Na-Yeon (Lee Yu-Ri) is a bright woman. She supports her boyfriend Tae-Joon (Seo Jun-Young), who is from a poor background. Even though they have a daughter, Tae-Joon dumps her for his own success and goes with Se-Jin (Park Ha-Na). Se-Jin is the granddaughter of the President of Baekdoo Company.

Do-Hee (Lee Yu-Ri) is Na-Yeon’s twin sister. They have been separated since Do-Hee was adopted by a wealthy couple when she was an infant. Do-Hee now works as a reporter for a weekly magazine. For a story, Do-Hee investigates into the background of Tae-Joon. She discovers that she has a twin sister and Na-Yeon was dumped by Tae-Joon. Do-Hee also learns that Tae-Joon's mother got Na-Yeon hospitalized at a psychiatric hospital. Do-Hee visits Na-Yeon at the hospital, but a fire engulfs the hospital and Do-Hee dies. Na-Yeon then takes the identity of her twin sister.

Pleased Jun 15 2024 12:22 pm This drama is really good. But it’s soooooo slow. The development is so slow. Had to watch it at 2x to get through it. Otherwise the main plot was really good and made me physically gasp many times.

Park Min Mar 21 2024 12:30 pm I still haven't found a real answer to why most daily dramas convert their setting into a cyclical run inside a corporation despite their initial premise. Possible theory, it's easier to write while rehashing from its predecessors and to re-use the same materials and assets while building a set. Out of all the possible ridiculous tropes to ensue insanity, the psychiatric hospital trope is the only one I will never tolerate. It's the cheapest and lowliest insult to the medium and to any viewer. Therefore, this drama gets the stamp of shame for incorporating that once and attempting to do it another time later. The final resolution for these characters ended up being disappointing, they forced it to remain relatively soft and tame. Which took away from all of the angst and revenge. Park Ha Na picked up this project after her previous one Apgujeong Midnight Sun (2014) which was pretty good even for her first main role, in comparison, this drama was a significant downgrade.

amargatarde Oct 05 2023 8:08 pm Just finished this. okay revenge drama. Side characters were extremely obnoxious... Malja and her two daughters, their male friends and Man-jong and her guy. At least Eunbong contributed to the plot but I 100% skipped any scene with Geumbong in it. These may be the most annoying characters in a daily drama period.

If I didn't fast forward through their scenes, I would've quit this drama a while ago...

Towards the end it felt like things were being dragged out (a lot of "will she or won't she" but if you ask me, Lee Yuri as Nayeon definitely brought the emotional intensity needed for someone seeking revenge.

Side note, the wedding dress Nayeon/Dohee wore in her wedding with Huikyung is probably my favorite kdrama wedding dress. Lee Yuri looked GOOD here!!

Now onto golden mask...

Chose this drama after watching Lee Yui-Ri in Father is strange (loved her in it) and she was even better in this drama! Without spoiling it for anyone this is a drama that may seem frustrating at the start but once you get into it I promise you wont regret it. Its a 102ep drama so things wont be revealed quickly so we just need to be patient with it. There is annoying characters but it just makes the drama even better when revenge is served. Its a big thumbs up from me...warning though there is tears to be shedded whilst watching! Highly recommended for kdrama lovers who like long family dramas!

turnipp Dec 20 2020 10:54 pm probably one of my favourite long dramas i've watched. they developed the characters very well, to the point when it gets painful to watch at the start, but after episode 50 something (i think), they start plotting the revenge and it becomes satisfying and enjoyable. the actors in the drama acted really well!!

Charmie Jun 22 2020 10:02 pm It is very cliche story and starts really slow! But the revenge plot is totally worth it! Lee Yuri is truly one of the best actors out there! Her portrayal of 3 characters (I know there are only 2), the other one is her revenge version (Lol!) is too good to quit watching! You can totally tell the differences of the twin and the how it blends to become a third character.

I wish they introduced Baek Dohui early on the show, she is too awesome and sassy to come in late. They should've shown more interaction between Nayeon and Dohui!

Nayeon is just too painful too watch early on the episodes that I wanted to slap her. Haha! The men in this drama are spineless and the evil mother is so evil but she's entertaining. Haha!

Ms. Yoon, Baek Family, Ms. Yang and her kids are the best support here!

For lack of action at the right time of the so-called victims, plus the fatality, these were the reasons why the heroine commences the acts of revenge. In this drama was only one real motive for punish. When the little girl was left alone at home without supervision. All the rest was fake.

I really wish DH is still alive and takes identity as NY the do the revenge on behalf her sister. That must be more interesting.

Bring more producer/writer!! I'm anxiously looking for your other jakpoom! =))) TWO THUMBS UP. Sister recommended and stuck to this out of 5 others she was watching.

Jaybee Nov 11 2016 7:12 am Just one more observation. Three out of the 5 older mothers (2st one really you can not count because she disappears early on to start the cycle of revenge) are horrible. They are all three selfish and heartless. Why is that? Is it just the writers or a deeper implication of how Korea society views older Korean matriarchs? This definitely keeps things interesting in spite of the dragging pace. Waiting for the inevitable day(s) of reckoning keeps the juices flowing. These Korean women are perhaps the most despicable I can think of from any tv show or film of other nations and cultures.

Jaybee Nov 05 2016 8:15 pm Way too long. This s Drama should have been half as long. The evil bitter Mom was pretty ridiculous. Over the top. Seems the nasty older wife is a common thread in Korean Dramas. Not sure why this seems to be so appealing. All middle age Korean women I know or have met are really sweet ladies so what gives ??? Still with all the flaws and the cliche story line I enjoyed the acting. It is a C story with an A cast.

Michi Sep 29 2016 11:17 pm The drama had potential with an overall good and interesting storyline that exposes human cruelty but the drama was ruined with it's dragging plot-made me paranoid and mad,almost wanted to stop watching the drama but because I was about 70 episodes in,I decided to go on.

Though I enjoyed Lee-Yu-Ri's and Kim Hye Ri's performance and the first few episodes,towards the middle of the drama-it started to transform to the typical cliche story that we are all familiar with.

The pacing of the drama was horrible-it was dragging started from the middle and everything was revealed at once in the last episode (Or one before the last episode).

Even though everything was revealed in the last episode the ending was so anti climatic that it just ruined the whole drama for me.It made me mad because I just wasted 51+ hours of my time on this drama.

3/10

I wouldn't recommend it nor would I watch it again.

Purple Aug 24 2016 4:16 pm I love this drama a lot, i love Lee Yu Ri, she is so good acting and also all the other casts were doing their part very well, starting from around episode 50 Lee Nayeon started her revenge , omg it was the best ever specially from ep 90. The best revenge ever, and a happy ending is just everything... i will givw this drama 10/10 . I love love it

Hal Jul 06 2016 7:10 am Using the missing earring as evidence is rather silly . I kept on questioning why didn't the 'madam murderer' throw it away and instead kept it until the end to be discovered by her husband. Except for this disturbing plot, overall I enjoyed the drama.

Happy to watch HK and NY together in the end but the story could have been better if it didn't end too abruptly. They were probably rushing to end the story by squeezing in everything into one last episode to give viewers the "feel good" effect.

Song Jong-Ho and Lee Yu-Ri make such a perfect on-screen couple.

irma Jun 25 2016 12:18 pm Utter crap ending! I like that NY and HK got their happy ending, but Sejin's amnesia is just unbelievable. In this day and age, what, she cannot Google her name and read all the press reports about her mother's trial and Lee Ki Man? That she was/is married to TJ? For 5 months, she believes her mum went to study in the States and no contact? She's business development director and the whole of Baekdo keeps mum about what happen?

K-Drama world must exist in the Stone Age!

The bit where she bumps into TJ and immediately checks him out? If I were TJ, I'd run away screaming because amnesia or not,  her obsession with him just resurfaced! It wasn't cutesy, but downright creepy.

My favourite was dear old grandma with her Alzheimer's and gargantuan appetite. I always looked forward to her simply blurting out skeletons in the closet at the most in appropriate times. Hilarious!

SJ in the end was cute after losing her memory like NY was sad but TJ change for better. NY and husband finally got a chance to declare their love for each other. Love the drama inspite of the greed and violence.

JAC Jun 24 2016 5:14 am It was over the top evil, violent, and unnecessary focus on the greed of one dangerous sick psycho mother and daughter. The two of them were not good entertainer, but screaming nuts who controlled their men through money and status of power. Balancing evil was not a priority in this drama;therefore, the lead actress played two roles to balance the fighting of faith to clean the mess they made in life.

Sad but rotten women to the core, better women actresses in 'Five Enough.' Better men actors in 'Five Enough.'

At Ep. 99, this drama should be ending soon. Yet, there is still no sign of happiness and still no sign of repentance.

If Hwi Kyung still has a heart for Na Yeon, I'd rather he remain single till old. Coz it would be too scary and painful to be with a woman who is miserable, merciless and cold.

Abuse, power, and death or morals had little to do with the hurt and pain these people inflicted on one another. Pointless obsession to control others and need to be loved at any price.

Right now it does not matter if they come together he does not understand why his family is messed up. In my opinion I am healed from the overall story of rich people greedy and controlling ways in the Promise.

JAC Jun 19 2016 5:37 am The actor who plays the wealthy Lee Ki Man change the drama into a game changer because he treats the witch like she should be treated. He puts her in a place where he controls her. Unlike SinJin's fake dad and TJ can't deal with the witch and daughter. He should get an award for his great performance to keep the promise.

JAC Jun 17 2016 2:37 pm Sorry, I disagree about the witch/crazy mum she displayed in the drama. She looked down on others, screamed, and used little balance in being wealthy/mother to SinJin. I think the corporate mother in Sweet Home, Sweet Honey played a better high class lady than the witch. NY/BDH and Kim Do-Yeon played better women in the drama "The Promise."

I believe there is only 6 episodes left,could all these secret be revealed ASAP,however i don't prefer a rushing ending

Thanks to all the casts who played every character so well. The villains are so bad and they just ought to be thrown to hell.

My favourite character is the sweet, gentle, patient and loving Hwi-Kyung And I prefer the bubbly, cheerful and fearless Do-Hee to the miserable Na-Yeon

This movie really deserves an award Here … I give you my applause and my support !

Just wanted to rant off my opinion, AH!!!!! on ep 92 i finally thought the story is going somewhere, I really like Na Yeon's character as Do Hee, and I just really really hate Kang Tae Joon and her real father Jang Kyung Wan, but after ep 93 I kinda got irritated like OMFG when is Se Jin going to pay, her hurting herself is getting overrated and annoying and I feel like Nayeon is just stalling. Everything could've have just ended faster if she drops the bomb and tells the truth so everything is out, honestly I'm just irritated cause I'm not seeing anymore action/revenge from Na Yeon. Its very satisfying seeing when the bad guy's plans get thwarted or ruined. But I hate how Na Yeon is even talking with Tae Joon, after what he loudmouthed she should've slapped him or something not just yell at him. ARGH* Its weird how everyone is finding out about the truth on Na Yeon so fast. But overall I really really really love this drama, I've come to love Hui Kyung's character and I'm totally in love with Na Yeon's character as Do Hee especially whenever she makes her revenge. Can't wait for the next episode :)

Jac Jun 13 2016 6:28 pm Just finished 93 English sub, SinJin & mum plus TJ and family need to be punished. Crazy mum is outright monster saying she is going to kill SinJin's real father. She has no love for her brother. SinJin fell down the stairs on purpose or drunk whatever. NY and her husband are welcome to live in the States.

"Heaven's Promise", as the title says, should have a happy ending, otherwise, it shouldn't be called "Heaven's Promise".

They both equally killed her and her daughter and at that time The "good man" KW didn't do anything. Just shows how equally evil he is. But now all of a sudden NY adoptive mother also thinks he's a good man! SO PREDICTABLE! If anyone's having second thoughts on watching this, please don't waste your time. This drama also states it is a romance, but I'm still waiting for a romance plot to begin.....

In the real world, no decent, thinking woman would ever allow a man who had broken deliberately her mind, body and spirit to touch even a square millimeter of her skin! If Taejoon is in pain physically, Nayeon should never make lame excuses to be beside him; she could easily ask for househelp assistance if she is in the house or if TJ is outside the house, and Nayeon happens to be around, Nayeon should call/text Sejin. The operative word in this situation calls for decency. The dismal characterization of Nayeon, whether deliberate or unintentional is many times degraded by the script. Please make her character typify a young woman who knows her true worth; a woman who is intelligent, has grit, resilience and not easy.

Her marriage should be consummated to bear a child. The marriage should be registered. Why dilly-dally with the registration? Does the storyline aspire to end with Nayeon & TJ in each other's arms? Nayeon is in love with love, not necessarily with TJ. The love of Nayeon's husband is pure and unselfish, unlike TJ's which is so unauthentic and selfish. TJ believes that destiny provided him with a gift to be always on the receiving end. He is a quintessential user and parasite like her Mom, dressed in a man's clothes. The true villains in this drama are TJ and her Mom & Sejin and her Mom.

Hope Nayeon and Hyun ki would have children; that would be divine revenge. Touché to TJ. The downfall of the Baek do Construction would only be a side dish, if ever. Moreover, the script should be steeped with substance so as not to fall into the ravine of mediocrity which is so common among Korean dramas.

The parents of TJ as comic relief is so boring. Pity them, they seem to be trying to be good actors. Clearly, the script needs reevaluation. One last thing: the jewelries worn by Nayeon and Sejin would send the children/heirs of real life chaebols ( if they happen to be watching) screaming cheap! distasteful! Likewise, their bedrooms need improvement.

I only encountered her in running man once and i think she is really pretty, funny and charming. I watched the episodes and I understand that in order to fill the whole 100 episodes, they put parts that didn't really need to be there. 3 things that impressed me. 1. Lee yuri is such an amazing actress.. She really created 2 characters +1..Baek Do Hee and Lee Nayeon is really different from each other(I could really sense that they had their own personality)..2. When Nayeon(spoiler), pretends to be Baek Do hee, her speech still remains the same as Nayeon. Nayeon is just filled with rage and also needed to pretend as baek do hee but she doesn't fully get the persona of baek do hee 3. And it leads to park hwi-kyung, feeling awkward at Dohee(Nayeon pretending)... lastly, I really just realized how great lee yu ri is and I fell in love with her charm. This drama reminds me of Mask and Birth of A beauty and Greatest Marriage mixed together..

Se Jin's evil mother is already checking on DH's background. Why hasn't NY started to check why her real mother didn't tell her about DH and why is DH living with the Baeks. Ep. 54 will see DH's mother realizing DH is not actually DH.

So far, the writer is amazing and he or she is keeping us in suspense as to how the rest of the 47 episodes will turn out. No doubt, the revival of AP Foods won't be smooth sailing as Tae Joon has been placed in AP Foods to stop Hwi Kyung & DH. Guess we will be seeing a lot of sabotages from Monday onwards.

Dear writer, please make HK & DH smarter than the 4 evil relatives.

dani Apr 09 2016 5:36 am This is the only k-drama that is worth watching for the 1st quarter of 2016. It keeps one on the feet and hunger for the next episode.

Yoo Kyung killed 3 generations of the Lee Family - NY's mum, NY(no doubt we know it is DH) and Saebyul plus her own father. Hwi Kyung is no match for YK. He is too weak. He needs DH if he wants to take over Baekdo. Next episode sees DH's mum suspecting DH as she's not taking her medication. DH's mum is living in fear for 30 odd years for stealing the baby from NY's mum at the hospital when her own baby died. I hope DH's mum don't find out that DH is actually NY so early in the episode when she is just about to start her revenge.

The most ignorant character in this drama is Kyung Wan. He is living with the woman who killed his ex-gf (NY's mum), daughter (real DH)and grand-daughter. Se Jin is the daughter of Yoo Kyung with another man. I am sure this "man" will appear later to give Yoo Kyung a hard time and this will be the time DH finds out the truth behind her mother's death.

I wonder how the writer will finish off this story. What will happen to Hwi Kyung and DH when he finds out that DH is actually NY? Hopefully it will not be like all k-dramas whereby the last episode is a rush job which really killed the enthusiasm & passion we had watching all the 50 to 100 episodes.

@Dani- Before Do Her went to Na Yeon she got a hairstyle change to make it look like NaYeons and her mom saw her with that haircut before DoHee left so that's why they didn't make of the difference.

I can't wait to see the revenge take place, I'm so glad that NaYeon already got her memory back and she can start with the revenge as soon as possible. I just can't wait I'll she realizes who HuiKwang is to the Jang family.

More than TaeJoon who seems like a pitiful idiot, I want SeJin and her witch mother to suffer. Her father is an idiot and I can not wait till he realizes he married a lady who used a random child unrelated to both of them to them marry him. I wonder if they're will be a twist with SeJins real parents.

Also this may seem especially cruel but I'm glad SeJin didn't get to keep her baby, if this were real life the baby would be so lucky to not be born into that hell hole household.

dani Apr 05 2016 9:07 am Lee Yu Ri is the expert in this kind of drama. The story is good so far. Hope the writer don't mess up in the later episodes. I presume it could be like another 50 to 70 more episodes for DoHee (NaYeon) to get back her memory and start her revenge. The writer had to kill SeoByul to give DoHee(Nayeon) a clean start & reason for revenge. If SeoByul is alive, it would be hard for NY to ignore her and live as DH. It is only right for the real DH to die in the fire as she is going to die anyway because of the tumor in her heart. I am surprise why they don't realize that DH & NY have different hair cut. NY has bangs/fringe and DH doesn't. Also, I am surprise why the parents didn't ask the doctor about DH's heart condition after the inhalation of the smoke. Heart patients would be dead in this kind of situation.The fire accident is to cover up the change DH's parents will see in NY. The brain damage will be the cover up for NY when she becomes DH. I hope the writer will keep 80% of the lively and gutsy character of DH in NY.

also the way DH tried to protect NY ..what an amazing character DH..but died. hope NY doesn't play dumb again . that will be a disgrace to DH who sacrificed. Hope NY remember se-jin mother putting her in hospital room. i can't wait to see how NT and hwi-kyung love story taking place.

Do Her switched her identity with Na Yeon in the hospital because she wanted to find out more why Na Yeon was trapped there.when the fire happened NY pretending to be DH comes to save her they both get stuck, but because the real DH already had heart conditions she didn't make it. NY now is taking DHs identity and will probably wake up and say she doesn't remember what happened in the past due to her accident in the fire and she will take on her own revenge living as DH.

Do-Hee's mom is giving more hints that D-Hee is the one who is going to die. she took a promise from Do-Hee that she will quit reporter job. well this makes Na-Yeon's job easier. She will take Do-Hee's place and join Hwi-Kyung's company. Do-Hee dad already a friend of Hwi-Kyung's mother and he has a good influence so he will let Na-Yeon join the company.

Also, Na-Yeon has that one ear ring of se-jin's mother. this also indicates Na-Yeon is the one who is gonna take revenge.

Do-Hee herself make Na-Yeon take her place and stay with her mom.It will be very interesting to watch how Na-Yeon is going to work and Tae-Joon's face would be worth watching while Na-Yeon getting close to Hwi-Kyung.

I definitely don't want to see se-jin to be forgiven in the end like all the korean dramas. damn..se-jin shouldn't have a baby. she should suffer like how did that to Na-Yeon

I agree with u. There might a chance that Se-Byul vl die. But it will be heart breaking to watch Se-byul dying. Like they mentioned in synopsis Na-Yeon will loose everything. I am afraid that she is going to loose Se-Byul. But I totally loved Do-Hee how quich she was in finding Na-Yeon's where abouts. Where as her family is still in their dream land that Na-Yeon went to pray. It's ridiculous for them to even think that Na-Yeon would stay away from Se-Byul in that condition. What a dumb famliy. Though they all love Na-Yeon,but i cant stop cursing them for their dumbness. And her reporter sister..lol. What on earth made her a reporter. No brain. But atleast she asked Do-Hee's help. Thats the only good thing she did so far. I hope Do-Hee meet Na-Yeon. After seeing yesterday's episode its likely that Do-Hee is not going to return after meeting Na-Yeon. Not to forget how her mother was scared as if she is going to loose Do-Hee and Hwi-Kyung also looked at her as if it was their last meeting. Poor Do-Hee.

If Na Yen does take Do Here's identity then unfortunately I think producers will kill off Se Byul. But hopefully fingers crossed not!

This drama is soo interesting! I'm always looking forward to each new episode.

Though I don't want any of the sisters to die, but its unfortunate one has to die to let the story go forward. initially i thought heart transplantation will happen and Do-Hee will survive with Na-Yeon's heart. Now Na-Yeon survived , looks like Do-Hee who is going to die. it will be interesting to see if that happens and Na-Yeon will fall for Hwi-Kyung. but if Na-Yeon takes up Do-Hee's identity its hard for her to stay away from Se-Byul. Also the poster indicates Do-Hee looking at mirror and it's Na-Yeon's image in mirror. which made me believe Do-Hee is going to die. uff.. the story is twistted. hope they will take their revenge on evil se-jin family

The heart transplant plot will just make it more complicated and I really don't want another heart transplant plot after watching Falling For Innocence. It just screws up the other persons personality. And if it turns into a heart transplant drama, the whole idea for showing us how Hwi Kyung met Na Yeon and him still having the watch, seems pointless. And then that will create a huge plot hole in the drama. What I hate more than amnesia in any drama is a unfinished plot with unexplainable plot holes!

I think the plot written here is wrong and that Do Hee, as she has heart problems, may pass away and Na Yeon will take on Do Hee's identity instead. Of course I may be wrong but the way the plot is summarized and the way the story is progressing is very confusing.

It is playing along the lines of the drama 'Mask' and I was very excited because I was desperately searching for a drama like Mask for a long time. But now it's just getting repetitive. We know that Na Yeon is the victim, so lets get along with the plot and show me the revenge and maybe some romance because I'm really getting tired of all the crying and hateful people in this. Mask was so fast paced and exciting, maybe because it was a 20 episode long drama; but this is just a dragged plot compared to Mask. I'm enjoying it, but now the sisters have to meet already, one of them have to die already, and the revenge needs to start already!!!

Also I know this will seem really bad, but I think the daughter, Sae Byul needs to die with one of the twins. Because the story plot will just get complicated if she's alive and the mother is pretending to be Do Hee or if Na Yeon dies. Show me some action and maybe some romance because I'm out if this does not pick up it's pace by episode 40. I've watched till 36 and I think my patience is running out.

BTW gotta comment that Lee Eun-Bong and Lee Joong-Dae couple are so cute!!! I totally ship them <3

They could've at least changed the lead. Im not a big fan of lee yu-ri but I do like song jong ho. Anyways I hope everything goes well especially for song jong ho oppa!
