Ddeonu Apr 07 2026 2:32 am Finally I finished watching this drama. Sorry I just watched it. This drama is quite good for me but there are too many conflicts. Inyeop and Chaeyeon's chemistry is quite good for me. Although in my eyes Chaeyeon still looks a little stiff. In fact, I prefer the chemistry between Haejun and Dal, Juwon's father and Haejun's mother. They look sweet in my eyes hehe.. basically I like this drama. 8/10

irishlevy Nov 16 2025 4:14 pm This drama was so heartwarming. I really love how the juwon’s father took the kids how he and sanha’s fathers teamed up to co-parent the three kids. I don’t understand the moms at all. Sanha’s mother was so selfish. She pushed sanha away and hated him when he was a kid, and then suddenly came back expecting him to do everything she wanted??? I’m glad juwon isn’t afraid to stand up for sanha. And Hyejun’s mother.. she is kind but how could she leave her son and not show up for 20 years? I don’t understand her reason at all. However, Sanha and Juwon are so cute together <33

Anon98 Sep 12 2025 8:05 am Just finished watching this drama. I have watched Go Ahead first before this. I must say the role of Kim Sanha in Go Ahead wasn't 100% portrayed in here. It kinda lacks yearning and sadness. He's very much expressive to juwon too. I feel like they could've added 4 more episode in this since I feel like it was really rushed when they became adults. But casting is really good. I will rate this a 7/10.

I became a fan of Chae Yeon after watching beyond the bar & king's affection really she is so natural and Bae Hyun Sang is so natural too its my first time seeing it, he looked youngest as his right age even as an adult , I like how they focused more on family than romance all 5 of them were very understanding and two dads are best dads but really I wish Sangha's dad should have taken legal action against that selfish toxic mother of Sangha , that woman made such a great son 's life a hell, all kids are such good ones.Relationship between male leads are so brotherly . Second lead couple is so cute too.

I love their sibling relationship & even though two become a couple later littlerally they have a sibling relationship in chidhood . Haejoon & dad's relationship is the best & 2 boys friendship & brotherhood is amazing . Girl is such a sweetheart. Male lead is so mature than his age sadly he has the most selfish cruel mother so toxic but he has to take care of such a woman who i really not suitable to be a mother at all.

Rob Apr 11 2025 8:50 pm I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I found every episode to be enjoyable and it definitely didn't get bogged down in the middle like what happens to some series. This was definitely a change from all the routine 'dad dies', 'dad ran away', 'dad is a horrible person' and etc. that compose the general rule for kdramas. The only major catastrophe for me was when Dal changed her hair style ;-). My favorite woman's hair style is how my wife wore her hair like Hae Joon's mom and Dal (with the exception that Dal had bangs instead of parted with no bangs). In fact I commented to myself prior to her cutting her hair how much I like her hair and how pretty she was. Oh well that still wasn't enough of a downer to not give it a 100 rating.

zeyto Mar 19 2025 3:07 pm no because I've seen other Korean adaptions of Chinese dramas before but this one just does not do Justice to go ahead. The female lead was one of the main reasons go ahead stands out among all the others cdramas. She had such a strong personality and i feel like family by choice just leaves it all out. Infact this drama leaves out almost all the aspects of what made go ahead so special and what made me love that show. Its almost like they just tried to recycle a perfectly good show to prove absolutely nothing by making a remake. i was genuinely so excited when it was announced. Going back to the topic of the female lead, i feel like one take away from her character was that no matter the circumstances she always stood strong. Which was by far the most favourite thing about her. She was shown as this girl who wasnt really good at studies but that made other abilities shine even more. She was headstrong, confident, extremely socialable, didnt need no man in her life to help her, had a clear cut vision for her future, and ended up the most financially and emotionally indepedant out of all the other characters. Its almost as if None of that was portrayed off of the female lead in family by choice. Almost like this naive fragile girl that needs her two older brothers to help her at every step of the way. Literally no. Its as if they stripped off every ounce of personality out of her. i understand not everything can be copied word to word into a remake but they left out almost all the things that made go ahead, go ahead. Tan Chan omg they left her out i cannot- what did she ever do to deserve this. Every character in go ahead was so meticulously crafted as to tell such different messages about the life of young adults and they left out the most important character. I cant that alone made me want to quit the show. The part where li jianjian makes a wood craved thing for ling xiao which then in turn literally turns around the trajectory of her life, Where Was That. i feel like that alone was such an important point in the show. For those who dont know in the chinese version the main fl is a sculptor who makes art pieces from wood, not some random pastry shop, That Was Supposed To Be The Younger Brother becuase the reason he becomes a bakery owner is so he can make all the pastries in the world for his little sister and the older brother becomes a dentist because she was always so scared of going to the dentist because Of Said Pastry Obsession. But this was a way the brothers were shown how much they loved and cared for her but yet so differently.

Not even hwang in youp could save the show honestly everyone who loved this show please go watch the original show because it kind of does leave out alot of stuff unanswered and why it happened the way it happened so might answer your questions. honestly this is just a rant but this could honestly been such a hit

dot Mar 04 2025 8:17 am I'm easily bored and often don't have much time for watching dramas, which is why I've left many of them midway; I didn't even finish 8 episodes of "Serendipity Embrace" and 6 episodes of "Soundtrack#2." However, "Family by Choice" didn't feel boring at all. Considering it was compressed from over 40something episodes to just 16, the director and writer did an excellent job with the pacing.

The character was well written, and I especially liked Kim Daewook; if that family is a home, he serves as a strong pillar sustaining it. Park Dal also delivered a great performance, with her voice perfectly portraying a timid high schooler who grows wiser throughout the drama.

If I had to nitpick, I didn't sense the romantic love from the female lead character towards the male lead as much as I Imagined it should be. However, in her role as a part of the family, she definitely nailed it.

Afolabi Tomisin Mercy Mar 02 2025 6:05 pm Like seriously…where exactly should I start from??this drama is so emotional ,passionate and affectionate…the love within that family is so pure and unconditional…I was literarily crying because of the love between Kang Hae joon and his father..they are not even related by blood and the love was there ….especially when he told kang hae joon ‘you don’t have to repay me for raising you…it just happens naturally for parent to raise their children’ this made me cry a lot…yes all characters has performed excellently…but my favorite is still kang hae joon for always laughing when there’s every reason to cry…. And as for my darling Hwang In yeop…I watch this drama because of him actually and he has never let me down…His character too is amazing…I love the way he always look at Yoon Juwon…as if she’s his entire world..they are so cute absolutely… In summary…family by choice taught me that genuine and sincere love can happen in a family even if they are not related by love though it will be rare…lol Well…every one has done well…I appreciate all characters but especially kang hae joon character …I will be waiting for more of your project darling and Park dal ..you are so cute.

Stupid selfish So Hee I hate her. Mom is really bad Han Ha turned out great because mom was gone good riddance. Mom is so toxic and selfish like her kid.

Also hate auntie she’s overcompensating and pushing Hee Joon because she feels guilty she also abandoned her nephew.

One thing that threw me off however was in Ep. 3, the basketball players were already wearing Jordan 37 lows (2023 release)... IN 2013. I know not everyone would notice, but stuff like this needs to be taken more seriously lmao.

Jillibean Dec 01 2024 8:12 pm Choi Won Young always chooses excellent dramas to appear in so I had no qualms about starting this one up, though I really feel this is more a young person's drama with the three young leads receiving the bulk of the story (I'm a senior so it takes a lot to please me, lol). I really grew to care more for the older characters over time and I hope Choi Won Young wins a Baeksang Award for acting in this drama. He is phenomenal.

And this actor, Bae Hyun Sung reminds me to Park Bo Gum somehow. Now, I become a fan. Good looking & good actor. Choi Won Young is 1 of my favourite senior actor. Love how he plays caring dad. I can feel it. So yeah, love this drama.

Oh my God....its so heartwarming to watch the relationship between the three siblings....I felt a lot of emotions coming through.

I felt the warmthness in each episode....I smiled a lot, cried a lot and was giggling like a baby a lot.

Using the words interesting doesn't even describe how good this drama is......its really my comfort drama and I'll continue watching it for a really long time.

I'll recommend it to family and friends so they'll also watch. I'll also say the cast did a whole lot of work to make this drama a success.

Hwang in yeop, Jung chae Yoon, Bae Hungsung, so ji- Hae , the two Dads and other casts am not able to mention.

It's so sad to see this drama end....but then again it was a good one...I'll keep listening to the OST and watching it for a long time.

This drama makes. Me have a feeling of reply 1988 Great drama Nice acting from Hae jun,I am surprised by his good acting in This drama and gyeongseong creature…he looks like a different actor in both. Watched what’s wrong with secretary kim again and saw him as an intern,amazing how far he has grown.

Sanha is giving facials,he is so handsome and Ju won is so beautiful. Overall,the drama is great.

Haejun's fear of being abandon again is so heartbreaking like whyyy. It's funny when he only jealous of juwon and sanha relationship bcs they will become real family if they get married..lol this boy only care about being in "real family" so much that he missed the true love he's been showered since child. But it's haejun right, he even missed the signal Dal had sending him for 10 years. Lol. They are my fav couple from this show, sorry Juwon Sanha lol. I just can't, Dal is too cute. Haejun too.

lea Nov 20 2024 1:23 pm When you're going to do a remake of a well written drama with stellar actors, the first thing, that is of the utmost importance is to not lose the "essence" of the drama. "Family by Choice" did not do justice to "Go Ahead." But what the writer did get right was the character of Kim Sanha and the two amazing dads Yoon Jung Jae and Kim Dae Wook. They have really understood their characters and you can see that through and through.

Now, what really irks me is that when you can cast such good actors for those roles, you should have taken responsibility for the other main leads as well, especially the central character Yoon Joo Won, because she fails to capture the original character's curious, lively, playful yet sensitive traits.

The actor who played the character Li Jian Jian in the Chinese version was genuinely adorable and you don't see her forcibly emoting or trying to act cute like it's some sort of process that it ends up looking mechanical and off putting on screen for anyone who watches it. Kim Sanha's relationship with his mom is a really toxic, difficult and draining one and I don't think that was done well here too.

The execution is really disappointing because when you can put in time for showing unnecessary characters (ajhummas occupying screentime) you could definitely cut down on all that and focus more on the arcs of the main and supporting characters and follow the heart of the story..

18 Again is such a good example of a good remake because they executed it so well without losing the heart of the story and with a lovely cast who can act. With this drama, it's really sad because I never miss Hwang In Yeop's dramas and I would never except this, he is so good, it's such a shame because of some actors and the execution of the drama.

But hae jun's story is interesting and bo gum's lookalike Bae Hyun Sung portrayal is good; adorable happy and innocent looking but deep inside he was so longing for his mom. Anyway, watch if you're ready to take the storyline all in. Not for the faint heart! I'll just leave it here that it's one of the best shows I've watched this year. Let's gooooo!!!

I love drama. Father and daughter bond is lovely ?. Both main lead are carrying for female lead ? it's lovely ?.about little sister is amazing ?. Im glad that family by choice start tobe well known more in their country as it reach good rating in weekdays plot drama, which usually not many people watching compare to weekend drama. No.1 korean netflix, viki, viu, and if not mistaken tving and iqyi also will air this, I hope netflix global will consider too. Its such good kdrama , we can learn many family issue in one pack and got positive point ; that every one is special , kids from broken family not always be problematic person in future. every kids needs tobe taken care by lovable sincere parents. All actors and actresses work amazingly - they make our emotion up and down. The kdrama is remix from Gohead cdrama, so far i enjoy. They do justice for Gohead masterpiece. Haejun and Juwon more like real siblings relationship. Juwon also seems uninterested when Haejun got gf but not when Sanha rumored to have gf. U can actually differentiate her feeling towards both of them. I really love this series and I hope Haejun's mom had a good reason why she's being like that bcs it's so heartbreaking for Haejun. He still hopes his mother come get him sobs.

Watching it because of Hwang In-yeop, until I saw that Choi Won-Young was in the drama too, loving it the more. I wish the writer won't include love triangle between the children, but since it's a remake, it might be included. San ha already loves Ju won, it's obvious. Him, rejecting the family registration and opposing her relationship. As for his mother, If I were him, I won't forgive her. She should just go. I just feel for Hajun, that's if he will be the love triangle, I hope he won't. I love his character.

I understand now why they make FL not chaos and has many phisical.touch to the brothers when teenage as it will more smoothly transfered to love line when adult. As kdrama character for bromance also more intense.

Bit different character for FL, Ju Woon compare to JianJian, Ju Woon is girly meanwhile JianJian tomboy and crazy haha. But for the character, I like Ziqiu (Hae Jun) Ziqiu more than Ling Xiao, Ziqiu such a carring and unselfish person.

In Go A Head has ending Haichio (JianJian's father) married He Mei (Ziqiu's mom) and JianJian choosed Ling Xiao (SanHa) as her boyfriend. Will Family by choice has same ending as the original? Idk, let us see.
