Lee Seung-Cheon (Yook Sung-Jae) is a high school student. His family is poor and he hates living in a poor environment. One day, he happens to meet an old woman. The old woman tells him that "If you buy this gold spoon for $3 from me, you can change your parents. You'll eat 3 meals with this gold spoon with someone your age and at their house. That person's parents will then become your parents."

Lee Seung-Cheon buys the gold spoon from the old woman and eats 3 times at his friend Hwang Tae-Yong’s house. Hwang Tae-Yong’s father runs a large company. Soon, Lee Seung-Cheon’s life changes.

yeolie Sep 20 2025 1:46 am This is the second time (i think?) that Yook Sung Jae and Choi Won Young are working together! I love them working together! Mystic Pop-Up bar is my favourite work for both of them. This drama is so good too! I’m so used to their chemistry as parent-son relationship.

yunku-chan Aug 05 2024 9:42 pm One episode was enough to not wanting to watch this serie, and I'm sad to have wasted 80 minutes of my time.

Right from the start, I didn't like the mentality of "poors are less than nothing and richs are all mighty" the serie has. Neither the fact that everyone was using the lead role as a punching bag. I cringed ans feel frustrated at it. Yes, the first episode is always about setting up the context of each character, so I kept that in mind. I knew it was a drama based on a webtoon (never read it), with some fantasy elements to it, so I kept watching hoping all my frustration would be worth it...

Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Not only the fantasy element never happened (which is odd because it's kind of a rule in this kind of serie), but the episode ended in the stupidest way possible... Asking to the man who litteraly doesn't know you, hates your presence and tried to make you quit school if you can have a meal at his house is dumb. And it doesn't give me the motivation to watch the next episode, because there's no suspence. He'sll say no, let's be real lol.

Park Min Feb 07 2024 8:25 am The very first scene we were introduced to generic high schoolers that left a sour first impression. Right off the bat we were hammered with the deplorable trope of bullies and rich kids that both were done in the most tacky ways possible. I hated every second but I kept my patience waiting for the fantasy/supernatural tag to kick in and change the scenery. It certainly did for a little while during the first half despite being very slow, especially with the insane 80 minutes runtime per episode. However, the drama started to fall apart around episode 7 and it became an unwatchable piece of utter junk after the insane 10-years time-skip in episode 9. Any potentials it had were evaporated.

The story had insane gaps that were impossible to patch. There are a lot of points to be made about the mystery, secrets, reveals, decisions, and transformations but I would be repeating myself. It was really frustrating watching the golden spoon's rules change and evolve to fit the story's new development and narrative, a very strong sign of amateur writing! It's possible to blame the writers' heavy reliance on the source material and doing the bare minimum to script it. Since the source material is a Webtoon, it wasn't surprising seeing strange behaviors and random elements starting to seep through. It's hard to trust a Webtoon story to translate well into screen without competent writers unless the Webtoon creator was exceptionally brilliant which in this case he wasn't.

Spoilers: I really feel the switched needed to happen for their to be justice for those destroyed by Hyeon-Do and Joon-Tae. Tae-Yong could not survive in that family of psychopaths. He would have gone mad or been murdered by them. Seung-Cheon at least had the brains and the will power to try to take them down.

Tae-Yong really needed that ten years to heal in a loving family.

Lin Aug 09 2023 7:53 am Recently finished watching this drama and I have got so many different feelings about it, but I’d easily say this is the first one that has made me feel such an incredible amount of emotions throughout one show. It’s definitely a roller coaster and it has so many powerful lines and impactful lessons about life and people.

The only thing I’d have wished for is what could have been in the end. Although I’d like to say the ending was bittersweet, I just can’t help but feel extremely sad for sungcheon, as much as some of his actions made me mad throughout the show I couldn’t resist feeling bad for him - I feel like he truly did love his family and as greedy as he was, i truly wish he would’ve at least witnessed seeing his family happy in the end - one of the main reasons he started all this. I have so much love for sungjae as an actor and as a singer and may have been more attached to his character because of this, so my feelings on this part of the ending aside, I’d still give it a 10/10;

The drama beautifully portrayed a poetic message about life — that everything comes with a price, yet money is not everything. (the enjoyment of a gorgeous, golden sunset is however free, of course… ☺️)

Noni Jul 30 2023 1:21 pm Episode 5 ruined this drama. I was fine with the rubbish storyline and then they had to go do that and make this drama dumber than it already was. It was barely holding my attention as it was and episode 5 helped me decide to just quit. Ugh!

mys May 18 2023 11:37 am okay i absolutely love the casting litterally one of the perfect casting for a webtoon based drama but the drama just wasn’t executed well basically the writers messed it up so bad if only they just follow the original storyline it would have been more impactful but the actors deserve the awards they did a very good job and i fell in love with all the 4 main characters dspecially sungjae and yeonwoo!

Oh Yeojin was way more interesting and had more to offer, was also the reason I completed the series. Some of the plot seemed forced and some things were obviously just for plot convenience. Great acting by 2 male leads and oh yeojin. Overall, it's a 5/10 for me

I never liked Yeojin. But how Yeonwoo and Sungjae played both of their characters so well that I couldn’t do anything but start to love her character. They are both good actors! Good job to other actors as well! Go watch this drama now and you’ll end up being yook sungjae fan like me hehe

It's writing, the MC is the combination of dumb and kinda smart(but him using his brain doesn't really show). Don't get me wrong the cast is top tier and all beautiful people. But It's getting annoying and boring for me. I'm going to drop this cos I'm just wasting my time.

iconickdrama Feb 12 2023 11:16 am I really love the concept of this drama and i truly reflected my life choices but with the ending, i didn’t think i would avoid considering using the golden spoon since he got what he wanted and survived using it, and as someone who loved the Seungcheon and Juhee ship, I don't like seeing them again after everything that happened. Their relationship growth seemed too forceful and some na juhee background plot are unnecessary.

This is one of the top ten dramas on disneyplus when it was airing but if it were to be release on netflix i think it would have been as famous as business proposal. Truthfully i hate oh yeojin but she is the second reason i watched this aside from the main character lee seungcheon. I dont know why but i dont favor na juhee. Taeyong won my heart too. He is so handsome, he can even express emotions well without any lines. His acting depth ahh i was so immersed in his acting thruout the drama that i forgot he is an idol! Bcs of him i love btob! His style in this drama kinda reminds me of yoo seung ho in memorist. Yook sungjae is the future of main leads in kdrama! I am looking forward for his next drama as the main lead! Every episode are worth to watch. I never expect higher for this drama because i did watch Secret Garden and some asian drama that change body. But Im So Sorry, This Drama Is Beyond My Expectation !! Sophie Dec 26 2022 3:00 pm Lee jong won won my heart as hwang Tae Yong. I personally would have preferred the male leads with different love interest. I found the love angle annoying and it wasn't worth the screen time. But the relationships between the parents has my whole heart, especially fake lee seunchen with his parents ?. Their scenes are usually very wholesome and emotional. If the story wasn't about rags to riches, I could vouch that Hwang tae yong was the main lead.

Guy had it harder than lee seunchen. He was without a father, he suffered from emotional, physical abuse from his father, uncle and step mom. He was alone and he is a victim of the Golden spoon thou it did benefit him.

So spoiler ahead,

~SPOILER ALERT ~ I read the recap and it made sense, the person who uses the golden spoon had to paid for it.

HHD > i don't remember the full thing but his wife reveals that SJT was his son or smthg ( as in Yohan) so he'll regret it, trying to take his son's life, when he's busy dealing with HTY as if he's his real son.

OYJ > her child got kidnapped by JNR's father the same way how the real OYJ had to deal with no life support ( as in medical supplies) and she had to be abused by JNR's drunkyard father.

LSC > not sure if I understand it, but so I've read, it said that a gardener (which I believe is Na In Woo?) accidentally change into HTY because he ate with the golden spoon three times without knowing the use of it.

In my point of view, LSC's golden spoon life is just being stolen away from him, just like how he stole HTY's life.

I don't think Seungcheon remembers. He was crazy about saving his family and getting them out of poverty, I don't think he can just leave them alone even if they are more well off now with Taeyong being a writer and Sungha married to Mungi. But hey who knows, maybe he has decided to just move on as he feels like he doesn't deserve them.

We deserved more information about Taeyongs birth mother. Did she figure out that Yohan switched with her husband the real Hyendo? And thats why she went "crazy"

I don't need a season 2 with these characters, the story for all of them is done to me. I wouldn't mind another season if we get different characters.

I really did like the ending. Golden spoon lady always said using the spoon comes with a price and the gardener used the spoon not knowing there was a plan to kill Taeyong.

I love how well balanced the story is, showing viewers the privilege of wealth but at the same time proving how important it is to spend and cherish our time with our loved ones before its too late! Its realistic! Yook sungjae’s acting is top-tier and his handsome face sometimes distract me from the storyline that i need to watch some scenes again lol. I loved seungcheon in the beginning but fell harder for taeyong! He totally know the real value in life and stood up for it! And i know lee seungcheon’s love for his family never changed but at some point his greed for money blinded him. I’m sad for what happened to him but that’s what it takes for his character development. The tragedy made him realized what matters more in life and i’m satisfied. I hate oh yeojin but her character development is so well done i can’t help but to fall in love with her. She really brings the epitome of a strong woman hiding past trauma to life! Plus her presence brings significant change to the story and she came off strong! As for na juhee, i loved her in the beginning as she portrayed a strong, independent woman who knows the real value in life but they did dirty for her character development, like she’s just there for some romantic scenes, and i blame the writer for it! Overall i am satisfied with the ending. If you’ve done something bad, sooner or later, something bad will be coming back to you! Good job for all the actors and director! Looking forward to yook sungjae’s next project!

Getting a Golden spoon was a test, whoever decides to abandon his/her name/family and loved ones gets punished and severity of the punishment depends on the deeds of the person.

Seung-Cheon decided to abandon his parents, and steal the spot of Taeyong. So, in return he had to face the severe bullying by Joon-Tae. For he ten years got tortured in America. There was not a single moment when he was happy after becoming rich. But, he had good heart and constantly repenting and acknowledging his sin. So, along with the punishment, he also got blessings. First, Ju-Hee recognized him and he got her love. Second, real Taeyong forgave him. Third, he not only saved from poisoned juice but also lost his memories. Now living as a new person, he will not feel any remorse about his past actions. He also met Juhee and there is 100% chance that Juhee will recognize him cause he say the same things real Seung-Cheon used to say, moreover, he still has a golden spoon with him. So, a happy ENDING for Seung-Cheon and Juhee. Oh Yeo-Jin got punished by not getting love by Seung-Cheon despite all of her efforts. Then in the end she thinks she is blessed but then, her daughter got kidnaped by Oh Yeo-Jin real father for money. It is implied that she is going to face such problems even in the future. No doubt, the best drama ever!

I still think that the idea was interested, but isn't well developed and the characters even with 10 yrs gap don't mature. They stay the same. The love for JuHee for LSC is a bit unrealistic.... The nicest character is the real taeyong, I am watching at this point only for him.

The ML is an egoist that wants just to be rich, not really helping his family, and I mean not about money. He was supposed to be a good student and when his class mates went to uni what is he doing? Oh yeah working at the convinient store right... By the way how this poor kid goes to the same school with the aristocrats ??? Don't find the story that good, if you really love your family, poor or rich, you love them as they are, you don't want to change them (like the sister does), you try to be your best to help in general, you "fight" together on their side.

The plot is something Ep1&2 are really on a fast pace while keeping you entralled every scene and very emotional roller coaster

Ep3 will be abit slow compared to the previous episode but drop so much information

Ep4 just bombard with so much information while on a fast pace almost all the scene has a very strong emotion into it, very exciting (currently my best episode out of the all the released)

Been enjoying it so far while rewatching some scene to fully understand it and appreciate the acting of the 4 MC

lili Oct 01 2022 11:18 pm Words cant describe how amazed and thrilled i am with the latest ep! It really hits home now that seungcheon finally realizes the downside of his choice. His choice is morally wrong but he has been through a lot bcs of money including bullying, losing only bestfriend to suicide and slanders, which the new seungcheon didn’t have to deal much with, thank to the real seungcheon. In the end, the most important thing to seungcheon is his real family and he didnt forget it even after being taeyong and i cant really hate him at least for now. The end of latest ep totally breaks my heart, but turned into goosebumps a few seconds later with the the unexpected appearance of someone. With a new big secret unfold, i am so excited to watch the next ep!

ge Oct 01 2022 10:19 am seungcheon and taeyong were born in the same day. what if they have been swapped when they were little or something, so actually seungcheon is indeed biological son of taeyong's father and vice versa. i mean, it feels like a clue that real taeyong has drawing skill and got panick attack just like seungcheon's dad, while seungcheon is brilliant just like taeyong's father?

elixir Oct 01 2022 2:20 am i felt a bit empty after the end of alchemy of souls but fortunately this drama came out and its good! i love this dramaaa i like ep 2 the most for now! ep 3 is not too dark but we can see the inner struggles of seungcheon to choose between his family and money but nevertheless he never abandon his real family (at least for now). i love juhee and seungcheonn and seems like people call them Nick-Judy couple how cutee bcs they do look like them! Looking forward next ep

It’s just 2 eps but how can it be this good already? Now i understand why the rating is quite high in korea. rara Sep 29 2022 12:27 pm Because of this series, I convinced myself to watch a drama played by Yook Sung Jae and Choi Woon Young titled Mystic Pop Up Bar. I was sceptical about this drama before I watched it, but surprisingly, it kept me hooked and I binged 12 episodes in a day. I loved seeing their good relationship in that drama. But now, I'm looking forward to watching different genres of them. They have shown their dark encounters and can't wait to see what's next. Fighting!

Hkanna Sep 28 2022 11:04 am The drama is a little better than I thought and I prefer ep 2 to 1. I thought it would be better if 2nd lead is a downright nice guy and a victim to first lead’s story. Yook is a very promising young actor but in this drama at least in the first 1 and a half episode there were some instances where he was copying the acting of another actor. It brought me immediately out of immersion. Him styling and tweaking his face a little similar to that actor did not help. His own acting is fine and I hope he drops that.

alterrh Sep 26 2022 6:21 pm I read the webtoon too, and i’m actually glad they made some changes of the story in the drama. The changes in the drama made the story much more interesting that it make me anticipating about what’s gonna happen next. The plot, the characters, are much more developed while still keeping the concept of the webtoon since it is an “adaptation”. The first 2 episode did a superb job at introducing the characters with its fast-paced storyline and i’m looking forward to the upcoming episodes!

And why you make Seungcheon and Taeyong not a childhood friend if there are childhood friend maybe President Hwang can give Seungcheon come to their home and enjoy a meal together. And then I think Juhee don't have any older brother and Taeyong don't have a stepmother. It's not logic for you to add other character that not have in the webtoon.

I am tired of super-twisted mysterious thriller and also lawyer kdramas this year. and this drama came just at the right moment! The fast-paced storyline and acting is daebakk! In just 2 eps, we had gotten so much life lessons and i am sure we’ll get more throughout the next ep! I am totally hooked to this one! Great job the golden spoon team!

Anyways i dont find it super amazing show like people are saying but its fun for a casual watch. Some people will find bullying very hard but since i saw some severe bullying shows this bullying looked normal just imagine how bad actually school bullying is that this bullying looked milder. What i liked was taeyong enjoyibg himself in new family he was very cute there.

Big Mouse was the last I watched and that got a little boring before the ending but that's still good though. Its Just Two Episodes And Looking Forward To This..

I also think that there will be a time jump because his friend's death was 2011 so if he uses the spoon again like said in the preview, after 10 years that will be the current year or 2021 I think

kdramaenthusiast Sep 25 2022 7:37 am After watching 2 episodes of the golden spoon i can say that it was Very Good And I Highly Recommend It! The storyline is so interesting! They also include controversial issues such as bullying, suicide, social classes and struggles in realistic and relatable way. Not to mention that all the actors’ acting skills are top-tier! Even the additional actors are so damn good! I can feel the emotions of each characters and even cried in a few scenes. The chemistry between seung cheon and na juhee is also good that im starting to ship them. The cinematography is so beautiful and mindblowing if you notice every details of it. For example when there are wall separating between taeyong and seungcheon in few scenes from ep 1 and 2 which symbolizes their different worlds or background. And also the reflection of oh yeojin in ep 2 which might have mean that there is another side of her that we didn’t know yet. After all, it’s just 2 episodes and there are so many questions for now. I found taeyong’s father is quite suspicious. There are rules regarding the golden spoon that we didn’t know yet and perhaps, seung cheon will learn about it the hard way (?) Who is the mysterious person who take taeyong’s phone at the bridge? I am also curious as how na juhee will handle her love-life as things will get messed up later on and how oh yeojin will take advantage over this mess. And who is the person stalking juhee? Too many questions and i am fully seated to know the answers.

Really thriller to watch, but I hope it will not go down like Big Mouse drama's plot!! This is kinda much darker omgg good job all the casts!!! In ep 5 preview, It is obvious that big brother is a perfect liar and we must seek the 5th kid aka real murderer!!!!

The story is very interesting, a little different from the webtoon but more fun, the development is also fast, tense, the story line is not excessive, the acting of all the casts are very good. I know Yook Sungjae is very good at acting, but in here he looks so much better, I think his acting skills are increasing, he is very good acting as Lee Seungchon! The other casts are also good, there's no acting hole in this drama, even all the bullies and friends are also good,. You will be carried away by the drama atmosphere because of this, overall this drama is very worth to watch, it deserves a high rating in Korea, I hope in the future it will be even better, fighting The Golden Spoon ?

nobi Sep 24 2022 12:19 pm I came up with a theory based on Taeyong's trauma and Juhee's secret past where she allegedly klled a classmate. So Taeyong and Juhee are childhood friends and they probably went to the same middle school in America. The friend Juhee visited in the columbarium (urn cemetry) was klled in the school shooting. The suspect, well Hwang Hyun Do believes that Taeyong, his son is and that's why he cannot break the engagement even when it's bad investment. For a man who values money above all and who hates spending, it is highly suspicious on why is trying to keep Na Juhee on the reigns by investing on her brother's business hence why he said she is worth 2/3 trillion won.

Or Juhee's friend was killed by the racist students in the UK boarding school.

What I cannot comprehend yet is who is the girl who picked up Seung-cheon's phone that was dropped under the bridge. Was she perhaps the old woman? Or perhaps Na Juhee is also like Seung-cheon who switched lives and that costed her friend? Who knows. I'm also bothered by the old man who trailed behind Juhee in the columbarium. That mysterious girl and old man were probably the ones who scared Juhee on the underpass as shown in the preview. And I feel like they are connected to magic/mystery.

Whatever it is, this highly piqued my interest. It seems like a typical highschool story but blended with magic and mystery it gets exciting. Plus they tackle bullyng and sucide which raises awareness for the general audience.
