Moritaka Mashiro (Takeru Satoh) doesn't want to follow in the path of his uncle who worked as a manga artist, but ultimately died because of exhaustion. Moritaka Mashiro figures he will graduate from school and work at an office. Things change though when falls in love with a girl at school. The girl, who hopes to become a voice actress, tells Moritaka they can marry, but only after they both achieve their dreams. Moritaka then teams up with fellow classmate Akito Takagi (Ryunosuke Kamiki) to publish their first manga.

Based on manga series "Bakuman" by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata (pubished August 11, 2008 to April 23, 2012 by Weekly Shonen Jump).

Ienaga Jul 12 2020 7:44 am This Movie is should've been made into a 2-3 part movie if we compared it to the anime/manga, a lot of important part is omitted and they're making it cheap and dark in some part. imagine making a 20 volume manga/75 episode anime into a movie...

Izzy Jul 26 2017 11:43 am I just couldn't handle the damage done to Azuki and Niizuma's characters, turning them into villains. Bakuman is such a positive manga with a positive message, and they ruined it for cheap drama.

Of course, if I hadn't read the manga first I might see it differently, but still. Also, I don't know if it's just the way Nana smiles, or the way she chose to act, or the way she was directed in this movie, but she reaaallly annoyed me.

Overall I was very disappointed with this. The most disappointing part is how they ruined Mashiro's art, but meh. I guess it's not any more than you could/should expect from a movie adaptation like this, I just wish they respected the source material a little bit more.

baiichi Dec 19 2016 3:42 pm I have finally finished the movie and I agreed with a comment below, the rivalry between Nizuma Eiji and Ashirogi Muto should have been a friendly one. Nizuma is supposed to be someone who acts as both a rival and a guidance to Ashirogi Muto but the movie turns out so differently.

I guess if I had watched this while knowing nothing about the manga, I would have enjoyed it a lot more because the acting, the film editing and music were great but since I am a hardcore fan of Bakuman, it's hard to watch the drastic changes the script has made.

baiichi Dec 19 2016 3:09 pm I wish this has been made into a 2 part movie instead so that more characters can be put in. I'm sad that they omit Kaya, Aoki and Iwase. All of them greatly contribute to the plot. Kaya and Akagi's relationship is possibly the cutest and she is a great supporter to the duo.

Dsan Dec 15 2016 9:30 pm So excited when one my favorite manga is turned into live action! After i watched it, i'm kinda disappointed by the director's (or higher ups) decision to create dark rivalry between Niizuma-sensei and the rest. While the manga version their rivalry is cheerful and fun :(

Ciel Jun 28 2016 11:12 am In my opinion Takeru Sato look a bit old for a highschooler character. Moreover he's paired with Kamiki kun who looks so young. It's better to not accept this kind of role anymore, unless the prod team can style him much younger than his actual look. Still support Takeru Sato nonetheless :)

wayoverhere Apr 30 2016 11:12 am About 20 minutes of the movie I just realized the main cast are in rurouni kenshin (kenshin and seta).. how dense I am.. I heard so much about the manga even though I haven't read it yet, seeing the movie with great casts (with actors in movies like beck, kirishima thing, solanin, himizu) it is easy to get immersed into the movie. The story itself is plain and simple, somewhat predictable but who cares, it takes a different take on manga>live action, from the perspective of the mangaka himself about the harsh world of manga.. I like how cgi is used to illustrate the drawing process, battle of taka and euji.. the downside of manga adaptation is and will always be some holes, parts, characters, conflicts left out so it might just felt way too short and simple, but as someone who like to read manga and familiar with big hits of shonen jump's, it feels nostalgic seeing those mangas like hunter x hunter, slam dunk, dbz, one piece, soma, naruto, dr slump, etc neatly put in the shelf..

Worth to watch esp if you like manga.. (I feel bit sorry for mangakas life to be always rushed by ranking and deadline, as a reader I always impatient waiting the next chapter of my fave mangas, especially dealing with cliffhanger.. I hope they take care of their wellbeing)

cyn Apr 15 2016 1:13 pm I love Bakuman manga and I have a certain craziness of Sato Takeru, but as much as I like the special fx-cgi thing and all, I found this movie's story a little bit short compares to the manga. I fully realised the movie time limitation, but to completely erased Kaya's character is very dissapointing, not to mention Iwase dan Aoki. It became boys-only-mangaka-club. That being said, all the boys did amazing job portraying the character, especially Sometani Shota, I swear that exactly how I imagine Eiji cute awkwardness.

Moritaka Oct 24 2015 4:05 am Okay so here's my review about the movie. The movie was fantastic. I would watch it two times. The CGI parts may become a wee bit over the top but that only lasts for about 1-2 minutes around mid-end of movie. Great acting by everyone and the scenes were they draw are great. The characters stay true to the manga but there have been some changes like how Uncle died and also what happened between Moritaka and his future wife. Other than that I hope you guys will enjoy the movie when it comes out!

Or maybe they change the story so it started in Senior highschool or College?? Because these guys obviously too old for Junior (even senior) High students. Well, I'm a huge fan of the series (both manga & anime), so I'll watch this movie for sure. I guess I'll just pretend that Japanese students have older face than their actual age. Lol

I'm the type of girl who rather reads shojo, but this manga really stuck out for me as I plan to become a manga writer probably sometime in the future. Kamiki-san does not look good in those glasses... Oh, well... I watch the movie anyways. Two of my favorite actors! Yay!
