==Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki Staff ©==
Popie ([[Lee Jung-Jae]]), Yenicall ([[Gianna Jun]]), Chewingum ([[Kim Hae-Sook]]) and Zampano ([[Kim Soo-Hyun (1988)|Kim Soo-Hyun]]) are a team of professional thieves in South Korea. After they score a valuable antique vase, they hear from Macao Park ([[Kim Yun-Seok]]) in which he proposes a highly lucrative new job in Macau. Meanwhile, Pepsee ([[Kim Hye-Soo]]) is released from prison on a special pardon.

A few years back Macao Park, Pepsee and Popie worked together as a crew. Macao Park and Pepsee were also in a romantic relationship. Then, while stealing gold bars, Macao Park's cable snapped in a elevator shaft and he disappeared with the gold bars. Pepsee was arrested shortly afterwards.

Now, Popie, Yenicall, Chewinggum and Zampano head off to Hong Kong to work with Macao Park. What Macao Park doesn't know is that Pepsee is also coming with them.

In Hong Kong, a separate crew awaits for the Korean thieves. The four Hong Kong thieves consists of Chen ([[Simon Yam]]), Andrew ([[Oh Dal-Su]]), Julie ([[Angelica Lee]]) and Johnny ([[Kwok Cheung Tsang]]). When the Hong Kong and Korean teams finally meet, tension rises immediately between the two groups. Macao Park then enters the meeting and lays out the plan. Their goal is to steal the "Tear of Sun" diamond. The diamond itself is currently in the possession of ruthless criminal Wei Yong. Furthermore, the diamond is stashed safely in the suite room of a Macau casino & resort. Macao Park also lays another bombshell. He can easily sell the "Tear of Sun" diamond for $20 million dollars.

Now the two teams work together in what will surely turn out to be the heist of their lives, but the 10 thieves all have their own agendas.

# Filming began May, 2011 and finished December 7, 2011. Last scene filmed took place at Hotel Walkerhill in Seoul, South Korea and involved actor [[Kim Yun-Seok]].
# Over the movie's 6 months of filming, shooting took place in Macao, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Busan.
# Early working English title was "The Thieves," then marketed as "The Professionals" and then set back to "The Thieves."
# "The Thieves" became the first 2012 film to surpass 2 million ticket sales during its opening weekend in South Korea.
# August 2, 2012 ( Day 9), "The Thieves" surpassed "[[Nameless Gangster: Rules of The Time]]" (4.6 million) to become the top selling domestic film in 2012 with 4.87 million tickets sold.
# August 6, 2012 (Day 13), "The Thieves" surpassed U.S. film "The Avengers" (7.06 million) to become the top selling film in South Korea in 2012. After its 13th day, "The Thieves" has now sold a total of 7.27 million tickets.
# August 15, 2012 (Day 22), "The Thieves" became only the 7th film to sell more than 10 million tickets in South Korea. The other 6 films are "[[Silmido]]" (11 million), "[[Haeundae]]" (11.39 million), "[[Taegukgi]]" (11.74), "[[The King and the Clown]]" (12.3 milllion), "[[The Host]]" (13 million) and "Avatar" (13.3 million).
# August 26, 2012 (Day 33), "The Thieves" passed 12 million admissions in South Korea. Only three other films have accomplished this feat - "[[The King and the Clown]]" (12.3 milllion), "[[The Host]]" (13 million) and "Avatar" (13.3 million). At the end of the day, "The Thieves" stood at 12.09 million tickets sold.
# August 30, 2012 (Day 37), "The Thieves" passed "[[The King and the Clown]]" (12.3 million) to become the 3rd all time best selling film in South Korea. At the end of the day. "The Thieves" has sold a total of 12.32 million tickets in South Korea.
# "The Thieves" sold a total of 12.98 million tickets, trailing only "[[The Host]]" (13 million) and "Avatar" (13.3 million) to become the third best selling film at the South Korean box-office upon the end of its theatrical run.
