Plot

A former navy commander (Kim Rae-Won) receives a phone call from an anonymous man. The caller states that he has set up bombs in locations filled with people, including a soccer stadium and a water park. The bombs are "sound bombs" that will detonate when nearby ambient sounds surpasses 100 decibels. The former navy commander desperately tries to stop the terror attacks.

Entertaining movie though not very memorable. Lee Jongsuk's acting is great. I think he really thrives in villainous roles. Kim Raewon is rather wooden here. I dunno if it's because his character is a military officer and he's trained to be tough in stressful situations but his reactions when finding out his family is in danger with bombs strapped to their bodies are kinda cold. Like "oh, my family's probably gonna die soon"—that kind of message with his wooden face. Even Lee Minki who only had a short screen time gave more emotions and kinda ate the scene during their interaction. Cha Eunwoo's acting is usually hit or miss (often miss), but he did spectacular here. He held his own in scenes with Lee Jongsuk. I think Cha Eunwoo's acting skills come out when he's not doing romcoms. His acting is bad at romcoms and maybe that's because the male lead role is usually the same old boring stoic rich handsome character and romcom scripts are often cringe and cheesy and only meant to make girls and gays squeal so it's probably not his fault he acts badly in romcoms.

Plot-wise, I wish they explored the brotherhood of Cha Eunwoo and Lee Jongsuk more. I get that family will always look out for each other, but I wanted to know more about their history. Like, I never knew they were brothers until the reveal of Lee Jongsuk being the villain. I don't know if it was a subtitling issue but the only hint in the earlier part of the movie was people telling Eunwoo that he and his brother are very handsome.

Another thing that confused me was why were the 2 out of the 22 survivors specifically targeted to be killed. All the reason he gave was they took advantage of their deaths but it wasn't explained how. Both of them didn't look like they were happy or thriving. Like, what?

Also, I get that the selection of the thread was meant to make the sacrifice fair, but families like the brothers should've been allowed to exchange. Because the older brother would never accept to just let his younger bro die. I know Cha Eunwoo's character also would not allow his older bro to die in his stead, but between them, Lee Jongsuk seems to be the more aggressive and unstable so it's kinda clear this would break him and make him snap, and he did.

Anyway, it was an okay movie. Good reference for Cha Eunwoo's acting skills. If someone says he's a bad actor, you can tell.that person, "watch Decibel, you'll see he's actually quite good" Other than that, pretty forgettable film.

The unhappiness and sense of injustice felt by Lee Jong-Suk is illogical. He felt outraged over the decision by Rae-Won to save half of the submarine crew, and he rather that all 44 men should die. Jong-Suk’s role reminds me of certain people in real life, the ones who don’t have solutions for situations but they feel compelled to object on the ground that the decision made by others aren’t perfect.

The weakness in the story is how did one man who’s psychologically unstable manage to rig multiple bombs to lead Rae-Won on a wild chase to defuse them. I’ll view this as an average show, it’s watchable but not to expect too much out of it.

As usual, lee jong suk never disappoints since his debut. He gave me the biggest impact during the movie. His acting is brilliant and top tier! + cha eun woo is getting better and better each time. I loved their relationship but I wish they went deeper to their brotherhood, since their scenes are very few. Rae won didn’t give a big impact , i wish he showed more emotions though, maybe the role requires him to be that tough and strong, but I mean as my point of view as a viewer I needed him to be more expressive. I give the storyline 7/10 since it is a typical revenge story , nothing new.

Ran Dec 22 2022 2:45 pm As usual, Lee Jongsuk and Lee Minki's acting are outstanding. Cha Eunwoo's acting is getting so much better. I love them in one frame. Love the characters they portrayed too. Eventho the casts are so damn good, the story is just so so. I understand the reason of the decision that the commander chosen but i dunno why i cant symphatize. I think also Lee Jongsuk gave more impact than Kim Raewoon lol. Im confused as the actual villain here doesn't get any loss. (The politician, that not even trying harder to try to save them from the first place, or at least send oxygen etc). Such anticlimax. Casts 10/10 Story 6/10. i have overestimated the movie prior watch it. I expected more with such great casts.

Kang Do-Yeong (Kim Rae-Won), a former navy officer, follows a hint given by a terrorist named Jeon Tae-Seong (Lee Jong-Suk), a bomb designer and navy captain from Mensa, and struggles to remove the bomb. The bomb is equipped with a device that cuts the timer time in half when it exceeds a certain decibel. From the moment you know this, the sound you can easily hear in the city becomes a noise that causes extreme tension. The sound of windows opening and closing, the chattering of children playing in the playground, and the cheers of the crowd when a goal was scored. Thinking of turning the scattered sounds in the city into a detonator, the terrorist takes Kang Do-Yeong's family hostage as well. Kang Do-Yeong, who threw himself without hesitation to save his family and citizens, found out the identity of the terrorist and eventually faced his own past. A year ago, the submarine (Hannah), which Kang Do-Yeong, an ex-naval deputy commander who became the target of terrorism, served as vice-captain, gets into an accident while avoiding a collision with a torpedo that suddenly appeared while returning from an international naval training. It was predicted that no one would return alive, but Kang Do-Yeong and half of the crew survived. In this way, Kang Do-Yeong becomes a ‘returned warrior, Korea’s leading star’. However, Jeon Tae-Seong, the terrorist, a navy captain, bomb designer and former Mensa member, asks Kang Do-Yeong, a former lieutenant colonel who fights alone to prevent a bomb planted in the city center from exploding, about his responsibility for the Hallaham incident, and the truth is gradually revealed.

The film pays attention to scenes in which a peaceful daily life is fragmented. A submarine with close comrades is transformed into a closed space full of fear of death, and suspense is drawn from the moment people's laughter turns into the roar of a bomb. In particular, the sequence hysterically capturing surrounding sounds that are normally not even conscious is interesting because it shows how hearing is visualized. However, the excessive empathy of the characters in the play and the excessive emphasis on the cause cut off the sense of speed and tension, and the lack of persuasiveness for the role of reporters and state agents who work tirelessly to help Do-young remains a pity.

I was already so happy to hear that ljs was going to act again in this drama after serving in the military but finding out eun woo is here to just makes me 10x happier! I have been waiting to see ljs and eun woo work together because the are my top 2 fav actors atm, I hope to see this on Netflix but if not I hope I can find it and be as happy with it as I was watching their other dramas.

He looked like and portrayed a more serious character, which caused me to find out what he was working on. I hope to see the movie, his performance, and Lee Jong Suk too, in his first role post military.
