Park Min Sep 14 2023 11:42 am Too much shouting and weeping that constantly yank you out of the drama. For the first 20 episodes the drama was somewhat fine but after episode 21 it became utterly unwatchable rancid fuming hot garbage. They blew up all of their budget on the first 20 episodes that the rest left them roaming inside the mansion with bullshit plot for the remainder. The story lacked a more concise direction and the transitions in the story were always jarring and ungraceful.

Wood Jul 19 2022 3:48 pm I thought I'll never ever see these classic historical dramas come back again along with those legendary and veteran actors from decades ago. Finally and after many years here we have a very decent show. I agree with Trish 100%, I can't stand the "pretty flower boy" dramas either and they're not historical by any means.

If you are a fan of the good old classical historical dramas such as Jumong and others, this one here is a top notch! The only reason it's got a mediocre rating is because of the audience on this site who are not into this genre to begin with.

AJ May 02 2022 1:06 am I have to admit, at the onset, the main reason I watched The King of Tears was because of the beautiful Park Jin-Hee -- moreover, after watching her promoting the drama during presentation of the Daesang in 2021 KBS Entertainment Awards (along with the CEO of KBS)

Well it turned out to be a wonderful viewing experience. Congratulations, KBS -- you managed to convert me, a mere casual international viewer, into one interested in Korean history around that era. So you could say this sageuk is a success.

As a footnote, I think it's a good move by KBS1 to make each episode lasting no more than 50-55 minutes. It's more suitable to present-day viewers, especially those who are only starting to dwelve into historical dramas.

Rasyid May 01 2022 9:37 am Really sad that this drama ended tonight. I've been watching this drama since ep 1. Full of emotions flowing in the few last episodes. Great performance by new actors Kim Min Gi and Exceptional acting by Park Jin Hee and Joo Sang Wook. They deserved an award seriously. Thank you to all the cast and crew for producing this Daeha drama that has been missing for five years. I hope KBS will continue the tradition of producing authentic historical dramas every year!!!!

I’ve watched Six Flying dragons, Tree with Deep Roots, Jang Young Sil, The Great King Sejong, and now this. All of these are good in their own ways. SFD is action from start to end. I don’t think I ever got bored from any episode. TWDR focused more on Sejong’s invention of Hangul while JYS focused more on science and the invention of water clocks. I’m very much enjoying this series as well, which focuses on Bang Won and his wife. My favorite of them all is TGKS and one of my favorite sageuks of all time. It showed everything from when Sejong was a kid to when he got old.

lee bang won Apr 01 2022 10:54 am I started 6 flying dragons while watching dramas. Funny how the Jeong Moong Joo/Po Eun actor here is the same one as the actor playing Jo Min Soo in 6 Flying Dragons. Joo Sang Wook from here also acted with Cheon Ho Jin (6 Flying Dragons Lee Seong Gye) and Jo Hee Bong (6 Flying Dragons Ha Ryun) in Good Doctor. Moon Chae Won also happened to be in Good Doctor. I'm bringing her up because she acted as the daughter of Kim Young Chul (Lee Seong Gye here) twice in both Princess Man and Innocent Man.

janni Mar 28 2022 10:03 pm hat's off to the writer and director of this drama. i like how the writer has shown details of the hardships of king taejong. how he has transformed from an obedient and loyal son and family man. same kind of a person taejong was in The Great Seer. his story in the drama is small tho. it was all because of the betrayal of his father who has severed ties with him as a well loved son because of his friendship to teacher paeun and the same betrayal of an evil stepmother. and then came the betrayal of his older brother and wife. family for him is the most important thing in the world at first but those betrayals have crushed his world and made him do things against his will.

wise move of the writer to make bang woon's wife greedy for power. guessing that it will pave way to have the queen of joseon be in charge of the inner court.

ten more episodes. eager to see more of how things in bang woon's tearful life unfolds as a person and a tyrant but effective king of joseon that he was. guessing as well that his reign has started making the laws that governed the joseon era and was continued by his son king sejong the great.

True. King Taejo was the one who humiliated Bangwon and even sent him to the Ming Dynasty knowing that he may be killed by the Ming Emperor. He did not even acknowledge Bangwon's contribution in founding Joseon dynasty. Have to cheek to put a young child as Crown Prince. Keep thinking of his dead double face Queen. Yucks. Bangwon was meant to be a King. No matter how many people wanted him to die, he still became King. King Taejo will realise that someday.

Wonderful to know this Taejong Yi Bangwon drama have resume broadcasting and the ratings are increasing. In this drama, i like how Lady Min and Bangwon love each other and support one another. I don't look forward to see both of them hating each other when they are much older. Can't wait to see the 1st and 2nd Prince rebellion. And the performance of Kim Min Gi as Young King Sejong. I just feel 32 eps is insufficient to cover everything.

I’ve watched both tree with deep roots and six flying dragons which are both excellent, but I am immersed with each episode of this drama.I love this drama so far. It’s so good and is supposedly based on real events. I am glad it resumed and look forward to more episodes. Please don’t punish the cast for what happened and watch. It’s so good.

I'm always interested in Korean history and so far this drama probably have kept it's original story compared to other Lee Bang Won's. Other actor's portrayal of the role such as with Jang Hyuk was more of a rough or rouge character of LBW (was born from a 'yangban' or from a noble family) which in contrast to LBW family background. King of Tears, Lee Bang-won is highly recommended. An epic kind in the likes of Jumong, The Immortal Lee Soon-shin, Great King Sejong,Jang Yeong-sil etc. All the said historical dramas were authentic people from the great Korean History. Hope everyone will enjoy watching it.?????

I just saw another favorite actor appear in episode 12. It’s wonderful seeing the these men and women star in these Excellent drama but I noticed why it’s such a cut above other similar historical kdramas is the WRITING!!!

Dhomrun Jan 20 2022 5:39 pm How many times are they going to make dramas based on that period of Lee Bang Won / Lee Seong Gye / Jang Do Jeon? The major plot line is already well known. For me, Six Flying Dragon is the best and Yoo Ah In supremely portrayed Lee Bang Won and so are the other main casts. I cant seem to watch any other dramas with other actors based on this story line.

Kenneth Freed Jan 10 2022 4:54 pm It is really excellent. All the significant characters are real historic persons. And at least so far the events are real. It differs from the usual saeguk which are full of evil dowager Queens and snivelling envious princes. Don't get me wrong. I love those. But this is more serious. Every significant character is both good and bad. They make good decisions and disastrous ones. The series is full of ambiguity as is real life. I am through the 6th episode and deeply impressed. I think this might be a masterpiece.

AJ Jan 01 2022 9:34 pm @Raeesah Khan: I agree, airing this drama on Sunday afternoon is still better than doing it in the middle of the night -- although a lazy Sunday afternoon is typically nap time for many people, including me, ha ha ha.

But I still think that if KBS World truly want to show that they whole-heartedly support this drama, they should air it in one of their evening prime-time slots. After all, as stated in promotional messages by KBS, this is their first epic saeguk drama in 5 years; therefore, this drama should be treated as something really special.

In Jeong Do Jeon, the story really depicts how it got there episode by episode in the perspective of Jeong Do Jeon. In this this drama, it focus more on the Yi Family perspective and their relationship between one another. I look forward to see the First and Second Prince rebellion and how King Taejo as well as King Jeongjong abdicated. Pls recreate the scene where King Taejo actually wanted to shoot King Taejong with an arrow and he missed it. That would be an epic since tears of the dragon.

AJ Dec 23 2021 6:04 am @Raeesah Khan: Thanks for the info. I just visited the schedule enquiry page on KBS World's website, and found out that "Moonshine" will occupy the Thursday-Friday evening prime-time slot, starting from Thursday, 6 January 2022.

Moreover, "The King of Tears, Lee Bang-Won", as you said, will start on 9 January 2022, although its time-slot is quite unusual, namely in the afternoon -- I previously predicted it would be aired directly after the weekend drama evening prime-time slot (which currently is occupied by "Young Lady and Gentleman").

For the last 1.5 years or so, KBS World have failed to deliver KBS2-produced historical dramas / dramas set in Joseon era to us international audience -- Royal Secret Agent, River Where The Moon Rises, The King's Affection; all of those had not been screened by KBS World as of now.

Also, as far as KBS1-produced dramas are concerned, the one that has been consistently broadcast by KBS World is only the family-themed dailies.

I am relieved the translation was not: "The sky helped us." which is often the case in these dramas.

A great daeha drama actor he is. I hope this drama is broadcast in international kbs world too. The main events will be lee seong gye's return from wihado, jeong mon ju's assassination, establishment of joseon, the first and second strifes of princes, execution of lee bang won's brothers-in-law , abdication of throne by lee bangwon for king sejong to rise to the throne and the case of Shim On and his execution.

So many Joseon lately but whatever, can’t wait to see what this drama looks like after The Jingbirok, Geunchogo Wang, Jeong Do Jeon, King’s Dream, Dae Joyoung and Iron Empress Cheonchu.
