Set in the year 1258, when Goryeo was involved in a 30 year war against the Mongol Empire. Baek-Gyeol (Ahn Bo-Hyun), with passion and purity, is a young commander in the Gyeonryong Army, which is the royal guard. He falls in love with Princess Kyeonghwa, Wang-Hee (Soo-Hyun), who is the emperor's youngest daughter. She closes her mind to the world due to a political marriage. She secludes herself in her palace and spends her days meaninglessly, when she falls in love with Baek-Gyeol. But, her love for him, gets him appointed as the special commander of a convoy. The convoy's mission is to find a holy relic that holds miraculous powers.
Choi-Koo (Lee Sung-Min) is a veteran warrior who has experienced numerous fierce battlefields. One day, he is selected to take part in the convoy that is led by Baek-Gyeol. Meanwhile, Geol-Seung (Ha Yoon-Kyung) runs a small restaurant on the street in Ganghwado. Due to Baek-Gyeol's demand, she joins the convoy as a guide.
