Veteran detective Kim Taek-Rok (Lee Sung-Min) quietly returns to the Geumo Police Station and accepts his transfer to the Women and Juvenile Affairs at the Geumo Police Station. He tries to keep his head down and not attract attention. Nevertheless, Yeon Ju-Hyun (Kim Shin-Rok), who leads the department, carefully watches over Kim Taek-Rok.

Meanwhile, Assemblyman Lee Young-Ho's (Joo Jin-Mo) runs for re-election and his grip on power in Geumo seems certain. He identifies Choi Do-Hyung (Jung Jin-Young) as an opponent, who runs the Youngseo Welfare Foundation and has the support of an opposing candidate. A string of burglary cases takes place.

Kim Taek-Rok begins his final counterattack to uncover and take out his nemesis "Friend."

Park Min Jul 16 2024 9:56 pm The drama shouldn't have been split up into 2 seasons since it was a one big continuous story. This split created a few more problems along the way. Some of the baddies cast members had a clearer split between both seasons, focusing on a few of them each season despite having one grand story. This created some coherency problems and made it feel disjointed. Personal stories, relationships and side characters had an unequal amount of focus between both seasons. A case in point, the ML's daughter/family had only some focus in season 1 while being completely absent from season 2 (aside from 1 flashback) which took away from the ML's character and drive. Especially when his entire character was built on the ghosts haunting him from his past. The focus shift was exactly the opposite with Lee Sung Ah between both seasons. Anyway, enough about jumping between seasons. The cast members brought a good performance especially our lleading shadow detective. I really appreciate the production not turning on the beauty mode on for Sung Ah & Joo Hyeon. You can see the pressure and exhaustion their carrier put on them over the years. The cinematography was good for the most parts, especially with scenes involving the detective alone, but there were some dodgy shots here and there. The story was well written with a decent pace to match the suspense. The thriller and intrigue were blended nicely with some nice action scenes. However, the last stretch of the story got a bit weak and disorganized after building up the story for a grand finale. Also, some overdramatized deliveries ended up backfiring, making important scenes less impactful. The introduction of the last episode was good, as well as that dream sequence. His speech about him wanting to stop running while reciting his past was the most memorable moment in the drama. If that wasn't enough, the very last scene was the cherry on top to tie it all up.

King Pup 1722 Aug 09 2023 7:38 am I can honestly say that this is the best TV series I’ve seen in 2023 so far!

I actually rewatched season 1 before watching season 2, and got a much better understanding of the dynamics happening amongst the main leads - when I first watched it, I was speeding through and I missed out on certain subtleties in the storyline.

Definitely one reason why I’m giving the thumbs up is the excellent veteran actor Lee Sung-Min, he truly excels in playing the tortured role of the detective that’s close to retirement and yet he’s unable to stop himself from going after the corrupt politicians, police and prosecutors. Which thankfully concludes in a happy ending that sees all the bad guys getting their just rewards, and Sung-Min seeing out his remaining time in the police force in a small Korean seaside town.

The storyline execution owes much to the experienced performances of Jung Jin-Young and Joo-Min Ho. Though they’re not top line main actors, they exuded “presence” every time they were in scenes, with their measured and forceful body language and facial expressions!

All in all, it’s an enjoyable watch. The 12 episodes spread across two seasons is long enough for the storyline to develop in detail, but avoids being too draggy. Even the so called “quiet” moments were quiet for a reason, and wasn’t inserted merely to take up time.

If you haven’t watched it, go for it, you won’t be sorry!!

Kdrama Aug 06 2023 1:36 am Why Detective kim taerok still not retired yet. After all he gone through. He should be rewarded. If all policemen behave like him, there wont be crime in this world. Why everyone around him is corrupt tho.Everytime he left, the people he leave behind become corrupted. Really recommend to watch, u feel sad for Detective Kim Taerok and question why he go that far but he took his job with sense pride and humbleness. The 1st season, i support his decision to fake the evidence to taint the knife with the culprit blood because if he didnt more victim will die eventho the lady daughter was not found then but the daughter died already.
