Ma Yi-Deum has worked as a prosecutor for 7 years. She sometimes resorts to drastic methods to win cases. One day, Ma Yi-Deum is transferred to a special division dealing only with sex crimes.

Water Jan 06 2023 10:17 pm I know yall hate Ma Yi Deum for that attitude, it must be hard for you to see the "good, graceful female lead" stereotype being broken here isn't it hahahah when all she does is just being a realistically flawed human being that however try her best at what she do even undeniably she sometimes choose the rotten way or mainly did it selfishly... but aren't we all like that. And she always so cool in handling the dynamic and small flirtings with the male lead and keep it from shifted to some cheesy romance. It's refreshing to see that kind of female lead, like where else? Not much. And the title is "WITCH" at court so she's just live up to that name. Here's to the girls with Ma Yi Deum-like attitude to survive their daily lives.

key20 Jul 18 2022 1:45 am I don't like this series at all. (SPOILER!!!) In episode 1, there's a scene where Yi Deum's sunbae is taking advantage to the reporter, and Yi Deum is actually seeing with her own two eyes what her sunbae is doing. The Sunbae Is Trying To Rape The Reporter!! Yet, she's not doing anything and just making a glance. I don't know but I found that so wrong, Yi Deum should have protected the reporter. In addition with that, I understand the sunbae culture but when your seniors are wrong, don't be shy to fight for what is right!

I am disappointed to Yi Deum! And to her sunbae!

chesstitans Feb 13 2022 7:03 am The trope of this drama is about judge and the Korean judicial system vs crimes against women. This drama only focuses on depicting the pains, the fates, and the lives of victims. Other than that, nothing else is new, or exceptionally outstanding in this drama.

there is like probably only 5-10% of romance and even that, they tried to push it aside in the most natural way possible and i find it perfect for the story itself. (coming from legal/crime dramas lover) really love the way Ma Yi Deum sneaked her way to solve the cases because to handle those rats, we need a person like her. (Though her character started off as selfish at first, she learned it the hard way as to why she should change into a better person. I'd say character development was top notch on her part.)

i love the issues that they brought (like the female rapist one), the way they handled the cases, the twists, and the things that we can learn from the stories(?) ergh. love it so much.

overall 9/10 for me <333

Girls are imperfect too Jul 29 2020 1:43 pm To people unimpressed by the female lead (and some commentators who can’t seem to distinguish between the character and the actress).

We actually a lot of shows where the main male lead is described as a ‘tsundere’ character and often goes leaps and bounds of character growth throughout the course of the drama and usually because he magically becomes a good perfect person because he falls in love with the female lead. Those male leads are also rude, arrogant, selfish, mean, insensitive, hypocritical and borderline violent. And as they are often rich CEOs who have loyal secretaries and a contingent of employees to do everything for them, the most they often do in their role of responsible CEO is sign papers and spend the rest of the day stalking the female lead.

This is just a show where the female lead is like that. Except she’s much more honest about it. She admits she is btchy and simply doesn’t care. And as this drama doesn’t focus on romance, she doesn’t go through any magical character growth (devil to angel) because she’s in love with the male lead. But there IS still some growth and realisation of right versus wrong (atleast partly due to the male lead’s influence). The show also doesn’t try to romanticise her negative character traits the way some psychotic male leads have been in other dramas- it’s literally titled “Witch” at court.

So with that in mind, onwards! It’s not perfect and no work of fiction ever is. None of these type of grey/half corrupt characters ever are and you are free to dislike that. But give it a chance and don’t be a hypocrite yourself.

Li Apr 10 2020 11:33 pm This drama was amazing! I loved how everything tied up and slowly unraveled itself. I loved how the lead actress showed confidence even in dark times. I actually watched this a couple of years ago and decided to rewatch it and I still love this drama. This symbolizes that women also matter and can do things on their own even if the higher ups look down on them. I liked how she fought for the justice that her mom deserved and how she achieved her dreams and never gave up on her dreams. She’s amazing. Plus I loved how they had a little form of romance but didn’t really focus more on it. I loved them both! They are toooo cute! (I just stumbled upon this drama and randomly clicked it. That Was Not A Bad Decision. I Highly Recommend!)

Haku Feb 28 2020 1:29 pm I rewatched this drama and I still love Ma Yi Deum to bits. Even as a fictional character she's a rolemodel for confident women in the workplace. There's no reason why a competent woman should stand back and let the higher ups get all the spot-light (first few episodes). I like it very much that she's not a black or white character. Women can be more than cliché 'sinners or saints'. Jung Ryeo Won is a great actress. All in all 'witch at court' is still one of my favourite dramas.

choci Feb 02 2020 11:29 am i don’t get it why people say it’s a bad drama. this drama is one of the best judicial based drama i ever watched. the female lead is fierce, arrogant and hot temper but it’s the highlight of the drama which means, her character gives a thrilling and fresh feeling to viewers. i swear to god, you guys need to give a try. ryeowon is such a great actress and i cried a lot watching this one

This chick is the worst actress ever and she thinks she is the best and looks cute but she looks like an older woman. Even tho what happen to her mother it does not give her the right to break and bend the law and force people to do what she wants. It kind of reminds you of the corrupt people she is so called fight against.

"By far the worst lead character in Korean dramas in at least a decade if not more. One dimensional and that one dimension is "bad person". Think of any negative quality a person could have and the lead female in this show probably has it. Laziness? Yep. Corrupt? Yep. Egotistical? Yep. Violent and abusive? Yep. Hypocritical? Yep."

fan Jul 12 2018 4:49 am daebak! one of best dramas around! gripping to 'last drop' if i may add. and I'm someone who is selective about my dramas. thank God i gave this drama a second chance as due to lack of time, i gave it up just watching 5 mins of it in 1 of the episodes. I've learnt it's important to watch drama from Episode 1 though the pace might pick up later but not for this one. One of the best ones around! yes, i will like a season 2!

But, after warch this drama, it was really “daebak” plot that... i mean, such an aaamazing plot with characters that suits in it! You guys could add this one as recommended watching from me, and, you’ll never regret after watch this!

Bexy Feb 27 2018 2:15 pm Jeon Kwang Leol is the icon of the (really) bad, wicked, vicious guy. Whenever i see him in a drama it can be sure that i'm really going to hate his caracter, he is so good to portrait really evil caracters. This drama is really good, different from the avarage dramas. Ma Yi Deum is not perfect, she is very normal, a good person overall, but not politically correct, and i like it very much. Yeo Jin Wook is a very "clean" caracter but that doesn't mean he is stupid nor weak. The romance is subtle and doesn't bother the vision. It would be nice a second season, with the same protagonists, of course. Recomanded

Watching mostly because I like crime dramas, solving the case, etc, etc. But the lead gal so far just is so irrational and annoying and heartless. Strong female leads are good, but she is just plain selfish and insensitive and egotistical. With that said I hope it gets better or I may have to just abandon ship.

I'm not a fan of Jung Ryeo Won, that's why it took me a lot of time to consider watching this. but NO REGRETS! No dull episodes. Been drama-hopping because I couldn't really stick to one that I really like these few days, but this is awesoome <3 I just love it when the female leads are the femme fatale kind of women, like this one, she just doesn't beat around the bush, fiesty, angsty, but at the same time you can see the part of her that's soft. No matter what happens, she never backs down. I'm not into cliche romances that much so I loved the chemistry between the leads here. They showed how they cared for each other in a rather weird way, without showing the romance. Although I found myself wanting to see at least a bit more of that rather than something that lasts a few mins.. lol. Ace!

Tya Abdullah Jan 19 2018 10:49 am I watched this drama because I really love Ma Yi Deum's character. She's not the typical damsel in distress kind of female lead. She's strong, intelligent, witty, confident, funny, and most of all, a savage!

The only thing that I was hoping to see but I didn't in this drama was more of the romantic scenes between Ma Yi Deum and Yeo Jin Wook. There were only some in the first few episodes and only a tiny bit in the very last episodes. The episodes in between were too focused on the plot that showed their duties as prosecutors and lawyers and also on their day-to-day strive to catch Jo Gab Soon. It doesn't have to be too romantic with many kissing scenes but at least some sweet scenes like holding each other when they were in tough times.

All in all, it's a great drama and worth watching :)

I really hope cases on sexual assault will be taken seriously and penetrators will be punished as they deserve. I reallt recommend this drama to all! I hope it will be an eye opener that even little cases shouldn't be ignored to prevent bigger things to happen.

cc Dec 21 2017 9:34 am I watched this drama because I read all the good reviews. I was happy to find a drama with a lead actress as the main character, and she has a very good character. All the characters in this drama are great and all the actors & actresses are amazing! I think that's what kept me going to finish this drama.

But truthfully, until like 8th episode, I started to feel like everything is too forced. Like there are too many coincidences happened that lead to either good things (like finding the bad guys, the evidence, etc) or even the bad things. Which made me bore a bit cause they don't really have like that "smart" move or strategy that makes you go "wow" :/ And also I started to skip some parts from the 11th episode lol. I don't find the story is amazing as well. and there's no plot twist that makes you go like "HELL NO".

I just felt like i needed to write this review cause i'm kinda disappointed :/ And also if you're expecting a romance, i'm telling you there's no romance except for the last 20 minutes on the last episode :)

mylene Dec 06 2017 10:55 pm i just finish watching this drama and wow! there were no boring moment! the lead were oozing with chemistry. i enjoyed this drama from start to finish, i love the ending. i was just wondering if Cho Gab soo is Ma Yi Deum's father? anyway this drama is one of the best drama i watch this year. what i love here is that they did not overdone the romance. it was toned down that it made me anticipate every scene between the lead. i just hate super cheesy love/ romance between the lead. Each actors performed their character well especially the lead and the villain. i hope to see more like this drama with good storyline and a well acted characters. this drama is Daebak!!!!

LL Nov 29 2017 9:40 am I just finished watching this drama. I'm happy that the ratings went up as it progressed. Witch's Court is certainly one of the best KDramas this year. And can I just say how much I appreciate it having no unnecessary flashback scenes? Good job with the writers, PDnims and producers!

I love how witty and unique the main character, Ma Yi Deum, is. She's strong and stubborn, but also shows vulnerability. Well balanced character imo; well played out, Jung Ryeo Won! Yeo Jin Wook is an interesting character, but I wish they utilized more of him being a prosecutor and psychiatrist at the same time. I believe he's more of a supporting character that made a huge impact on Ma Yi Deum. Anyway, good job once again Yoon Hyun Min! And our antagonist, Choo Gap Soo...You have to agree that Jeon Kwang Leol is damn good. I was honestly scared of his character. To think someone like that is capable of even killing his trusted friend and "servant". Just shows how greedy he is.

There's a lot that I appreciate about this drama. For e.g. not a lot of cliche, all scenes are important and relevant, no fillers if I remember correctly.

TL;DR: Excellent drama! You won't regret watching it. But if you're after just romance or love stories, this isn't for you ;)

After the story progressed, I'm glad that everyone has seen her charm. With only two episodes left, I'm hoping for an epic conclusion to the ChoGapSoo case and an equally romantic moment for the two main leads. :)

George Nov 05 2017 4:10 am I've seen lot of suspense drama that are related mostly to this one's storyline. I thought they are all alike. Well perhaps they maybe but there is something on this plot that I'm so much addicted to. Maybe the love interest between the two lead. They have a great chemistry. And indeed I find it cute.. The age gap never really matters on this drama because of how well the both leads portray their skills. Moreover.. the cases are well delivered though their are flaws sometimes.

Yoon Hyun Min and Jung Ryeo Won do not disappoint with their acting and chemistry. They keep scenes fun, serious and romantic. The story, although basic, is elevated into a unique tone with the writing and setting...and guess what? The story progresses!!! Each episode gives us something new and makes me want Monday to come quicker. Even the setting does a great job in setting the tone of each scene (it also showcases the personality of the character i.e Yi Deum's house VS. Jin Wook's house). Then the music just comes in and adds even more suspense, hilarity and excitement! This show is a gem of fall 2017.

I could go on for a while explaining why I like this show, but it wouldn't do any good unless you watch it for yourself!

Her cunningness, her temper, her wittiness, and the way she kicks the shin!! Way to go my girl. This is a type of female lead that I have been looking for all along! She is just awesome. N our cute prosecutor Yeo. Awwww he is soo cute n lovable.. The look on his face when she kiss him in epi 6? Love the way how Ma di yeum character is developing From a helpless child who lost her mother to kickass prosecutor. That scene where she grows up while walking through the tunnel her her mother’s posters were hung was really heart touching. The emotional turmoil she underwent while growing up is clearly shown in this scene. On and all I highly recommend this drama

And how they build the tension between the two leads is just great. Those simple scenes between Yi Deum and Jin Wook got me screaming!

It's still in its 6th ep and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. What happened to Ma Yi Deum's mom? Omg, I can only speculate but I'm sure it'll hurt her so much T__T

There is so much thrill and suspense, and the fact they've managed to keep us engaged 5 episodes in speaks volumes. I love how the plot is developing and absolutely cannot wait for tomorrow. People need to appreciate this masterpiece more!

But I need to control myself not to watch it from ep 5 because it will kill me waiting weekly like what happened to me in defendant.

pueo Oct 17 2017 6:31 pm Confused as to why some here are upset about her methods/style. A prosecuting attorney is the ALLY and VOICE of the VICTIM in the legal system.

A suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt...BUT, once probable cause is determined and/or the suspect is indicted, it's the prosecutor's DUTY to the victim and the people to use his/her best efforts and abilities through ALL legal methods to prove this in court. On the flip side, the defense counsel has the same duty to defend his/her client by the same means.

Regarding @Atty's nonsensical comments about money, prosecutors are only mid-level government civil servants on a salary. And in S.Korea and most jurisdictions like where I live, they aren't paid much for what they do...unlike defense attorneys and corporation counsels in the private sector.

I, for one, would welcome more hard-nosed and aggressive prosecutors like her to mitigate the chance of criminals walking, e.g., OJ.

riri Oct 15 2017 7:35 am Did i just read a comment where someone said ra deum as a prosecutor only cares about money from clients? First of all, pretty sure prosecutors dont have clients. They work for the justice system aka the court and prosecutes those who are accused of committing crimes.

Her job is to make sure those accused of committing crimes are proven guilty and put behind bars. You might say she's cold or rude, but she's doing her job!

I don't see her doing this for money, more like it was the right thing to do and the evidence says it all. Do you even see her in designer clothes, she can't even pay her rent! She's just really objective, which is what a prosecutor is. They're supposed to be neutral in every situation and to reveal the truth no matter how bad it is. That's why hearings take place. Really though, I realize how people hate female leads who have such a strong character but praise male leads for having just the same. This double standard sickens me.

It diminishes the role of prosecutors in the society — downgrading them to people who just want to take money from their clients without even fighting for justice. She been a prosecutor for a while and that confidence made sense. However, I do feel that she will change from seeing more stories (about other patients and her mom) to be a better person and uses her skill more wisely.
