Jo Hun-Hyun (Lee Byung-Hun) and Lee Chang-Ho (Yoo Ah-In) are baduk players. Their relationship began as teacher and pupil and they have become rivals in the game of baduk.

Filming began December, 2020 and finished April, 2021.
Movie is based on the real story of legendary go (baduk) players Jo Hun-Hyun and Lee Chang-Ho.

I don't understand the game Go, but I didn't get bored at all watching this, the tension between the 2 leads is insane.

Lee Byung Hun, no words, a veteran actor indeed and my boy,

Yoo Ah In, knetz can hate him all they want but you can't deny his acting skills, he should be in more movies and series. I hope he can come back soon.

@Lana, I 100% agree with you. He is one of a kind. He pulls you in with his acting.

At such a young age, he has achieved remarkable success, winning numerous prestigious awards as a lead actor—far surpassing many other Korean stars like Lee Min Ho, Park Seo Joon, or Ji Chang Wook.

He deserves to be appreciated, celebrated, and given the recognition he truly merits. His past mistakes should not overshadow his brilliance. I am genuinely proud of his journey and achievements. He is gem.

Un modeste admirateur May 09 2025 10:13 am As a teenager, I regret spending a fair amount of my free time consuming chess content, whether it would be watching the FIDE championships, or reading a few books by grand masters that I bought second-hand. Contrary to my father, however, I never played the game as much as I studied it, because I quickly realized it had dangerous consequences for the player's psyche, some of which are perfectly portrayed in « The Match ». For example, the hurt ego. My mother reminded me recently that, when I won a casual game against my father, he turned me the cold shoulder over the next three days. I had buried this episode in my memory. In the movie, it is similar to the reaction of Cho Hunhyun when his student, Lee Chang-ho, won against him. There is an even stronger realization that ultimately made me abandon chess, but that is absent from the « The Match » : It’s that, when you reach a certain level, there is no further meaning or lesson to be found in the game. « The Match » repeats twice a quote by Segoe Kensaku, Cho Hunhyun's master : « Go means finding an answer where there is none ». Ironically, this quote is used as some kind of inspiration to look for hidden answers, whereas I am firmly convinced that « there are none ». But hey ! this movie is philosophical enough and accomplished enough to let you make your own opinion on the matter.

May 08 2025 2:26 am I just saw the Match . it’s only possible to watch this very simple storyline in a movie with these two outstanding actors as leads , Lee Byung Hun and Yoo Ah in , each portraying their characters in an interesting way that plot twists, or even action was irrelevant. Love it, since , these two are A- list talented actors, versatility masters in their crafts . Bravo bravo bravo ,Lee Byung Hun and Yoo Ah In , unique supporting cast, writers in a storyline timed beautifully in the 1990s and an accomplished director . Yoo Ah In is in his 30s but really looked and acted as a teenager. I had to double check as to when this movie was done .

I just watched the trailer, and it was in the Korean Language, I don't speak or read Korean. Lee Byung Hun is the best there is and i know this will be a success
