Park Seok-Cheol (Lee Dong-Wook) is the eldest grandson of a three generation crime family. Unlike the people in his background, he is an innocent man who has a pure love for Kang Mi-Young (Lee Sung-Kyung). She is his first love and she dreams of becoming a singer.

Theresa Oct 15 2025 11:28 am The Nice Guy really deserves more credit. Despite the gang-setting (which I usually avoid), it isn’t overly violent, and instead gives room for heart.

Lee Dong Wook’s character is way gentler than you'd expect for a gang leader - the poetry, the books, the compassion — it all makes him more human. You can tell he was forced into that life, but underneath he has a pure heart. His chemistry with the female lead feels natural, soft in the right places, no forced sparks.

Also, that “villain” friend - the one you think you know - turns out to be more complex, not just black-and-white evil. As a LDW fan, I think his performance here is one of his best. Maybe even stronger than in The Divorce Insurance because here he’s allowed to be vulnerable, to dream, to love ….

Highly recommend giving The Nice Guy a chance !

Jillibean Sep 02 2025 3:39 am I loved the acting, it's just that the writing was often frustrating and too long drawn out with the violence of the gangster types in the story to counterbalance effectively the true love story of the main couple. More time spent on the romance itself would have been preferable. I'd give it a B+.

Kris Aug 10 2025 1:26 pm I just saw the photo of the drama on the main page where the posters of the current dramas run through and immediately told myself I have to watch (they look hot!), but also I was just wondering where my girl from Cheese In The Trap, and 'It's Okay That's Love', Miss Lee Sung-Kyung went! I just finished watched Legend of the Blue Sea (was on my list, never got around to it til now) and was looking for something with familiar faces that's new. I'm not even going to read the description of the drama and just watch the first episode to see because these are my favorite hot people and I am so surprised and delighted by this paring omg. okay byee

I don't get why some says they have no chemistry, they look cute together, they have a bad boy-good girl trope, but he's not really a bad boy because he was just forced to be a gangster, hence the title, the nice guy

Ep9 preview is not good but I hope they give them a happy ending

VL Aug 05 2025 10:32 am Guess this is what it means by lacking chemistry? I don't feel the spark between Lee Dong Wook and Lee Sung Kyung. I also find both their acting a little dull here. In fact, I enjoy the two sisters' romance more. And also rooting for Park Hoon who is more charming in this drama, though he is the villain.

They were high school sweethearts, then somehow got separated. They ran into each other again about ten years later at the hospital where Mi-Young's mother was hospitalized.

As far as aging is concerned: Koreans generally take very good care of their skin, thus Mi-Young looks very youthful. Seok-Cheol, on the other hand, has been pressured by his family to live a very hard life that is the very antithesis of his nature and what he would have chosen for himself. He is tired, he is weary, frustrated beyond belief and all this pain shows in his face. He's old before his time.
