Nobody loves Hae Jo (Woo Do-Hwan), because nobody, including Hae Jo, knows who is his real father. This make people think he is like an impure substance among them. One day, he hears news that will change his life. He decides to go look for his real father. He happens to have Jo Jae-Mi (Lee Yoo-Mi) accompany him on his journey.

Jo Jae-Mi always wanted to have a family. She is going to marry Eo Heung (Oh Jung-Se), who is the successor in the Eo Family. The Eo family, including their mother Beom Ho-Ja (Kim Hae-Sook), run a food company. They don't like Jo Jae-Mi as Eo Heung's wife, but accept her because Eo Heung told them that she is pregnant. On the day of their wedding and before the wedding ceremony starts, Jo Jae-Mi disappears with Hae Jo.

Dave Jun 29 2025 3:19 am A flawed but rewarding Kdrama. The story is mostly trope: orphans/abandoned children dealing with the pain of it. Non-traditional relationships sustaining for years. But I would say this is a character-driven series.. the plot is often stupid. But the characters are true to themselves. Jae-mi is excellently portrayed, Hae-Jo is good too and the supporting cast is stellar. And finally, they didn’t rush the critical final episode. A rare K-drama with a satisfying ending! I’m glad I watched.

But yeah, they both are toxic to each other and i feel like they would hurt each other even more if they still start anew their relationship despite their bad breakup, especially with the guy's secret.

Lee yoo-mi really is one the most underrated actresses in her generation, girly can play either the protagonist or antagonist role excellently. You will either love or hate her character but you can never deny thats she versatile. Unfortunately, she's easily forgettable, maybe because she ain't conventionally pretty? Like, the visuals that ppl used to see in kdramas.

Kdrama Llama Mar 05 2025 2:46 am Wowzer. After recently watching the show for the second time, I think it’s absolutely fabulous. It has it all - drama, tears, depth, light, humour, a love story, growth… It also has the best OST of any Kdrama I’ve watched so far thanks to Junha Park. So, going forward it’ll be my recommendation for a gateway show to friends who haven’t dipped their toes into Kdrama, or looked further than squid game, and aren’t sold on the idea of 16 x 1.5hr episodes…

Wu Du Hwan deserves all the awards for his performance but the three leads (Oh Jung Se is more than a support and I loved him here!) we’re all flawless with not a single weak link in the supporting cast, from Bong Suk and Ji Ho to the mysterious John Na! Perfection.

I also loved the title of the show, which I thought was explained beautifully by Hae Jo in the show, plankton are seemingly tiny and insignificant creatures, literally at the bottom of the food chain, but they are a vital part of the ecosystem, much like a Hae Jo himself, who could be looked down on for his early life story and his roguish ways, but he’s the lifeblood of his circle, as we see at the end (sob!). The second hand shoes Hae Jo bought Jae Mi were also a beautiful metaphor, I loved them and how much she loved them too and her, she was a refreshingly un-put together FL who wore her heart on her sleeve.

Renwa Dec 29 2024 12:25 am Mr. Plankton was quite the viewing experience. I’m still trying to find the vocabulary to do this drama justice. I initially couldn’t connect to it but thank goodness I returned and watched it in its entirety which is a must if you want to see one of the greatest kdrama performances by a ML. Woo Do-Hwan whom I’ve enjoyed in many dramas gave a mesmerizing performance…award worthy at the highest level. This is his time. He inhabited his character like no other. The director and camera staff knew the same by all the closeups they filmed of him. Some of his scenes were literally jaw dropping as we were privileged by this actor to view the inner life and soul of his character. The drama at times may have felt chaotic but ultimately made sense and actually was cohesive as we saw the characters develop. Lee Yoo-Me whose work I so enjoy was excellent as well. The chemistry amongst this cast of beloved actors was strong. As a viewer you will ride through many deep emotions as you reflect upon the story and characters. It’s actually quite a complex thoughtful narrative so well done. Thank you all for such a fine production.

Sam Dec 11 2024 4:18 am Absolutely outstanding drama! Heartbreaking moments are balanced by hilarious, sweet and funny ones. All characters are wonderfully portrait, through the story they grow emotionally coming to terms with their own traumas or difficulties. Family ties are redesigned trough the story. But it made me cry too much. About the title, you will find out why he is called Mr. plankton in the 9th episode. I don't think it's relevant for the story, but it kind makes sense and gives a sense of closing. Highly recommend if you are looking for something a bit deeper. 10/10

Erika Dec 06 2024 8:10 pm Woo Do Hwan is so distractingly attractive I just cannot be objective. He is the perfect Unwesternized Korean man with his natural skin color and god given eyelids. Whenever wasnt staring at his beauty, or being mesmerized by his velvet voice, I was being amazed by his acting. He really laid it all out on the line for this role and I hope he gets recognized come awards season.

I didn't know the FL beforehand but I liked her. Very much reminded me of Chun Woo-Hee (Be Melodramatic, Atypical Family)

Oh Sung Je was poorly utilized. I was disappointed in how he was written. Love him to pieces but the character nor the actor belonged in this series.

Instead, Lee El and Kim Min Suk should have gotten those minutes.

Anyway, 9/10. Watched in 2 days, cried like a baby, will rewatch when I wanna laugh and cry.

Chey Dec 03 2024 1:19 pm So true with what Plankton wrote below!!!! I, too, am on a Kdrama drought of late. It's been awhile wherein i have had 3-4 dramas airing simultaneously in a week. Woo Do Hwan did carry this drama himself ! Amazing delivery! I wish to see him in a serious genre such as Mouse or in a melodrama in the future.

Kim Min Suk.is such a cutie here. Lovely sidekick though.

I can't say for the main actress. I find her character a tad irksome with all the screaming.

Plankton Nov 29 2024 9:13 am After a kdrama drought of over 2 years, this is the first drama that got me binge watching again!! Recent kdramas have been very boring, even the overhyped ones, to the point that I can't even finish more than 2 episodes, but Mr Plankton broke the spell

What I love:

1. The male mc carried the entire show on his back. His acting skills, how natural he was in carrying his role, the dark calm masculinity he exudes. I wouldn't say it's his looks per se, in fact sometimes I think his face looks a bit scary, his hair is weird, but I love watching him somehow. All the tiny details like the microexpressions, the voice tone he uses in different scenes, the not 'overdoing' his acting, everything felt so natural like he really embodied the character. I honestly love the realistic male MC personality he brings to the screen, it's impossible not to be drawn to him like all the other characters are. In fact, I find that everytime he's not on screen, the story starts to get boring. He really brings 'life' to the story. It's so amazing to watch because it's not being good looking and what not, it's the character and acting skills. Just absolute talent. Take him out, and the story would be dead.

2. I loveeee the random 'comedy' moments. It's so crack sometimes. In fact, the intro to ep 2 when he told the (spoiler) sperm donor story, caught me so off guard, it was so hilarious and I knew I'm gonna love the unexpected plot already. Gosh, and the MC made the numbers so funny xD like 'I'm tube 137 shib--"

3. I love how crazy the two MCs are, like really soulmates in terms of how whack they are. Like you won't even expect how crazy they're gonna be in the next scene. The script was good too like when Hae Jo said "I can already imagine what you did" when he woke up outside the hospital

4. Kkari!!! Omg, I knew it's gonna be good when he's the second character. I wish he had more scenes with Jae Ho, I love the guy so much and he's always funny. He also looks so good in this drama with that haircut & tattoo on his neck.

What I think was a bit unnecessary:

1. I think the whole Heung character & the contrast of modern day MCs surviving in an urban city vs Heung's cultural family was just unnecessary. It felt like a second writer entered the room and added something unnecessary. The story should've just focused on Hae Jo & Jae Mi. I wouldn't mind the ending, if we had all 10 episodes just focused on them and perhaps bong suk & kkari as sides. It's such a missed opportunity not to focus on these 2, given the interesting plot that they introduced. I feel like Heung should've been out of the picture after the wedding. It's a perfect comfort show everytime the two MCs are on screen, wandering on random trips, but everytime it goes back to 'historical' korea with heung's family, it gets boring again. It's not bad, it's just unnecessary for a gem like this.

2. I don't have anything against the female MC, in fact I do understand why her character has to be crazier than Hae Jo, but personally, I think the typical loud female trope should already be outgrown in kdramas, especially parts where if she's angry, she's allowed to have no emotional control and start physically assaulting the guy (if the roles are reversed, it wouldn't be accepted at all). She can be crazy without all that. The trope gets tiring at times, but still, she had many good parts too, and having good chemistry with Hae Jo.

3. The title is kinda weird lol. I think it's why most people didn't watch the drama. Planktons weren't even a strong reference in the drama.

Overall, thank you writers for bringing back kdrama gem!

Oh jung se is also doing an amazing acting here. The story is amazing. I will recommend this drama to all!.

I think that in the end he did die unfortunately but in a beatiful way that he wanted to: not in the hospital staring at the ceiling but on the snow staring at the blue sky in the arms of his love. The ending scene with the car on the road... I believe that it's Jae mi following his wish to continue the wandering by going on a journey...

D Marq Nov 23 2024 9:12 pm Life is short and the main lead wanted to live to the fullest . This is a fiction drama of love and friendship. All casts acting is awesome. I really enjoyed watching this show full of drama , twist and turn. It's more of forgiveness and trying to make up for ones mistakes.

Cheryl Nov 22 2024 6:27 pm When Mr. Plankton came out I noticed that Oh Jung-Se was in the cast and being a fan of his, I had to watch it. I was only familiar with Woo Do-Hwan from The King: Eternal Monarch but had not heard of Lee Yoo-Mi at all. I didn't really know what to expect but from the first scene, I knew that it was going to be tough. It was an emotional ride from start to finish and in my opinion, Mr. Plankton is a masterpiece. Everything from the soundtrack, the cinematography. the writing and the amazing cast made this a drama I will never forget. It's funny, its sad and its beautiful. The ending was thorough and complete and I loved every minute of it.

Gyeongsang creatures was the last series which I watched till the end. Still not satisfied with the storyline in season 2. This one I watched in a day and I liked it. hope they make 2 season of it.

No miracle cure no evil ex! It's an offbeat story about broken people... The acting was amazing, the chemistry was sizzling even though the FL was punching above her weight!

Kudos to the writer two masterpieces back to back! And to Woo Do Hwan for being the most beautiful man alive!

I'm on episode five and Hae-Jo is so unlikeable and self-centered/selfish that he's not deserving of a redemption arc. This drama is basically "Man will kidnap their ex-girlfriend, neg and gaslight her and drag her across the country against her will to avoid one therapy session". It's not hot, it's not cute, it's 100% a pathetic story and I feel bad that the actor chose this project.

Scott Nov 12 2024 7:38 pm Hae Jo is the least likable lead I’ve watched. I’ve watched hundreds of K dramas. He kidnaps an old girlfriend and makes her stay with him. The only and I mean only character to like is Eo Heung. One theme of the drama is the shoes. Eo Hueng searches all over for shoes she loves and Hae Jo just throws them away, while they make the used shoes he bought Jae Mi special.

You want to feel sorry for Hae Jo, but the guys a total jerk. He treats his friends and past lover like garbage. I cheer for his death.

I love you both and hope that there will be future projects together. Regardless of the ending...just the fact they were brought back together was beautiful. Regardless of what both were struggling, they both were each other's comfort, and it made it all more heartwarming. Great casting and great storyline. Thank you Director for putting these two together for this drama. I could feel how much they loved each other. Now...need to go find a happy drama. :)

Mona Nov 10 2024 9:22 pm I am loving this series. I have always liked dark comedy and melancholic dramas.

I think many people commented about the kidnapping plot, it would be really bad in real life or a story generally. But to me in this plot, it's more like Hae Jo is actually trying to give her a way out. He knew she was weary of going through with her plan. Yes, she said she was going to do it anyway, but when given more time to think, she decided it was right to let go. Hae Jo definitely got mad for both of their fate when he found out what happened to her too.

I like all of the protagonist characters. Eo Heung is the warmest and loveliest guy. While I thought there was another reason Jae Mi wanted to marry him at first, I understood why she wanted to marry him as the story goes. And I do think she really did love and be attracted to him to a certain degree, but, it's the idea of being with such a lovely man that might make her decide on the marriage. He can give her the family and stability that Hae Jo was never able to offer her.

Heyarnold Nov 10 2024 2:09 pm If we set aside the "not so perfect" story, the acting was, for me still great, the story is fiction but the need to feel wanted/loved and belong somewhere is real and the actors portrayed that emotion so well I cried my eyes out especially the last two episodes. Bravo

It's good that the series has a touch of comedy. I love the music and cinematography too! Oh jung se and Wo do hwan - nailed it the rival turn friends/bro.

You will laugh and cry! But it's not traumatic!

For me it's a 100! Best acting so far this 2024! Kudosss!

Lerra Nov 10 2024 10:43 am I started the drama without having heard much about it, but still knew it would be good since Woo Do Hwan and Oh Jeon Sae are here. Now I'm bowling my eyes out and I'm ready to pay for Netflix subscription just to rewatch it again and give all the credit to everyone who created this masterpiece. It gave a bit of " It's ok to not be ok" vibes only to find at the end that it's the same writer. Whoa.. what a rollercoaster.. It's better than Lovely Runner and everything I watched this year. This is the top kdrama of 2024 for me.

It has a bittersweet ending that was beautifully written. This drama will forever have a place here in my heart.

He is a main cast member on ABC's long-time hit show Grey's Anatomy playing the role of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nico Kim. He likewise appears as Dr. Kim on crossover episodes with Grey's sister show Station 19. Notably, Landi is the first ever Asian male surgeon on both programs.

Previously, Landi portrayed Henry Lee in season 2 of Netflix's Insatiable opposite Debby Ryan. Landi was also the sole lead character in Doja Cat's 2021 official music video for her Grammy-winning song "Kiss Me More" featuring SZA. It marked the first time a man of Asian descent was the lead of a Hollywood music video.

Landi will next be seen as a series regular in his debut Korean drama for Netflix's Mr. Plankton
