A chance encounter with a college co-ed Ye (Li Xiaoran), however, commences an affair which ends abruptly when Jia decides to move to Beijing. Two years after their engagement, Lang is sent to work in L.A.. While waiting for her visa to the States, Jia falls in love with a rookie cop in the anti-narcotics department, Bian (Xie Xiaodong). When the visa finally arrives, she decides to leave Lang for Bian. After her departure, a burglar breaks into the apartment. Realizing that it is uninhabited, he rents it out to none other than Ye. One day, Lang finally returns home from the States and is astounded to find Ye living in his own apartment.
