Plot

"Maybe" is a love story / road movie about a man who suffers from a rare heart disease and a woman who’s searching for her past using the scar on her shoulder.

Jilli Jun 24 2021 3:31 pm Wow this movie is so under-rated. I absolutely loved it, even though I could figure out how the plot would end up from rather early on. Yuri Sung looked at her most beautiful in this film, whoever the cinematographer was she should use him on any future film or drama shoots she makes. Jang Hyuk gives a good performance, too, he made me tear up at times. I bought this on DVD so I would have a copy always.

Irene A Fredricks Jun 25 2015 8:07 am I was looking for some korean drama's since Im half korean. I saw this on amazon and rented the movie from their. I just love it, and it made me very sad. I was hopeing that he was able to find a cure and live happyly ever after. I only seen a short msg of what the movie was about. Is it to my understanding that he is her brother ?

Beezus Feb 24 2015 12:38 pm Someone posted that May's character is "unbelievable from a non-Asian's point of view" because May was unresponsive and unfriendly to the driver and that this "sets a bad stereotype of Americans." Americans come in all types of personalities and moods (sometimes the same person can have many in one day). I do understand that there can be cultural differences regarding how loud to speak in public, etc., but that's not what's at issue here. Besides, even if we use that as an example , while a lot do, ALL Americans won't speak loudly in public; likewise, not ALL will be overly friendly and inquisitive of their cab driver. Especially considering May was not there to sightsee but to find her parents. Add to that, I think the film alluded to May coming from abusive adoptive parents (hiding in the closet "makes things not so bad"). So May doesn't fit the stereotype of the typical American tourist. Also, since she speaks Korean so fluently (as is mentioned in the film) possibly her adoptive parents may have been Korean-American and raised her in Korean culture as well as American.

From May's point of view, the driver is a stranger in a strange land who stalks her and ignored her instructions of where to take her. I would've contacted the police the first time he invaded my space so to refer to May's character as unbelievable because she didn't want to answer a stranger's probative and personal questions is ridiculous.

Incwia Feb 16 2014 9:46 am This is a beautiful piece of art. People don't seem to realize how beautiful this movie is. I watched this movie a really long time ago but just saw this on a website again and the OST still makes my heart flutter.

I'm looking for the maybe ost since i watched this but i still don't find it ^^' Anyone knows where i can find it?

Paul Holmes Apr 26 2013 3:42 pm Great cinematography, nicely cut, and pretty, but the girl's character was just unbelievable to me as a non-Asian American. I understand this was done for a Korean audience and I could understand her accent at the beginning not being really American, but it was her personality that I just couldn't buy. There was no reason given why she acted like such a snob. Yes, she may have been personally burdened by sadness about her past but is that a reason for her to act like such a jerk with the cab driver? She never talks, she always seems to have a chip on her shoulder -- it just failed the believability test for me!

If this is the way an American Korean girl comes back to Korea to search for her birth parents Koreans might be justified in thinking American culture just makes them into snobs. Well, that's just not true, having known many Asian-Americans over the years.

The story idea was great (who the cab driver turns out to be in the end) but I just couldn't buy into her character. The actress seems to be fine but I feel sorry for the script they gave her. On the other hand, the cab driver was nicely and believably portrayed.

ashnic6294 Apr 17 2013 6:39 pm I just finished watching this on netflix... I thought it was good, but it was very confusing... Like there were parts I understood throughout the movie until it reached the end... It never really gave into the two main characters' pasts; which wasn't completely needed, but could have been a little helpful. It might have had an odd movie, but I did like it though. It was nice...

Shaun Aug 04 2012 9:49 pm Good Acting without a strong enough story and an indulgent directors cut-style obtuse ending. The feelings never congeal completely. Emotions are expressed for the sake of drama. A typical 'world in a box' styled drama, where characters aren't allowed the depth of a full past. We dont' know this girl, while she has a family in Manhatten, and apparently was given a good well provided life, the film forces her to be devoid of human contact and any realistic normal interaction with other people. Has she no close friends who check in on her? Are her parents not concerned if she had a safe flght? Why did'n't she phone before arriving on a stranges doorstep? The story makes little sense. The ending is an insult to the audience.
