A detective thinks about quitting his job. He takes on a female university student murder case that was disguised as a suicide. The detective becomes obsessed with solving the case. He has a young sister and she meets a man. The man does not remember when he was little. He is not a good person, but she has sympathy for him. The detective tries to push the man away from his younger sister. The detective suspects that the man is somehow involved in the female university student murder case. The man and the detective's younger sister fall in love.

Alma Nov 02 2022 10:21 pm The chemistry is undeniable- 101% overflowing chemistry of the main lead… great acting for both in-guk and so-min.. even i know the sad ending i got the courage to watch until the end because of the great acting of this two.. i appreciate the story and even the ending … i cried when they broke-up but didnt cry on the ending.. maybe because everything gets clear in the end and they even got the chance to tell each other the word “i love you” … in the very end they both want to live and love..

jjjjjj Sep 19 2022 9:42 pm ive been wanting to watch this drama when this was already completed but was spoiled with the ending so i backed out. then i got addicted to somin's acting in AOS and is currently watching almost all of her past dramas (rewatched the others too). Then here I am so affected with this drama after watching. I love how both somin and inguk let us feel the emotions of their characters. Their acting is just superb, I can feel their emotions just by looking at their eyes. Their love, sadness, longing. I am more heartbroken with this drama than aos. Their chemistry is just soooo strong and real and it got me hooked and get this heartbroken with the ending. It's sad but at least they are still together. It's just sad that they have this deep love then was ruined by the circumstances of their past. I will surely rewatch this in the future.

The story had me hooked, but the stabbing at the end of episode11 was something I just didn't want to happened. I know that this is headed someplace bad and I just don't want to go there. Maybe I will come back to it later, when my mood is different, but not now. Retribution is on its way, I can sense it, but I have an appointment in Samara.

The way they stared at each other tells many emotions, doesn't need words to express what they want to say. The ending was tragic but I'm satisfied with it. They deserved each other even in the afterlife. A must watch. Tear jerking. Prepare tissues if you plan to watch. I can't moved on after I watched this series.

Seo In guk portrays his role/ character with expressions through his eyes. He didn't have to say anything, his eyes did the taking for him and proves that he's such a great actor!! kdrama lover Jun 13 2021 3:32 am the reason why i dont like this drama is kim moo young did the same thing as his father.His father was a good father and a good husband but his wife was into cult and he could"nt control his anger and killed her :( and kim moo young did the same, he also instead of controlling his anger he killed jang se ran .he should have learn the lesson from his father"s past but instead he did the same. :( If he would have not killed her, he might be able to leave a peaceful life with yoo jin kang :( His mistake took many people"s life.Some died physically and some died mantally :(

People should really watch this drama its such a masterpiece and so underrated.

If not then this is not for you and might ruin your life. I really like how the stories of their past unravel slowly throughout the drama as the characters learn more so that we are not the only ones in the know. Seo In Guk had already proven what a great actor he is, but this drama will leave you in awe with his brilliance especially how he showcases his emotions with his eyes alone. I've rewatched this countless times and every single time Moo Young would flash a sweet smile with a murderous stare, my heart would literally skip a beat.

I hope that more people would give this drama a try especially now that In Guk's Dooms at Your Service is receiving attention. Finally, they've woken up from sleeping on this multi-talented man.

But this isn't about Kim Moo Young alone. The entire cast is perfect. Every character has depth and significance. All the scenes in The Smile Has Left Your Eyes are well-written and well-acted.

The storyline is exactly the same, only different actors, languages, and places. I'm sure the korean audience knows the original drama. So they are not so enthusiastic about watching the Korean version anymore. (Sorry, it's just my opinion)

Seo in guk dominated this drama and really did an amazing job in telling the story of the male lead perfectly. I felt every emotion through his eyes. This was truly a beautiful drama especially in a time where its hard to find dramas that can tell a beautiful love story without terrible and over used cliches. 10/10.

And the resultant themes that drive the narrative are as ancient as storytelling: secrets, love, sex, jealousy, class, revenge, manipulation: and especially the sins of the fathers (and brother) landing straight on the heads of the children who deserved none of it.

Writing, direction, and cast are all excellent, though I did shave off a point because there are some questionable plot decisions. That said, the series belongs to SEO IN GUK who is extraordinary. This is one of the best Korean series I've seen, and he is an incredibly gifted actor--now one of my favorites, though as superb as the cast is, Seo In-Guk is working on a different level that no acting class can teach: he simply becomes the character and breaks your heart. For as one commenter wrote, this drama is not for the faint of heart: it is a complex, mature story that will cause both joy and anguish in viewers--will steadily pull in every emotional direction, right through the conclusion, where I sat stunned. But I was grateful for the experience of this drama.

the story is great. every episode keeps wanting you for more. i didn't have enough sleep for 3 days because of this. hahaha.

i will give a 10 claps for the lead actors. they did very well. (except for Jin Kang since episode 9-15. i don't know why but it seems off to me. in onr scene, she needs to cry but there's no tear in her eyes. i don't like the part that she always this kind of attitude where she's talking back to her older bro. hello, its for your own good. but all in all, i like them)

this kdrama is one of the dramas that i will recommend to watch.

i pitty Kim Moo Young the most. :(

and the last part. haaaay. Mr. Yoo breaks my heart. (Jin Kang's older bro) and most specially Jin Kang and Moo Young. i don't know when will i move on to this.

PS: don't expect cheesy things in this drama. i think this is a serious one. you will feel the emotions of the characters. pain, sorrow, fear, trust, hope, how to be strong despite of the problems, it's okay to be weak sometimes, acceptance and most specially, the true love. i will leave it here. It's truly the Romeo and Juliet story of this generation and the tragedy makes it so much more memorable and touching. If you loved seeing Werewolf boy the Korean film then this is the drama for you. Olus the actors all deserve awards because they really nail their characters and it's a complete new look into how beautifully diverse Seo In guk is as an actor! I'm very proud of this drama and I would 100% recommend it!

jms Jan 24 2019 9:58 pm I've watched a handful of dramas, but this one is the first I did not enjoy. First 8 ep are fine and paced well, after that it goes downhill.

Multiple flashback scenes, a bunch convenient plot points, that don't make sense. Drama generally ignoring crimes like stabbing and breaking and entering.They happen and are completely ignored. Characters dying for little reason, other than to bring main cast characters together.

If this was a shorter drama, it would be much better imo. So much of the story is dragged on.

I freaking love this drama so much, this drama is so beautiful and sad at the same time. I watched more than half of the drama and I came here to read the reviews wow when I read that it'll be a sad ending wow my heart literally dropped. Kinda expected it but wow wanted to drop this drama cos I can't see my Moo Young and Jin Kang not end up happily ever after :( But the drama is so good I cannot stop myself from watching it. Although MY is not a good person but my lil heart breaks for him and I just wanna say Im still angry that JK reject eating cake w MY like its his bday cmon my lil boy was so sad :(

I can’t even expressed it with writing.. both of you need to be in a drama together again soon!! The chemistry surpassed any real life couple out there(at least of me) I’ve watched the japanese version before, and can tell you I’m terrified waiting for the korean remake ending.. And here i am.. completed 16 episodes of HMSFTS. before i continue, this is a SPOILER———

The ending is not what i wanted, but it is what most of us expected.. I wanted him to turn himself in, she waited him until he completed his sentence, then they will be together in the end, but sadly it follows the japanese version ending- both leads died, but in the different way. And this one I’m glad they change it.. It means that love isn’t cruel. They died while loving each others, not hatred. So we can expect or imagine they both were together afterlife. Happily i hope. Isn’t it nice, u die knowing somebody loving you? (I’m trying my very best to be positive here :,( But nevertheless this is one of the epic melodrama I’ve ever watched.. it’s good.really really good.. excellent storyline, it keep you under your feet every episode.. the writer really did a good job.. usually the remake drama is sucks.. but not with this one. It just wow!!!! The roller coaster drama they gave us, the romance, the thrill.. i wished it never ended.. worth your time!! Now i wished Seo In Guk and Jung So Min will have a drama again together..

It's so well acted and written and adapted from the Japanese version into it's own Korean amazing flare. Every second I was invested thanks to the entire cast but I have to admit Seo In Guk stole the show with his intense eyes and terrific acting. He is so diverse and his skills are impeccable! If you love a great suspense Romantic drama that low key reminds me of Shakespeare then you have to witness this masterpiece.

I knew that damn witch was fooling him and they weren’t siblings after all and that was a relief, but I hoped that would mean that they would be together now, or.. more like moo young would go to jail, and she would wait for him... it wouldn’t have to be a happy ending, but this ending did not feel complete.. it just felt like PANG and they are gone... i feel like they rushed it and that is why i did not even really cry in the end, i just felt a stinge of sadness but mostly i felt dissapointed. Ofcourse, this is a drama, a drama were whatever could happen. I just hoped, and wished for something else... something “more”... not just.. and they are gone..

I cried so much and felt so many emotions. It really touched my heart and ticks all my boxes. I love everything about it and i really really really hope i find another drama exactly like it. The love seems so pure yet the story is so toxic. There are so many twists and turns but thats why i love it so muchm it definitely is the best drama i ahve ever watched and believe me ive watched a lot. Although other dramas were amazing too, this was the only drama that fully satisfied me and for that i am i grateful.

This drama deals with the different ways human beings of different ages deal with traumas that have profoundly shaped their entire lives. The story builds upon a powerfully traumatic combination of events that occurred 25 years ago, but which we do not know in any detail. . At the center of the drama are three major characters.

Kim Moo-Yeong is an exceptionally bright, lonely, intense young man in his early 30s. He grew up in an orphanage. His cool, totally detached ways of looking at people and dealing with them was shaped by a powerful traumatic event during his early childhood that his memory has totally erased, except for the confusing shreds of a few images. Moo-Yeong is extremely quick at penetrating the weaknesses of others and then seems to follows his own moral code. At every moment, he seems to be balancing on the threshold of self-destruction and the ways of a gangster. He can also be totally cold and ruthless in the way he deals with women who cross his path. And he is also fearless in dealing with his bosses. Yet, he is usually liked and trusted by his co-workers. Moo-Yeong's ruthlessness contrasts with the warm memory he keeps of the nuns who raised him in the orphanage. Kim Moo-Yong is superbly played by Seo In-Guk (서인국). Seo's acting is outstanding in the truth, power and manly charm he gives to his character.

Yoo Jin-Guk (played by Park Sung-Woong) is a talented yet rigid senior police officer posted in Seoul whose professional life was permanently affected by the fact that when he was a 24 year-old posted in the small town of Hainan and he shot and killed a murderer while on duty. Yoo constantly blames himself for what he sees as a profound professional failure. His behavior has affected his police career and his relations with some other senior police officers . Two decades later YJG who I now well into his forties still lives as a bachelor with his second sister Yoo Jin-Kang after their mother passed away. The older Yoo sister left for the U.S. at that time when Jin-Kang was in middle-school. Very close to Yoo Jin-Guk is Tak So-Jun a divorced senior police woman (Jang Young-Nam, 장영남) who is very interested in Yoo Jin-Gook. She also knows the details and the context of the gun shooting. But Tak keeps these facts to herself for the sake of social harmony and peace.

You Jin-Kang (beautifully played by Jung So-Min, 정소민) is a warm, level- headed, strong and artistically talented professional who works for a small interior design company. Her work eventually brings Jin-Kang into contact with the Stars specialty brewery where Kim Moo-Young is working and that is being purchased by an agressive business group.

Jin-Kang found out that she is an adopted orphan when her older sister left for America, but she never told her older brother about it. She has much affection and deep respect for Yoo Jin-Guk who is so devoted to her and is taking care so well of the orphan she is.

The story begins when senior officer You Jin-Guk (YJG) re-investigates the murder of a female student who was ready to go study in the US and was pushed from the top of a building during a wild party. In the process, YJG encounters Kim Moo-Young whom he quickly considers to be a dangerous individual.

The love that Yoo Jing-Kang develops for Kim Moo-Young to whom initially Moo-Yong reacts coolly in his usual ways is superbly acted by actress Chung So-Min. Both actors deserve awards for their powerful, subtle and convincing performances.

The screenwriting and the dialogues are of the highest quality. Every word counts and resonates. Every episode is convincing. The entire drama focuses on the slow, peacemeal unraveling of the truth behind what happened 25 years ago. The untying of the entire story in the final episode has credible, well laid-out foundations.

This is painful love story between two young people who were so traumatized in their childhoods. Jin-Kang unwavering love and determination to now make Moo-Young into a good person and Moo-Young fitful, worrisome responses keep you on edge. At the end of the story, I was struck how the unexpected climactic conclusion left me at peace.

Thank you to the director, the screenwriter, the actors, the photographers, the music composer, the singers and everyone. I would be very disappointed if this drama does not receive major awards. Especially Seo In-Guk and Jung So-Min!

Seo in Guk is phenomenal actor, and I couldn't think of someone else to play the role. He was mysterious yet warm, calculating yet caring, and Jung So Min played a phenomenal balance to Seo in Guk's character, and I want to see them in more dramas together. Overall a well written, well acted drama and the cinematography was stunning!

The drama contain melodrama, thriller, mystery, and romance at the same time. Maybe i sound exaggerating but you will feel the same after watching this drama. The actors and the actress did really perfect job (especially the main actor Seo In Guk and the main actres Jung So Min). The chesmistry between every actors and actress like real. When i watching this drama i almost forgot i was watching a drama, not a reality. The background music, the original sound track also perfect!! I just speechless. Never been into to it to drama. All every aspect to this drama should win award!!!

The Koreans are more optimistic in a way and used the theme of the “power of love” to heal all of them. They gave the plot a different twist in the final episodes. They have already given the viewers a glimpse of this twist in episode 15. Can’t wait to watch episode 16 to find out the resolution. This, so far, is the best Korean drama I have ever watched. Everything was executed well — from the choice of cast and the delivery of all the actors, the cinematography, the music, the editing, directing and the screenplay. Unlike most Korean dramas I have seen, this drama is not very hysterical. The lines are less and a lot of the acting is seen with their eyes. When they speak, every word is meaningful. This drama deserves awards, in my opinion.

Even though the plot is very much the same as the Japanese version, this rendition is sooo brilliantly done. Even scene, especially ones between SIG and JSM are so well done! I have fallen in love with Seo In Guk as an actor through this drama. This is definitely one of the best TvN dramas I have ever watched! The chemistry between the characters are so intense. I am also happy that this drama follows it's original plot instead of forcing a happy ending. It will be the most mesmerizing going the tragic way.

Skorea often sleeps on good drama, usually its more hyped internationally, like this for example. The chemistry between the main leads is very strong, you’ll never get enough of the both of them. (so min acting is so good sometimes i forgot she’s dating irl lmao can they two just date)

But what really annoys me to the max is Jin Kang’s brother is annoying af. I get his point of view. But the brother beat around the bush all the time, yelling at her, even threatening her that he raised her all these while yet she wont listen to him. Like ffs, tell her the reason why she cant date Moo Young if you’re gonna act that way.

Memories that was forgotton to be able to participate in the present world, his hiden pain that looses its course in every firm decision he makes even it causes his life to stand up for he believe is right for him.

EPISODE 10 SPOILER WARNING (Weighs me down to know all this info I cant handle on my own)

So, episode 10.. I am just sitting here nearly melting from how lovely Seo In Guk and Jung Min are together... I really hope that what Moo Young said turns out to be true, and he really is not the ”missing boy”, and that the dream he had was from seeing Jin Kang’s dad being shot by Jin Gook which means that Jin Kang and Moo Young won’t be siblings... (would be awkward if they find out later that they were biological siblings after all that happend between them) but it kills me to find out about how Jin Kang’s dad was shot by Jin Gook. My Theory is that Jin Gook had a valid reason to shoot him, but consider the dad did not run away or make any resistance it feels like how could he have a valid reason for shooting him? This drama makes me feel so many emotions I can not cope! I wont be able to stand these coming dayyyssss!! D: someone else who can relate?

Every aspect of this drama series was done so well -- from the screenplay, to the storyline, the actors, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the direction, the execution, etc. It moves and affects you in a slow, quiet way. It is not loud nor hysterical yet you can feel the emotions in each scene. I typically fast forward many Korean dramas I have watched in the past, especially when you know they are just stretching the scenes to have more airtime. But with this particular drama, you want to savor each episode, listen to each and every word they utter and the beautiful music which is played at the perfect time in the most appropriate scene. I could not stop myself from watching the Japanese version because I got so curious with the ending. (Warning: spoilers ahead) Though the original version is beautiful in itself, I must say that the development and execution of the Korean version as a whole is much better. I think the Korean version was able to explain the internal conflicts and emotions of each of the main characters better. And I think I feel very sad as I watch each episode of the Korean version because I dread the tragic ending from the original Japanese drama. I highly recommend this drama.

It lingers inside you after each episode and you keep looking forward to

I love the actors so much. they each played their role so well that I became immersed each second! I haven't watched the Japanese version so I have no preconceived ideas but after his I might watch the Jap version too. but I hate having to wait every week :( I am always on my toes and at the edge of my seat with the main charcter. he is so mysterious and probably a sociopath. but that's what makes him so intriguing. the main girl fits her part to well. im so happy she got the role. the detective is one of my favourite actors! he is so versatile and really knows how to act lol (I know that sounds weird). anyway this is a roller coaster of events, feelings, characters and mysteries. even if you dont like this kind of plot usually, I think this drama is too good to skip. i will for sure rewatch it (after a few months of course) after im done.

Im currently on Episode 6: I didn’t watch original version so I got no idea of the drama flow. The only thing thats clear for now is both KMY YJK are orphan.

The following would be my guess. When KMY had that family photo drawing, there were a mom dad and 2 kids and I felt like YJK is his sister? Plus the fact that YJK has kept a missing flyer of supposedly young KMY, the other kid who survived from a burning house, which explains the scar of MY and JK.

And look when Detective LKC told YJG that he made YJK name be fit to his, like his hinting YJG only changed the sequence of her name. From Kang Yoo Jin to Yoo Jin Kang (Kang is more likely a family name, which bothered me from the first episode). And Kim Moo young could be a Kang instead of Kim.

And remember MY said he felt like he have known JK since a long time (when YJK asked about the other time he met her when she only remembers seeing him twice), if they are not orphans mates from their (same) hometown then they could be siblings.

I’m getting chills and teary now! I don’t want this kind of tragic love story. Loving each other romantically but found out your blood related is more tragic than any other forbidden love story!

If I don’t get it right then I just hope this amazing story has better plot than giving us a cliche love story from their childhood and met again like a destiny. Since its a remake then they can change the twist based on viewers demands, anything is good to me as long as its not tragic nor plain.

Note: I wrote this suspecting them to be siblings when MY showed the family picture drawing, wasn’t really that suspicious but as I wrote this I get more connections that could strengthen the possibility.

pretty_shenanigans Oct 30 2018 3:07 am I’ve come to a point where I don’t like mystery/thriller/heavy dramas anymore because it only makes me anxious, upset, and afraid of the outcome. And so I only watch light romantic comedy dramas now which will make the viewers happy, in love and relaxed.

However, I gave Hundred Million Stars from the Sky a try because of Seo In Guk whom I love dearly – without great expectations because it’s not my kind of genre. BUUUT this drama just draws me in. From someone who has not watched the Japanese yet, the plot might seem predictable at first but will prove you wrong every time.

The actors are great and the BGMs are on point. The suspense is so high but still has the right amount of heart-fluttering scenes which make me smile from time to time. It really keeps me wanting for more episodes and wish that Thurs and Fri (for subbed eps) come faster.

Bravo also to SIG for effectively portraying Kim Moo-Young - irritating and frightening but charming and pitiful all at once.

Looking forward to a happy ending. ❤

This heart pounding feeling of needing to know if he's really bad or good! Gosh Seo In-Guk at his finest! "the eyes"!!! He is surely the perfect person to portray Moo Young though I am fervently hoping that he's not a bad guy!

I kid you not I have watched the last six episodes three times each!!! Didn’t see the J version so am watching this with fresh eyes and an open mind. TvN have another winner on their hands regardless of how the ratings fare over in SK.

something Oct 06 2018 2:38 pm i fell in love with the drama by watching its 1st & 2nd eps, then i hunted the Japan version out of curiosity. the original version is undoubtedly lit! though my interest in this story began with Seo In Guk & Jung So Min Chemistry, but i've to admit that Ryo & Yuko (Japan version) Chemistry is something you'll never forget once you watch it....... looking forward on how the korean version will bring the story, and i 100% believe in SIG & JSM~!

oh well, i just can hope that Korean version won't follow 100% Japan version plot. Jebal.....

beans Oct 06 2018 6:18 am This remake is very Captain Obvious. Huge spoiler in the press conference, then more spoilers in episode 2. Pretty disappointing, and the acting feels flat, especially now that they're playing the Moo-young character straight. I didn't see any chemistry between the leads either. Seo In-guk does a lot of that squinty eyes thing like a thwarted child, makes it hard to take him seriously.

That said, how many times must we change out our bookmarks because of this silly nonsense with literal and English titles differing so much? Dear Judge-Dear Honor, Hundred Million Stars-Smile Has Left Your Eyes, the upcoming Yeo Jin Goo show, Prison Playbook-Wise Prison Life etc... I keep thinking a(nother) new drama/movie has been lined up for this or that star but it just ends up being more stuff to uncluttered from my browser.

I do like the cast and I agree that they are all amazing actors, but I am more looking forward to Park Sung-Woong (He is as old as my parents) because all the dramas and movies he is in are superb.I just finished Life on Mars with him and I really loved that drama and all the actors on it. While I do like romantic stuff I lean more on action, crime, mystery and historical settings. Anyways can't wait for the drama.

LKB Jun 06 2018 8:13 am All things tvN get my attention, and all things SIG get my attention, so I will absolutely be glued to the screen, at least metaphorically, for this show! I love how SIG transforms every single role, so much that his face looks like he is 10 years older or younger from expressions he makes (younger in the case of Shopping King) and like a different person entirely...his eyes are so expressive and he has SUCH great control of his facial muscles, maybe from singing so much, and indeed he is another underrated super talent! Jeong So Min would be a super match-she also is skilled and distinct looking (though not exactly unique since she looks so much like Yoon Eun Hye to me, so much as she settles into her adult face that in Because This is My First Life I thought it was the Coffee Prince in the role!!
