on ma joo-ah?

but lastly, i love the ending! omg the plot twist lmaoo

ahn Jul 20 2022 8:05 am just bingewatch the drama. i can say it's really good. although quite different from the love playlist story, they still have the same vibe. an exciting gathering, although not as ridiculous as in the series. the cast really did really well. Park Hye Soo as usual behaved like the youngest. Actually, I was quite surprised because Jaehyun felt like an actor who had played in couple of dramas. Roh Jeong-Eui and Bae Hyun-Sung's chemistry made me not realize that jimin cast had been replaced. Woo Davi, I think you always appear in the dramas I've watched. Lee Jinhyuk, you are indeed unique. "Dear. M" from who for whom, but makes everyone's hearts on the campus flutter

dramamarama Jul 11 2022 7:04 am I binged this drama throughout the weekend, at first it started off cringy to me but it got interesting along the way. The characters were amazing, Ro Sa had to be doing a really good job acting for me to hate her so much...I get so annoyed when she comes on screen. I watched this drama because of Hye Soo and ended up falling in love with the other cast members. Also, I didn't know Min Ho/Jaehyun before this but I get the hype, he's very handsome *^* I would really love to see him in more dramas. My fav couple in this entire drama was Bo Young and Mok Gin! They're super cute together!

I just hope Paek Hye Soo will portray other characters. I just feel that she is being typecast with this shy, soft spoken, cute girl. Hope to see more of her skills..

My fave were Bo Young and Mok Jin. Hope they had more screen time. Their characters/love team were the most lovable among all the casts. Hope to see them in new kdramas soon.

I like Roh Jeong Eui since 18 Again and she doesnt disappoint. I just find her getting slimmer everytime. Hope she's also in good health. Bae Hyung Sung is getting better in every drama he is in. Like I always say to my friends, he is Park Bo Gum's long lost twin. *grin*

I find it a bit short for 12 eps because I want to see more of them. But the ending was nice. So I guess, it is really the end. *wink*

The plot of the story is interesting and not boring with a happy ending for all. One that is very unfortunate is actress park hyesoo.. she's cute, pretty and her acting is very interesting she even has a good voice for a duet with jaehyun. It's a shame if the scandalous rumors are true she's a really talented person and i liked her so much:(

I was excited cause she's one of the leads, Hyesoo actually got accused and was cleared of charge why are they still not releasing it? this is pissing me off..if only Jeong-Eui refused to join the cast just like Saeron, she could've taken other drama scripts that are way better. Just replace the fm and air the show already! How can it they freaking air this show if there's a horrible bullying issue. There's no issue like that that will come out if she didn't do any sketchy stuff in her past or whatever. People never forget. They already lose faith in the actress. If they air this with that actress, they will just face haters. Just replace her. Simple as that. They were able to do it in River Where The Moon Rises, geez.

I know that people do not like to believe things, but if it is proven, then that is the truth. They are not going to replace her because they have already filmed the show, it would take a lot of money and time anyways and is completely unnecessary. Main lead means Park Hye Soo appears in many scenes so you would have to get all the actors to film again, extras, and production crew all have to come back. On top of that, editing is needed. They likely already expended much of the budget already as well.

brr Feb 28 2021 4:03 pm I was actually planning to watch this, but unfortunately it got cancelled, but thinking about it now, it will be hard to reshoot the whole drama with a new actress it will take till later in the year (if the girl is the main female lead). Such a waste, I'm curious about either they will just not release it or release it later.

After watching it I was kinda disturbed that Kim Sae Ron isn’t going to be in Dear M since she literally played Seo Jimin perfectly in my perspective. But, I’ll probably be able to make it through because after I saw the teaser for Dear M, I was sure that Rong Jeong Ui would play Seo Jimin since it looked like she was already adapted to the drama. I am also looking forward on seeing the 3 idols from different kpop groups to be acting in this drama since I had a pretty good first impression on acting in this drama. Not gonna lie here, I that “M” is probably a nickname that the writer would call them. I am looking forward to watch this drama, as long it doesn’t take a while to be translated- Dear M fighting!

I was already interested in this because of the mystery element and the fact that it was set in college (who else is sickkk and tired of high school settings?!) but with no confirmed air date I haven’t been paying attention. Anywho, the script reading video was so cute!! Why do I love the cast already? The chemistry is so obvious and fun and although there are a lot of new names everyone is bringing their acting chops. This might break the stereotype of youth dramas!!

I'm a huge Park Hyesu fan and I was skeptical about the casting but after seeing everyone working together, the energy is really good and even though the lead actor is a newbie, his acting seems really good from the clips and the chemistry between the cast is undeniable. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

The lead actress, Park Hyesu is solid, i've seen her previous work and as a love playlist fan, glad to see Park Haneul back and hope the chemistry with the new Jimin is just as good if not better than the original Jimin.

Sydney Dec 10 2020 4:04 am I am looking forward to seeing the chemistry between the cast, especially between Park Hye Soo and Jaehyun. The plot seems interesting too unlike the overly cliche youth kdramas i've seen, and I hope the script and acting lives up to the anticipation. It will be Jaehyun's first acting role, so I am curious to see how he will portray his character but as far everyone knows, he works hard to perfect any skill, so I am sure he will do well enough on acting too. Pairing him up with a good and promising actress like Hye Soo was a smart move by the casting director.

All her dramas and movies have in the last few years have been great, not corny and really encapsulate the true nature of youth the good and bad. So I have faith in her artistic sense and her choice to lead this drama! I know it’s going to be within the Love Playlist worldview so I’m excited! Great to see Bae Hyunseung reprise his role and also new arrivals like Jeong Jaehyun to the scene. Roh Jongeui was so captivating in 18 Again and her latest movie with Kim Hyesoo had me in tears. The plot doesn’t seem like a typical campus love story, I like that the main leads are best friends, the personalities seem bold and unique and the mystery element of who “M” is adds another layer to the show. Can’t wait for this to air!

DEAR M FIGHTING!!! Nov 25 2020 10:15 am im really exited and anticipated for this drama, i love park hyesoo her acting was great in swing kids and her recent movie samjin company english class was awesome. her character in this drama (ma jua) seems fits her very well bright, cute and innocent. i also love her voice. for jaehyun, well im put high expectation for his acting skill, as i know he is one of the most all arounder idol. he is good singer with his baritone vocal tone, he can rap, he dance very well his move sharp and short, he is mc in music show, he also lyricist in some nct songs. he is hardworker and passionate man of course he will give his best in everything he do, so i hope he can nails his role as cha minho in dear m. im really looking forward to see chemistry between ma jua and cha minho as they will act as bff for 12 years. for roh jeongeui shi-a i really really loveeee her i think everyone did. i hope she could build good chemistry with bae hyunsung. i hope dear m would bring enthusiasm and hyped by gp also get high rating in korea nation tv, wish all the best luck for this drama so everyone can shine. <3<3<3

if you dont want to watch the drama because of the cast is not what you expected then fine its your choice but please dont spread hate for the choosen cast member. the drama still not aired yet so we cant judge their acting capability yet. just because they are not your favorite doesnt mean we can understimated their skill and say bad word. <3

Kim Sae Ron, Fighting! Nov 24 2020 6:56 pm As much as I enjoy Park Hye Soo’s acting, it’s not enough to fill the gap of Kim Sae Ron’s absence. I was raised with Kim Sae Ron she grew on screen, as I did in life. I’m debating on boycotting KBS! It’s pretty obvious she was disrespected. One reason I enjoy kdramas is not having to deal with cast replacements or second seasons. Jimin is Sae Ron and Park Ha Neul can only be with Jimin played by Sae Ron. They had the chemistry. I didn’t appreciate it in Age of Youth. Park Hye Soo’s replacement was terribly dissatisfying. So I’m dropping this drama unless by some miracle Kim Sae Ron is able to reprise her role. The drama wasn’t that great anyway, the writing and acting by every other cast member is very amateurish. I only watched Season 4 for Kim Sae Ron’s performance. Otherwise I’ll wait to support her in her next role.

waiting for dear m Nov 13 2020 5:33 am im really excited for this drama!! like im waiting for any updates from this drama. from what i've seen on the fantaken filming video (it passed my tl but this is actually not allowed, if you saw any pls dont spread them) they seem to have great chemistry!! jaehyun always wants to try acting since debut (from one of nct debut show with heechul as mc) and i really wish him for the best. park hyesoo is a great actress!! i love her, she's a babie istg. also can we get jaehyun and park hyesoo ost pls, i loooove their voices. i hope Dear M will be good and doing well with rating and stuffs !! <33

It's nice to see them expand the Love Playlist universe (knowing that A-Teen is also in the same universe). Park Hye Soo is such a talented actress who's hot off the heels of her latest movie and I don't know much about Jaehyun but I know he's one of the most well-rounded entertainers in recent years and have seen him host radio and many shows. I wish this cast all the best. For those who are upset Kim Saeron dropped out... that's her choice. This show will centre around Cha Minho (Dear M -- Obviously!) and Ma Jua, with the original LP couple but it's not their show. Get it through your heads before you watch this! As for Kim Saeron dropping out, well that was her choice and we should respect that. She left very las- minute as I was looking forward to her reprising her role also... but leaving when everyone has been casted, and the script already done is not the most ideal either. Everyone is just making the best of the situation so I also want to wish Roh Jeongeui the best of luck as she was great in 18 Again and deserves to shine here too.

i dont know why people angry Nov 01 2020 10:34 am Why all those comment here not understand that this is not a sequel of the love playlist but only a side story/spin off from the universe of the love playlist because the set is same, and Playlist always make spin off, like 'Why I hate Xmas" etc . It makes sense that Sseoji and Park Sky characters are only a side couple because this is only a Spin Off . maybe sseoji and parky sky will be lead in season 5 love playlist and not here. Besides, it's clear from the drama's title 'Dear M' M refers to Minho, the new character. Why are people here angry. This is not Love Playlist Season 5

nancy Oct 22 2020 11:14 am As a fan of love playlist, especially a huge fan of sseoji-park sky from the season 4, I was too excited when they announced they're going to make a spin off for my fav couple of this webdrama. Turns out... it's all the clout to get people hype only for the actual main couple not to be the ones we had expected. Like, seriously, I know the "main guy" is currently on the rise, not trying to blame him or anything. it's just, why the production team not make this into a stand alone drama from the beginning? The lead boy's popularity alone can help the promotion. If the actual characters from love playlist only act as supportings then what's the point of making this drama into love playlist universe? I won't be surprised, & totally understandable, if KSR dropped this drama because the production team changed the story from having sseoji-haneul as a main couple to only a side couple; or worse they use KSR name just to get general audience hype. Truly disappointed, & to be frank I lowkey hope Bae Hyun Sung will drop this drama as well, for his acting skill alone he deserves more than to be a side character to a new actor with an unknown skill.

But I had been following Love Playlist since theit first season and have been rooting for Sseoji and Park Sky. They have great chemistry too in LP. It would be a bit weird for me to watch another actress acts as Sseoji instead of Kim Saeron. But let’s see if I will still enjoy this drama.

The reason why I root for this drama is because of her and Bae Hyun Sung's characters (Park Sky & SeoJi) since I've watched Love Playlist before, too bad I won't be seeing them together & the crumbs that I'll be getting. I hope Kim Sae Ron is okay, she suppose to be the main lead for School 2020 but that drama got cancelled because of casting controversy & now she dropped Dear M which are both from KBS. So I wonder what's with her & KBS...Sae Ron posted the cast confirmation for Dear M on her ig story when the news came out, which means she's excited for it so it's a bit upsetting that it didn't go well for her. There's news circulating that they already cast an actress for her replacement(kbs was fast lol) but I wish that they create a new character for the new actress instead of casting for Seo Ji Min, I knew this is a spin-off but everyone knew Kim Sae Ron is Seo Ji Min so it'll be awkward to see Seo Ji Min isn't Kim Sae Ron. The series are absolutely very good and recommended, especially for you who like college love story. This is one of my favourite web drama. Been waiting for season 5 because want to see Park Sky and Sseoji more scenes, but now, there will be a spinoff for this drama with NCT Jaehyun as the lead male?? This is really makes me excited!!

I just can't wait to see the Park Sky-Sseoji relationship and the new story between Jaehyun & Hyesoo!!

But when I saw the new characters in season 3 I started to rewatch it from season 1, especially when I saw the news that Saeron joined this webdrama for season 4,,, I became looking forward to it more, at last when it came out, I fell in love with it. And the spin off of the love playlist will air on KBS?! With NCT Jaehyun and CLC Eunbin ?! I'm getting impatient!
