Alex May 07 2026 6:03 pm That was the worst ending in a Korean film I’ve ever watched outside of Believer 2. Holy crap that was so unsatisfying. After losing everything, the protagonist needs to beat the crap out of that entitled BPD Psychopath. I don’t care if she was a victim of her shaman mom.

The villain needs a beat down and the protagonist needs to at least destroy the antagonist despite now losing both her parents.

For those who commented that there are many scenes that don't make sense, what did you expect? I mean since the beginning it doesn't make sense at all, how come you get a call from the past???-_- but still, it's good. We call it fantasy, just like signal and awaken Korean drama.

Noone Jul 22 2022 11:06 am It's quite boring, and some characters are bit dumb (sorry but its the truth). However there's one reason i finished this, and it's because of Jun Jeong Seo!!! I can't believe i got frightened by her acting. Her hysterical laugh and curse give me goosebumps. I so love her acting. Wish i could see more of her works in the future. She deserve the best actress for this one. Fighting!!

I don't know why park shin hye role is look so suffer , tortured , painful and always look sad either park shin hye take romance and thriller her role always look useless and weak again.I just think this movie will be more realistic scary and good like I saw the devil.but i guess no so dissapointed. I wish park shin hye role here can be more tough like the villain role. But when I see this movie the villain is more scary and tough than the female lead protagonist.

Viewer Jul 09 2021 11:07 am Such an excellent movie! Jeon jong-seo's acting is extremely incredible! It's hard to believe that she is a rookie actress. The facial expression, the gestures, the script delivery, everything was executed perfectly! She gives me chills whenever she snickers because that was sooooo creepy!

On the other hand, I would like to compliment Park Shin-hye too. To be honest, I kinda avoided watching any of her movies/dramas because her acting is a bit too stiff to my liking. Upon watching this movie, I must say that Park Shin-hye has improved a lot! Of course, she is not the best actress we have but she's improving and that's great!

As for the timeline, at first, I was skeptical of this concept because I think the time-traveling-through-a-phone concept was overused in Korea. Signal, kairos, times, etc. But I must say that the actors and actresses bring something new to this movie. The setting was eerie, and my heart could not stop being so nervous while watching it.

Overall, it is a very excellent movie! A definitely must-watch!

1. How the present Young Sook gonna know the past Young Sook is gonna die? If the past Young Sook died, there wouldn't even be a present Young Sook. (Hence, I won't accept the bitter ending where the mom died and Seo Yeon was captured. So I concluded the movie as happy ending from my point of view)

2. It does not make sense no police capture the present Young Sook after all people went to her house went missing.. like, for the police and mom . Police usually informs their higher officers first right? Before going to investigate anywhere. I saw a comment saying that the present Young Sook must've told the past Young Sook about the future first to prevent getting caught.. but here, the evidence is obvious already? Young Sook's body even scars from her mom's torture and she is even known as mentally ill person.. At the best of her fate, maybe she would be alive but locked up

Worstmovieever Jan 14 2021 11:52 pm This movie is the worst, how come no one never enquired all the missing people (young sook’s stepmother, strawberry uncle, seo yeon’s father, the police and so on) after all those years??? This part doesn’t make sense to me. All the people were missing after coming to her house. Apart from all that, this movie had been successfully destroyed after the mother went ‘zap’ at the end. Don’t watch it!

banananana Jan 07 2021 9:53 am I think they purposely made the ending that way. Therefore, it all depends based on the way you interpret it. SPOILER ALERT!! The first ending where she met her mother concludes that seoyeon are the one winning and she get to lives with her mother till the end. For the second one where her mother suddenly disappear, it means that seoyeon are now alone, which probably means that young sook is the one winning there. She might not get caught by the police I assume. Just my 2 cents.

Anyways... Except for that unsatisfiying ending, it is a terrific movie! Park Shin Hye and Jun Jeong Seo did a great job...

Especially, Jun Jeong Seo is an absolutely incredible actress, I've noticed her from Burning and now she amazed me once again... And she's pretty, so I believe that she will be in this industry for a long run with those incredible talent.

Park Shin Hye did a great job too, but Jun Jeong Seo stood out too much with that character, her actings are top notch... I will be shocked if she didn't win an award for this

Yasmine Dec 14 2020 5:13 am The acting was phenomenal. Both leads played the roles so well. You have to have a strong stomach for this or strong minded because I found if really gruesome at times, and I would get squeamish a bit on certain parts. To be honest it’s quite disturbing.

What I did like though was how eery and creepy they made it. The atmosphere and scenes felt so creepy, and the idea of a parallel universe was intriguing. The setting were perfect for this type of movie.

I saw some people saying that the serial killer girl was originally innocent until she killed her mom, however I feel like she already has committed horrendous crimes before that and that was why the Shaman had her locked up because she wanted to fix her. Maybe she believed she was possessed or something. But Im pretty sure the serial killer girl killed her parents. I figured before she confessed that she killed the girl’s dad. So she wasn’t innocent from the get go.

The ending is super bad its too depressing that I have to go watch some happy movie to ease my mind after. I should stop watch the movie at the part where SY’s father is alive and YS doesn’t know she gonna get killed. I think that’s the most happiest ending I’ve ever seen. Trust me, if u go further after that part, u will regret it.

Personally I choose the good ending because the psycho girl is annoying, I already predicted the consequence when she “saved” seo yeon’s father. For some reason it also remind me of movie “Case 39”, where it is for the greater good if the (evil) kid dies.

sara touzani Dec 04 2020 8:46 pm spoiler: Alexey you didn't understand, the plot twist is like park shin returned to the past at the end, using the same place she discovered in the beginning of the movie and she wanted to help her mom, to sacrifice herself for her mom so her mom can live.. the 2 girls from the past and the future connected together and her mom in the past sacrificed herself for her daughter and killed the psycho then the psycho disappeared from their life forever because she died .. and her mother survived (in the past at that time) .. and her mother in the future survived because she did the surgery (while park shin was not present ) they didn't had good relationship with each other, so her mom didn't expect her to visit anyway, and the doctor told her in the beginning that the brain surgery can succeed but any mistake can lead to paralysis but still can succeed and the scar in her mom's neck was from the past 1999.. please understand first do not say i don't recommend this movie while you didn't even give it a time to understand it

sara touzani Dec 04 2020 8:29 pm SPOILERS.. i cried my eyes out watching this movie, i think you have to be mature enough to understand it.. the serial killer had to die that day, what we see is that an innocent girl get killed by her step mother but god and the destiny knew that its better for her to die, so she will not make the other people suffer in the future (we have in quran islamic book a story like this).. sometimes when someone die we say why, we don't accept it... and the truth is death sometimes is better for people than life, if the psycho girl died that day and park shin didn't help her to survive she would not become a serial killer, she would die innocent without sins.. and the final is that her mother survived after her surgery because in the beginning you can see that the doctor told her that there is possibility that we can do the surgery... what we can learn from this movie is that we have to accept destiny, sometimes we see that its not fair what happened to us , but the reality is the opposite, she wanted to change destiny so she ended up loosing 2 person instead of 1.. and her father had to die anyway its his destiny.. beautiful movie great message and amazing acting

I think this movie have 2 endings. 1. When seoyeon in the cemetery and her mom comes to her, means in 1999 her mom is alive & young sook is dead. They live happily then. 2. The after credit scene is an alternative ending. In 1999 young sook is alive, and seoyeon mom dead. And then young sook locked up little seoyeon till the present day.

Natalia Dec 01 2020 7:22 am I have this conclusion. When SY mom and YS jumped and fell. Somehow they're both unconscious or dying. That's why YS in the future also vanished. Remember that every second happens in the past can affect the future directly. It can be changed every second. While YS was dying, SY could have a happy ending with her mom like what we saw on the first version of ending. But the problem is YS isn't really die. After a few hours, she woke up from the dead and still breathing. That moment affects the future directly. She's alive, she killed SY mom and she locked SY for years. So here we have the second version of ending.

Lee Karylle Nov 30 2020 7:54 am I rewatched the entire movie to see what went wrong. It seems that Seo-yeon failed to be near the phone in the last transition. She went outside the house after seeing so many refrigerator indicating that alot has been murdered since then. New Youngsook at that time picked up the phone and warned Old Youngsook about the arrival of the police and Seo-yeon's mom. The Call Can Only Be Done From The Past.

I think this is the concept with #Kairos (a drama with similar theme, with someone from the past took a chance to call her old number and connected to a different guy only difference is that they are only 1 month apart)

Going back.. Youngsook still being alive in the future meant that her mom failed to save her. But the difference it made was that New Youngsook's advise to keep the phone meant that they would be communicating to warn each other ? It seems that they have been tied up to the house. Noticed how the scene changed... I think total of 5 sets were used.

My thoughts for part 2...Someone from the past can only save Seo-yeon (wishful thinking I hope it's Yoo Ah In's character) but I guess the only person alive from the past is Sunhee and her association from Youngsook might give clues to the murders.

Still I can't helped but feel sorry for Seo-yeon in this twist that she's been locked up in the last 20 years.

Again this movie is mind blowing ?

We came through so much of crap and they gave us this awful twist at the end, ruining the whole ending. Its thriller, but like, cant it have atleast something looking like a good ending? It was perfect. She get well with her mother in the end, and yes father dies, but he died a long ago already, so she might've get on with it. But the twist at the end ruins it all, leaving awful taste and bad experience. The movie was great up until that point at the very end, which, as I said, removes all enjoyment you had watching it. Yall did a great job with acting, writing, directing and all, but that twist is terrible. Wouldnt recommend anyone.

Remember how she escaped her death by killing her step mom then getting arrested and put life in prison....what if present Young Sook had already escaped prison? Supposedly in the article it was her step mom that killed her but it changed and that’s how she was still able to be alive “present” and that was how she was able to call her past self to escape her death...hence why her step mom said she will face many deaths in the future hmmm..

B Nov 28 2020 9:46 am This is one of the best thrillers I’ve watched as of late. The plot was interesting, unlike some time slip movies or dramas I’ve seen. The cinematography was beautiful, but eerie. And the cast — they were outstanding!! Most especially Park Shin Hye and Jeon Jong Seo. Park Shin Hye’s acting went from one emotion to the other with much depth and ease while Jeon Jong Seo was brutal, tormenting you to bits. The rest of the cast was stellar too. Overall, this was a well-crafted film. Thanks to the ending, we’ll have a lot to think (and imagine) about. Definitely my kind of genre!

initially ,i thought that past girl Young-Sook was having psychiatric illness evidence by presence of persecutory delusion ,One of the examples is where she got phone calls informed her that her mother is going to harm/kill her ,hence she decided to kill her mother first,Also got delusions idea of reference and thoughts disturbance. But in the end ,i just realised actually present girl seo -yeon is the one who is psycho. She is having auditory hallucination and visual hallucination .Basically all the phone calls that she recieved actually seems to be her 'auditory hallucination' and he kept seeing her both dead parents and other dead peoples. seems she was traumatized from her past childhood history as well. even in the earlier movie has stated that this present girl has Brain tumour ,hence this could be the reasons of hallucinatory behaviour

I think the key point is the cordless phone. Seo Yeon and her mother survived, so they didn't have to live in that house in the future too. And the other girl who is at the end giving information to Young Sook is who moved to that house in current time and she is doing the same as Seo Yeon did. Because of the phone and time loop Seo Yeon and other people who lived in that house may keep changing their fate. SeoYeon herself may be disappear from the present anytime as Young Sook finding a way to survive and avoiding to get caught.

Scy329 Nov 28 2020 6:46 am I must say both lead actresses' acting were Really Good!! This movie showcased PSH's acting better than the zombie one. Also Jun JongSeo, she's gonna be a big actress.. literally got a bit scared while watching her, that means she's really good at acting.

I love this movie, brilliant plot, shocking, not that scary but it's perfect! Hope it will get more famous and gain awards.

Actually I was a little confused by the ending, but after I repeated the ending scene I started to understand. We must think that Soyeon and her mother are still alive in the present because of the scene at the grave. But after the credit everything changed, think about it, suddenly youngsook is present in the future indicating that she is surviving in 1999. The scene where Soyeon's mother suddenly disappeared indicates that her mother had also died at that time. There are two possibilities, soyeon was also killed by youngsook in 1999. or soyeon locked up for 21 years by youngsook.

Everything will be perfect when youngsook will be killed by his mother (in the past) so that Soyeon's life will be fine in the future. But we know that kind movies like this the villain will always win lol

@Selin umm the woman at the end IS Seoyeon’s mom and not Youngsook... Didn’t you see how she disappeared after past Youngsook woke up from the fall? The scars only indicate that those are the scars from the past fight with Youngsook.

I knew from the start, that past girl is a psycho.. Damn girl.. Never saw ur acting before.. I hope she can get offer to act in film/drama again.. Really anticipate more of her acting..

Btw, this film is about parallel world.. For anybody who doesnt understand this film please do watch kdrama title: Train.. Yoon shi yoon is the hero in that drama.. The world keep repeating the same pattern when u tried to change the past..

The Call was a really enticing thriller movie. There were so many twists that made me wonder, how will the ‘present’ girl defeat the ‘past’ girl if she can’t even face her? I am a big Korean movie/drama fan but for the first time, I felt the chills because the girl from the past looked and acted so scary, like she actually did have a disorder. I would 100% recommend. The beginning is confusing but you’ll understand midway and to the end. Just remember that it’s only confusing because the past and present keeps changing, due to the two girls “helping” each other out. Having one girl be a serial killer was a great idea and out of the box. In some scenes, you could predict what will happen, like for example, I knew the girl from the past would kill the ‘present’ girl’s father. But other than that, the rest of the scenes were surprising and really interesting. Now I understand why people say we shouldn’t change the past.

What can I say about this movie whitout spoiling. This movie is hard for me to give my thoughts on it, not because I din't understood it. But because of how it was handled.

So... (no spoiler)

After seeing this movie, I really was in awe on how the director played with this genre, turning it on upside down by the different ways he gave tips around the start of its plot to let you know the details of it, capturing the idea of time loops. Or it was a time loop after all? Paying attention is quite important. (not talking about dates)

At the end of it all you get to understand the basic premise of this genre and where everybody from the protagonist and antagonist are. Even making your own conclusion as to the true state of mind this plot made seem the main protagonist to be centered with it all.

This movie has one of those open ended finales, because how the ending openes up many ways you can conclude the ending of it. Sure is meant to create many provoking thoughts about how everything end up for her and the ways things left. Letting you to decide what it all meant for her and your own point of view of her.

the ship Nov 27 2020 9:08 am It's great. I had quite low expectation before, even though Shin Hye is one of my favorite actress. But this is definitely worth to watch. The plot is not hard to follow, and i like that "paradoxical" outcome.

SPOILER Ending : so is soyeon dead in the end or what? She was just hallucinating right?, when she met her mother at the grave? OR she was already dead in december 1999??? Goosebumps... I'm still didn't understand why jungsook in the future not aging at all?

red Nov 27 2020 5:17 am jongseo and shinhye.. did not come to play. totally love the chemistry between them and although lee el had short appearances, she looked way too good in this! quite slow at first but the intensity just gets better. jongseo's 2nd film only and her range is showing so well
