Fudeko Ishii ([[Takako Tokiwa]]) was born as a daughter of a baron (during the the Meiji era) and<br />
studied in France. She spoke three languages. She<br />
was born both beautiful and intelligent. American<br />
President Ulysses Grant praised her as the most<br />
intelligent woman in the country on his visit to Japan<br />
in 1879. Her life changed when she found out that<br />
her daughter had intellectual disabilities.<br />
<br />
Fudeko Ishii goes on to become a pioneer who establishes education, care and social services for developmentally disabled children in Japan.<br />
