sandra robinson May 29 2021 1:49 pm I absolutely loved the story of Mr sunshine I cannot tell you how much it was truly a beautifully written story for a movie I call it a movie.

It was well casted. I love the way you made the audience yearn for some affection to be exchanged between them both as opposed to to just the man having feelings for the lady. But I didn't like the way he was killed off at the end on the train.

I thought it was sad that the swordsman, who held onto the hem of the lady, didn't manage to embrace the love that was around him; the fortune teller or the lady at the hotel.

However it was beautifully filmed and and it carries you all the way to the end. Brilliant!

I have just finished watching the king eternal monarch and I thought it was absolutely confusing at times but as I got used to it it it was absolutely brilliant it was well casted and Lee min-ho he was absolutely stunning. Perfect choice as the King. Everyone was well cosseted. I am a sucker for romantic scenes and I love the way that they warmed up to each other.

Please why did you come up with the idea for writing about time travel?

Sally Mar 06 2021 2:09 am Positively he best screen writer in k dramas. Her themes are so varied and the scripts witty, romantic and daring. She only relies on cliche when it is called for. I love so many of her shows, especially Secret Garden, The Heirs and especially Mr Sunshine, but many others. My least favourite is King Eternal Monarch, you couldn’t pull it off with the same charters being in the 2 time eras, too confusing and silly, let you down. Female lead miscast although she’d been in Guardian.

A great writer, I am waiting for the next one. I just love your work. There is a delicacy about the dialogue and always an unexpected twist of humour or guilt or love or courage. Bravo, you are fantastic.

Joanne M Simmarano Feb 18 2021 6:31 pm Dear Ms Kim I have to tell as I sit here and watch various dramas I must tell that My favorites are thus far The King Eternal Monarch next Mr. Sunshine and third Guardian The Lonely. I fell in love with your work After initially viewing Heirs starring Lee Minho. I have a habit of viewing certain pieces I like a few times. I always get more out of a series watching it again and I truly enjoy episodes a second time around. Mr Sunshine I just loved this historical piece. I’ve learned so much about the Joseon era. The struggles and passion of the Korean people. I think I’ve watched It 4x’s at least and each time with a box of Kleenex. Ty for that piece. The King was amazing Lee Minho has matured and evolved as a young actor which is evident in this series. This is my Valentines Day special. I am now viewing for the third time Goblin with Kim Go Eun. I have a strong feeling because of her performance in this series gave way to her costarring with LMH in The King. Her ability to connect with her viewer (who by the way does not speak Korean and watch’s with English Subtitles) is quite an amazing and talented actress. She drew me in immediately . Without her I don’t believe The King would have been a success as it were. They way she is able to emote on the screen is crazy. So very did a bit of research and I wanted to see who the screenwriter was for these series I’ve come to love. Low and behold it was you. Your style is evident in the series I’ve mentioned down to some of the music used which was similar in Goblin and King. So you are aware I started watching kdramas a year ago the beginning s if the pandemic. I needed to help myself with the anxiety and fear of it all which viewing these has helped. So thank you and. Renwa Feb 11 2021 12:15 am I seriously hope my comments can be given to Screenwriter. I have so enjoyed and admire the work of Screenwriter Kim Eun-Sook. Watching any of her projects draws me into a world I could not have imagined but one my imagination faithfully travels with the screenwriter. As an audience member, I eagerly stepped into the worlds of The King, Guardian, Descendants, & Secret Garden...enjoying them all. Bravo to all the actors, directors & production team members for their artistry. I now come to Mr.Sunshine which haunts me and not in a good way. My response to the ending was not mere sadness. I literally sobbed for weeks at the thought of the ending & cannot justify it in my head & heart. It’s not a documentary but a creative product. The character development was beautifully portrayed for the 3 male leads. So why such an gruesome sad ending? I tend to watch dramas over & over again but can never return to Mr. Sunshine lest I start sobbing again. Sorry for this extreme statement, but I felt abused as an audience member by the ending. Why did you do it Screenwriter Kim Eun-Sook?

True that it is a sad story but the intricacies of the whole story write-up & wrap up is really beautiful & mesmerizing. I couldn’t have imagine how you could link every part of the story & people historically. Awesome. The dynamics of each historical backgrounds intertwined with the downfall of the joseon dynasty brought about the introduction of a new social structure & strata of the modern society. The political, social & economic struggles were clearly seen in the traditional & conservative society & how that too changed as the country developed & progressed thru times. Sometimes....the war & struggles we go thru needs to be seen in a different limelight. Hard it may seems, but fruitful it will be....for the betterment of the nation. The country changed, the people changed. The people changed, the country changed. Bravo for writing such a wonderful story & telling us that in our historical Struggles & downfall, there are always victories for some. And no one man’s death goes in vain.

You should write a play on doctors keeping in mind Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun as lead actors. As Min Ho wanted to be a ballad singer and Go Eun wanted to be a doctor as said in one of their interviews. A classy couple to designate the act, with all their emotions and eye contact.

MARIA Sep 13 2020 5:37 am I just started watching Korean dramas this year such as Mr Sunshine and The King ( Eternal Monarch ). As a non- Korean, I must say I am impressed and have fallen in love with Korean dramas. The actors are very good and more importantly the strong themes on sacrifice, true love ,loyalty , respect and "good over evil" are powerful messages that satisfies the soul .I could watch them again. Congrats Kim Eun Sook and keep up writing wholesome stories/wisdom stories which you rarely find in Western television/movies.

Please write a sequel to One Spring Night, I would like to know if Park Yeong-jae passes the civil servant exam and does he and Lee Jae-in stay together:-). magne Jun 11 2020 12:51 pm I've been watching TKEM every Friday and it was great! during the first episodes, it made me puzzled bcoz of diffrent scenarios, but it was getting clearer when ep. 7 aired till the current episode.. You amazed me on how you plot the story inquisitively from a broader to specific events... Though, TKEM might be a not so happy ending, but the fact that the story is constructed very well, it is entertaining and make sense... Hoping for more k-series from ur handworks and actor limeenho..

24cast May 02 2020 9:52 pm All her dramas have very good plots which can leave you totally dumbfounded at its greatness whenever the episode ends but... even though the situation and story line are different, the characters are mostly all the same. the main male lead will always be a very superior manly guy oozing his charisma, but always with a sad past. the main female lead will always be a girl, quite strong yet falls short of her significant other in terms of portraying her profession. in fact, the male lead is the one mostly given attention. I do admit that her plots are really high class and really worth the attention but i do think maybe the next one could have different personalities.

Sheila Jan 30 2020 4:28 am I'm stunned by the beautifully crafted story line and script for Mr. Sunshine. I think that is the best part of the whole drama. Even better than all of the gorgeous cinematography and the painstakingly put-together sets and costuming, and some really outstanding acting.

It just starts to mess everything and the characters turn into naggy personalities. or the story turns extra slow... and somehow you can't watch it anymore. no matter how hard you try and give your self some time to watch it at another time...It just doesn't work. and I heard this from several of my friends as well. Descendants of the Sun was a complete made-up story with zero reliability. all the medical story was copied from greys anatomy. The Military part was like a fantasy war! Guardian was like that... the whole melodrama and tragedy was stupid. why should the main female character become a naggy person? I saw Lovers in Paris for lee dong gun and the drama turned into complete misery... and Heirs, Mr Sunshine she always uses good actors to make stupid dramas. I was happy that lee min-ho and Kim Go-Eun were going to act together but I just saw the writer and I don't think I'll watch it in the future.

I just approve City Hall from all of her dramas.

Nux Jul 03 2019 11:47 pm Mr. Sunshine was an absolute masterpiece, an epic historical adventure, a beautifully written story whose characters were portrayed by excellent actors. I still don't understand how it didn't win as many awards as I and many others believed it would. I also really enjoyed Secret Garden. Goblin was really good too, I liked the mains and the secondary couple but my favourites were Secretary Kim and Duk-Hwa.

Shish Jun 07 2019 6:00 am I enjoyed Secret Garden and DotS the most because they have strong characters. Unlike Goblin whose two main leads were pale in comparison to the secondary couple. Mr. Sunshine was good. But it wastes a lot of time in the middle that only the beginning and ending were the best.

I've watched 204 dramas and this stays in my top 5. The most fascinating thread that runs through this drama is watching Min Hyuk's evolution from revenge to romance. His first doubts about "becoming a monster" came early, yet his pain about his girlfriend's death was so deep he couldn't stop himself. Writer Kim, I think Ji Sung's amazing ability and expressive face helped you convince us that Min Hyuk was indeed slowly changing as his disgust became curiosity, then concern & finally respect for Yoo-Jung. Her strong resilience, honesty and generous heart helped heal him. In the 2002 Kdrama cult hit: 'Ruler of your Own World', a good-for-nothing pickpocket trying very hard to kick that habit says: "Changing the world you live in, is much harder than dying," Ji Sung's metamorphosis won me over because he indeed had to change his entire way of 'being in the world' once he met Yoo-Jung. I had the same fascination for Ahn Do Yon's moral decay as he, instead, let his soul die so he could be part of a world that he never belonged in. Thankyou you really showed us the power of writing and true talent with creativity. Thankyou !! Loved every scene of Goblin from episode 1 , yes indeed your selection for Gong yoo is correct He is indeed breathtaking, not sure if anyone else could pull of the richness, sparkle and loneliness of that character. Goblin as concept wise its amazing, I have watched many varieties , this was a first fresh concept where a friendship between goblin and reaper was mesmerizing. he he , who inspired you for this. Please tell how you came across this concept. Your story has depth, reality , faith , duty and the wisdom of life. Wow , when kang mo yeon worked seamlessly as a doctor or yoo shi jin showed his patriotism and took stand for facing the situation and doing what was necessary and in the correct way, that was truly inspiring. The same thoughts goes with Goblin when he made the decision to right the things, not considering too much of his worth, but doing things which needs to be done, for the sake of it. was superb. A true hero. vice versa, how yoo shi jin told the reason for becoming a soldier and do you like being in line of fire, his reply was "some one has to be a soldier" in DOTS or someone has to slay a demon by pulling out a sword from his own chest. It's inspiring !! Your story, you show us the morals, the wisdom, questions on life/fate, questions on duty, whats right and whats wrong. Thankyou !!

Magical, Funny, romantic, cuteness even goblin and reaper got jealous. The all in one drama. Ms. Kim is such a talented writer that knows what viewers want to see and feel. I do hope this will have a happy ending both reaper and goblin deserve to have a happy mortal life i hope it's not too much to ask for surely not only me wishing this drama to have a happy ending but all of us who are hooked to this drama.

Thank you so much for the essential part you played in bringing it to life! I especially like the scene in which the reaper casually leans on a half of the car and after the bride gets out of the car, moves away causing the car to fall over. Pure genius! And the whole "when are we getting thanked" telekinesis conversation. And that neither the goblin nor the reaper knew the passcode to their own house. musebeliever Nov 22 2016 1:55 am My favourite of her dramas was City hall as she included a strong female character. Secret garden was also good. I was really disappointed by the descendants of the sun though. There was a huge potential to work on the difficulties of being a soldier or a doctor in a warzone but all my hopes were crushed by the cheesy romance that dragged on and on. Her female characters nearly always lack a backbone. And when they don't they are just secondary. Goblins seems to be the same. The lead actress has always had extremely weak and annoying characters... Still how to avoid a drama with Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook ? Their characters sound really interesting. I hope the plot makes sense this time.

The lead in this drama reminds me of the more sullen heros of Secret Garden (Hyun Bin) & City Hall (Ji Sub), although Lee Seo Jin has a hotness factor they didn't. As for our heroine, she's off-and-on irritatingly goofy for me but when she is 'on' she is soft-hearted & understanding; the only heroine who is capable of warming the cold heart of a lonely gangster and making him human. A very good drama with a slow burn towards love--and the chemistry between the leads delivers amazing skinship & kisses--actually this was my 150th drama and I've got to say the romance was mature, often natural and Miju and Kang Jae are one of the hottest couples I've seen together so far. They delivered the steak PLUS the sizzle. No wonder they dated for years after this finished! Good job. I loved this story. It's good lesson in not rushing to judge people. The lead actors were mesmerizing as they slowly fell in love. Dislikes #1: Dr. Yoon's best friend was never supportive, always pushy and greedy for whatever her friend had from face cream to office gifts. She also overdid the 'pouty-lipped-'aren't-I just-soo-cute' coy act. Grated on my last nerve. #2 San deserved more than he got for a love interest. Such a pure heart and he gets 'trapped' by that narcissistic friend...when it was clear he yearned for Yu-gin. I would have been happier to see Yu-gin's relationship tie up earlier (and save us the repetitious clinging) so that she coud begin to appreciate San. Kudos Writer Kim!

My routine is to watch even one episode in the evening before I go to sleep and surf all about Song-song Couple in the morning. Come to find out it's written by the same person. I hope that this show is way better than The Heirs or at least not rely heavily on cliches near the end of the series.

And one more thing, i find dramas about mother-in-laws who torments their daughters-in-laws are more cliche than a drama of a poor girl being entangled in love with an upperclass man

ang Jun 24 2014 1:57 pm it would be very interesting to see the Potential pairing - a team of 4 main leads instead of 2 would be ideal allow more vibrant diversity in characters and story line in the decendants of the sun.

Ha Ji Won with Joo Jin Moo and Park Shin hye with Kim woo Bin(potential pairing - they have the X factor and chemistry to make you cry and laugh and root for them, getting them dirty and mucky will allow the viewers to concentrate on their A lister performance. Park Shin hye also has chemistry with Lee Wan (tree in heaven) and there is Song Joong Ki and Yoo Seung Ho but both them are still serving their 2year mandatory military service.

I recommend these peoples : Lead Actor : So Ji Sub/Song Seung Heon/Hyun Bin Lead Actress : Han Hyo Joo/Song Hye Gyo/Yoon Eun Hye Actually I miss Endless Love's couple (Seung Heon oppa & Hye Gyo unnie) and I want see them in one drama again! Another suggestion, I want Ji Sub oppa & Hyo Joo unnie to be main casts, since I watch "Always" I ship them so badly. If the genre is melodrama, they must play it. For the com-rom, why don't you choose Hyun Bin & Yoon Eun Hye as the main casts? I want to see the chemistry between them in a drama. Ji Sub-Hye Gyo is nice couple too. It's just my opinion. Remember that they are famous actors/actress, I hope it can help you to consider your drama. The famous artists are better than the new and young artists. But it's up to you. Narnia Nov 21 2013 1:15 am Hi! Only this lately i have been actively write a comment about Korean drama. It's all because the Heirs! It's made me addictive every week to see how it goes. I love gentleman's dignity because its simple, funny and lovely story. Happy ending of course!! But i must agree with few other peoples. I can't get it where will you lead the Heirs story going to. Until episode 13 seems still there is no turning point. Nothing big. Just revealing of KT secret to broke engagement and that's it. How will you end everything become a happy ending story (i do hope this drama will have a happy ending) for the whole cast..(for KT vs ES, KT vs YD, KT vs Hyung, and KT vs Jeguk Enterprise) i just can't imagine that. No clue at all. But i really really hope KT and ES will have a happy ending story. Love is moment.. love is pain but by being together they can go through everything and fight the world! Watching the Heirs make me more and more love Lee Min Ho.. he is very adorable!! Fighting!!

Nadhira Oct 31 2013 12:59 am Hi Kim Eun Sook-ssi :) Just want to say.. i am ur big fans, i love all of ur dramas esp secret garden, but unfortunately, i don't think your latest dramas are that great (heirs). It's really similar to BFF/Hanayori Dango, but in the bad way. I mean, i'm the biggest fans of Hanayori Dango, but i don't really like heirs.. the casts are all great, but the story itself kinda weak. nothing special, nothing intense enough, similar to BFF but differents, BFF more intense and exciting. It's such a waste, cause i know all the casts are talented and you are also talented.

actually, if u make heirs based on the other popular story such like "Penguin Brothers" or "Imadoki", i think it'll be more good. especcially "Penguin Brothers", because i just found out that almost all the casts of "heirs" really suit all the characters in "penguin brothers".

I hope for ur next project, u'll make another kim eun sook big hit drama ^^ btw if u want to make it based on manga, i suggest you to read "Glass Mask", "earth still spinning", "pansy", "W Juliette", "La Corda d'oro", "Miss Modern", "Yokohama", "Popcorn", "Mari chan series", etc. It's all my favorite manga and I always think it's so good if it's made into live action :D

a writer too May 19 2013 11:33 am hi kim :) i respect your work. just here to say...i somewhat agree with those two comments below the love triangle should be more interesting. in kdrama it seems theres always 2 boys in love with one girl OR two girls in love with one boy.. all always usual and normal. a bit boring sometimes. in my opinion you are brave enough to spice up the love triangle a little bit. maybe KWB in love with LMH or the other way around. please make it weird and not normal :) Good Luck

JO Mar 08 2013 12:48 pm Hi Kim, love every story you wrote. My favourite is 'Lovers'. Whether you believe it or not, I have watch this drama for a 100 times and I am still liking it. This is one of the best drama with the best actor and actress you have put together though its very very sad and disappointing that they both did not end up together in real life where they supposed to have.

I know I am going to make a very silly and impossible request but I still want to ask if there is any chance of writing a story for Lee Seo Jin and Kim Jung Eun to act together again??? Despite of all the dramas and movies I've watched in my whole entire life, they are the best couple and best partners acting together. Hope to see another of their drama together ......

It is really suprise me because with Korean style film but there is no "repeat" and "slow" section that make viewer feel bored with your story. And although there are many magical thing in this film but it seems really true for me because of the way people live and behave with each other. I love that drama and all the issues it brings up: the electoral process, corruption, food sovereignty even, etc. I almost didn't see Secret Garden because I thought the body-swapping wouldn't interest me. Was I ever wrong! At first, it was hilarious; later, heart-wrenching. And I didn't know you wrote the Lovers trilogy. I saw all of them, and especially enjoyed Lovers in Prague. I will now go on to see all the rest of your work.

I first fell in love with your stories, as did my wife, with The City Hall (if anything, slightly more powerful than Secret Garden), and am now in the process of discovering all your work. I was even more shocked when I found out that the script was written by a woman! To drag violently a woman by hand or take off her blouse without her permission etc... are things not normal in the world I live in. I don't know men treat women in Korea, but if this is normal and popular over there I really pity their women. Scandalous!

We have a couple of movies based on soul switching and this is not new but you have handled the plot beautifully and dramatically. I must admit that I am not fancinated with all the actings and it is probably I do not understand korean or asian culture. It feels like everything is revolving being young hence regardless how great an actor or actresses be their acting career are very shot-lived. Correct me if I am wrong. It looks like it's aiming at 'young market' or 'young at heart'. It's totally nothing wrong with that if it makes great ratings (it's very Japanese!!!) but it is just not my cup of tea. Please write more great scripts for Song Seung Heon, he's one true great actor and also not forgetting Kim Tak Hee. Hope to see your future work with him or her, expecially him, call me bias.

I will look out for your Secret Garden but one problem for me, the English subtitles on all the Korean films and series are absolutely terrible and not making any sense at all time. I have to rely on Korean/Chinese friends or associate to interpret the drama and that makes watching anything really difficult. To purchase a DVD is not impossible because there are Asian shop in my part of the world but the English subtitles look like a direct translation from Google and are totally ridiculous. Hope there are better English subtitles Korean films available for the western markets in future. Love watching Song Seung Heon and Kim Tae Hee, they both are true great actors. By any chance, have you read the play called "My Fair Lady" based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion? The scene where Kim Sarang told Ha Jiwon that a even a common woman can become a queen and a noble woman can become a maid depending on how she's treated by the man she loves (something like that, I'm basing it on the subtitles) is very much like what Eliza Doolittle said in My Fair Lady.
