Ko Se-Yeon (Kim Sa-Rang) is a beautiful prosecutor and she is good at her job. She gets into an accident and dies. Due to mysterious bead Abyss, Ko Se-Yeon is revived, but she now has a different appearance. Ko Se-Yeon (Park Bo-Young) now possesses a common appearance. The mysterious bead Abyss revives dead persons, but they gain a different appearance. Their appearance depends on how good their spirit was.

Meanwhile, Cha Min (An Se-Ha) is the successor of a cosmetics company. He is smart, humble and has a good heart. He is also unattractive. Cha Min gets into an accident and dies. Due to the mysterious bead Abyss, he comes back to life with a different appearance. Cha Min (Ahn Hyo-Seop) now has a handsome appearance.

Ko Se-Yeon begins to work as an attorney at a law firm. Cha Min begins to work for Ko Se-Yeon at the law firm.

AC Sep 28 2023 8:13 am The first few episodes were interesting and written nicely. Episode 14 is the worst story with poor character development. Cha min has the power to revive but he worries that Ko Se-Yeon would die. He could have tied Seo Ji-Wook before reviving him.

Also Park Bo Young never disappoints me. I also loved the character Lee Si Un, a fine actor too with charisma!

Rc137 Apr 10 2023 8:08 pm The aliens did not tell Cha Min Not to use Abyss. They did say it had a manual. Abyss revives a dead person in the form of their soul. So apparently Cha Min’s, Se Yeon’s, and Young Cheol’s soul looks like a different person (their original body disappears or is transformed). Hee Jin’s soul looks like Hee Jin. If they get killed and revived again, the looks of their soul doesn’t change. I thought the plot was very well written. No holes in the story line. A lot of people are over-analyzing (and getting it wrong). You just have to believe abyss “marble” exists and that dead people can be revived. Stop trying to relate to real world. Also, this is not a rom-com. It’s a serial killer murder mystery fantasy with a little romance/comedy.

Spoiler: when the marble evaporates, Cha Min is able to revive Se Yeon because he finds another “marble”. Happy ending

rc137 Apr 08 2023 5:57 pm Am on episode 8, Abyss is so good. It’s a murder/mystery with a little romance and comedy. Park Bo Young is excellent in this. Her acting is a little like in “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”. Kind of cute. Prosecutor Go Se Yeon gets murdered and is revived but now looks like Lee Mi Do (with the personality of Do Bong Soon). Works for me. Drama is not scary or “heavy”. Enjoying it for the 3rd time.

I like how she disses herself in comparison to Ko Se Yeon’s previous appearance (played by Kim Sa Rang) before she was murdered. Can’t compete with a former Miss Korea. Park Bo Young is pretty in a cute way rather than sexy. I also liked Park Bo Young in “strong woman do bong soon”.

Nelly Feb 27 2023 5:54 am I usually even like the most stupidest kdramas but this one just made me angry. When I was watching the first few episodes I thought they just needed time to make up the storyline but it just got worse and worse. There were so many unnecessary/unrealistic coincidences and plot twists happening, making the story really boring and hard to enjoy. Most of the actors did a great job and that’s actually the only reason why I pushed myself to watch till the end. The general idea of abyss combining romance and fantasy could have been so good but the storyline ruined it. Wasted the actors and storys potential. Usually I would just move on and watch another series but this pissed me off so much that I had to write a comment.

My friend recommended this show, and said it was good. I will never ever listen to her recommendations again. The acting may be a little bit good, but that's like the only good thing about it. I do like action, murders, and stuff like that. But this is just not it. So if u want to watch this, Do Not!

Sorry but PBY annoys me. I've never seen her act before and I must say her acting is bad. Overall the storyline/scriptwriting was a disaster and the low ratings speaks for itself.

Lud2sei Jan 23 2022 9:20 pm I can't for the life of me figure out people who defend this show with everything they can muster. It is, for lack of better politically correct words, a god awful show. The writing is terrible, the characters are horror movie stupid at many points in the storyline, and the author seems to not know whether this is your typical Rom Com or a thriller on a fantastic background. Many times, the protagonists seem to become autistic and make irrational decisions a 12 year old kid would be smart enough not to risk. There's a dead stranger lying on the street? Let's resuscitate him using the strange orb I was especially instructed Not To Use. -Cha Min. There's a serial killer on the loose out to kill me. I totally should go take a stroll in the dead of the night, alone, with no way to protect myself. Yup, sounds like a good idea. Twice! -Go Seyeon. And Min Let Her Do It too. This brings us to how they got in that situation to begin with: The infamous list of to-do things. Min is such a simp he shouldn't even be allowed to live. His IQ drops below sea level every time love is involved. Like that date couldn't wait for the total resolution of the murder case and Oh Taejin to finally be in custody or better yet, dead. No, it just had to be now, so that the protagonists's happiness could be shattered. The writer made her damned bestest to make the characters deadly stupid for plot progression purpose it's insulting in the long run. There wasn't one episode where I didn't scream at my screen "WTF No! Why would he/she/they (mostly she, because, let's be honest, Seyeon has next to zero instinct of preservation. She's a real lemming) do that in this situation?! Are they retarded?" The actors did their job and played the - poorly written - part well.

In the end, Min disappears because of nothing else but his own - writer intended - natural stupidity. He was told not to use the Abyss and overused it, twice to revive a killer albeit not the same one. The first time, that was a total stranger whom he had absolutely no obligation to and the second time over was even worse because he could very much have let him die, then found Seyeon and resuscitated Her Only if she was already dead. But hey, simps will do things only simps can understand. The point is, Both Times Led To Se-Yeon Dying Because He Chose Poorly.

Now, this is so that the show could progress I hear you say. I can conceive that, but truthfully, I would rather it ended the thriller part at that point on the docks and then turned to romance rather than the characters continuing to behave like complete morons just to push a few more episodes with the murder plot.

It got old real fast, and even if them acting foolishly is a given considering the plot progression until then, you just can't wrap your head around it and expect them to actually do it, because no one with half a functional brain would ever think of doing what they do.

So whoever says Abyss is a good and well written drama has visibly no idea what good writing is. A plot where characters act stupid only so the show can advance is only ever acceptable in Z series horror movies, where the rating equates the amount of hemoglobin seen on screen. For a show like Abyss, you expect a minimum of intellectual work, because, there is, after all, a serial killer on the loose. And nobody knows until some point, who he is and then again what he looks like. So the characters should be wary at least. Instead they forgo the tension and proceed to play highschool romance, with one of them even naive/stupid enough to convince himself that a golddigging thot who dumped him because "she can't continue to share her bed with someone so ugly" will take him back if he gets his old body back after resolving the murder case!? What drove him to draw that conclusion in the first place? He wasn't EVER told this. Instead he was told his new body would "expire" upon his death, which is self-explanatory. Not to mention him being in full denial mode all along. But then again, SIMP. Ergo the writer even makes up things that no one ever said before to give the protagonist purpose. Where's the logic in that? "Well written"? You all sure obediently follow the rule of Suspension of Disbelief while you watch this. So much in fact that you even turned your logical brain off totally. And might have forgotten to switch it on again after watching. Liking the actors, alright. But saying the drama was well written just shows how illogical and irrational you are. Because every moment in this drama defies human logic. And I am not talking about how a alien artefact brings dead people back to life with a body matching the state of their soul. That was actually one of the only few things that ever made any sense.

I'm already in episode 7, but I dont think I can watch this till the end, even if Hyeo seop is so handsome. Park Bo Young's presence ruined the drama. Seo hee fits her role to be honest. Serious and sophisticated prosecutor.

Aside for PBY, I also decided not to continue watching this because of the plot. The writer made the characters so dumb! (Spoiler ahead) Like when Cha Min was killed by Yeong Cheol, wtf would follow a stranger/known serial killer to a dark/isolated place? Cha Min will not die if the writer isnt dumb and the marble wont be on the serial killer's possession. All in all, I will rate this movie, including PBY's acting, 2/10. For Seo Hee's and Hyeo Seop acting, 10/10.

Abysser Nov 07 2021 1:35 pm So I just watched Hometown Cha cha cha few days ago then now in ep.10 of Abyss, when Se Yeon and Cha Min in the secret room, she found and old music player then the main song in HTCCC came up. I was like "whooooooooooo, how is this happening?". Then I searched and found out the 2 dramas took places separately!! Like nothing connected. Is this song that famous or just miraculously coincident?

There are so many moments throughout this drama that left me screaming. A lot of what happens makes no sense. My feeling after watching the show was just more questions and 'wtf', rather than "that was a good show".

If you like any of the actors, sure but, if you're looking a good plot and compelling story, this is not it.

Did they not bother trying to find the body of Hee-Jin's mother after it was dumped into the water? Not to mentioned Hee-Jin seemingly vanished from the plot, at a pivotal moment, only to come back on the last episode (Min left her at the docks after he found Se-Yeon, LMAO). Who is that guy at the end with the red Abyss? They never really explained how Min came back (other Abyss revivals needed a body but his vanished???). Where was Min teleported to and how did he 'ghost' himself back to Seoul to stalk Se-Yeon? Prosecutor Seo was seemingly ran over with a car but the investigators completely ignore whatever motivated the attempted murder or why P.Seo was even at the docks to begin with. Also, the Abyss has a manual written in alien language but uses perfect Korean whenever Min & gang need to know what it can do.

Kdrama fan Oct 22 2021 3:47 am the plot and mystery/crime isn't that good here, I think I end up watching for the sweet romance between the lead gal and lead guy....protagonists are overly loud and attention-seeking in the public places, I mean if you are supposed to be dead / wanted criminal for murder why go wandering outside like you are a usual person, yell at that person's name loudly etc (I keep worrying that the salesgal or cashier would recognise their name or overhear their conversation when they yell their names loudly etc).....you should stay hidden isn't it? I mean usually if you are a wanted criminal or someone who is supposed to be dead, you should stay hidden in an enclosed place and not go out like shopping or wander about....

and yes once the serial killer is arrested so early in the show I know for sure he would escape later, cos the usual police/prison wardens are usually stupid in Kdrama (except for the leads maybe).

Sofa Jun 20 2021 2:21 am This drama is not about the normal type of story as you see in any other drama. On the contrary, it is about chasing a serial killer and the ability to retrieve the dead. However, there is a complicated twist to this ability. A deceased person might transfer, after being retrieved, to a different body, forcing you to live someone else’s life. And of course, Abyss should not be called a Korean drama if it does not include some romantic stuff.

Although the storyline was pretty good and the chemistry between the characters was fine, something was missing that kept me fast-forwarding episodes several times. It might have something to do with the first episode in which the producers already revealed the two suspects. For someone like me it’s then quite difficult to pay attention to the story. Watching the characters searching the suspects for 16 episodes when you already know the answers is not much fun. Actually, you should call it boring.

Shelly May 31 2021 11:40 am Well I just finished watching this drama for 3-4 days. Idk why people mostly put negative review. I myself really enjoyed this. I found it was an exciting drama tho. I love the line story. Anyways in some time Go seyeon was clever and made me impressed, but some time too she made me mad (for her being trapped for times). But it's ok, there were many sweet moments of her and Cha Min, also heartfelt moment of family, and mixed with crime and mystery. It was worth to watch in my opinion

I feel like the drama could’ve been great but it was poorly written.. they could’ve given us so much more. Also Ko Se-Yeon character was the most annoying one after Hee-jin’s, like why would you trust Hee-jin everytime and do the same mistake over and over?? A prosecutor revived to another body without anyone knowing and will now solve her own murder case and find her killer? - That could have been a promising concept. However, The Script Seems Like Written By A Bunch Of Idiots! If you have a dumb weakling character, fine. Let that character react dumbly and do dumb things on such situations. But, if you have a f*cking Intelligent Prosecutor for a main character, shouldn't that character act and react logically to every situation and leave no loopholes that will endanger her? Especially after being murdered? Right?? Right? But the stupid (sorry but the writer is really stupid) writer kept making what supposedly a smart character who prides herself in making rational decisions do dumb things all the time! Am I watching a drama with prosecutor, lawyers, detective and smart businessman as main characters or am I watching Dumb Ways to Die? It Was A Drag On, Not To Mention Frustrating To Watch Because Of The Writer's Poor Plot Device. The writer made it necessary for a smart character to do dumb things just so they can move to the next sequence of the story that she already had fixed in his/her mind. Stupid. It's a total waste of time. The actors were good but the writing is infuriating! You'll literally roll your eyes, sigh, ugh, and pull your hair off because of how illogical the characters here are for a murder/mystery story. What was the writer even thinking? We are all dumb to think that those are believable? The inconsistencies in the characters will make you cuss a lot. Like they'll act smart for filler scenes yet act all dumb for the majority of the story ..well just so the story can move to the next part. So disappointing. So frustrating to watch. The writing is like blasphemy to murder/mystery genre and any other dramas that were written with the writer's whole heart and talent. The only redeeming thing about this drama is the soundtrack sang by that great singer Kim Feel.

I am confused right now if I gonna continue watching it since more than half of the population who commented gave negative feedbacks on this drama. But so far, the episode 1 was good and I like the plot. So I think I gonna try to watch it since I have no complains. If it ends up that the story becomes boring and annoying--- so I think I need to reconsider it

Also, since on more than one occasion they call park bo-young 'ugly', i automatically count that as a plot hole.

April Mar 16 2021 6:36 pm If you are wondering why some people love this drama while others don't I can explain. The actors are good and the idea is good, but the drama is poorly written and frustrating. I can't express in words just how dumb every single character is in every single episode of this drama. It's beyond a normal level. At this point you have to wonder how these people manage to hold down jobs let alone function in society at all. The complete lack of brains by all of the characters is so extreme you have to watch the drama to fully believe it's even possible for characters to be this stupid over and over. Yes, they do make the SAME mistakes over and over as well as new mistakes.

That being said, the drama is still watchable, although extremely frustrating. The idea is fun and the actors are likable. The love story is even cute. The only difference between this and a good korean drama is that when you see a good korean drama you want to watch one episode after another because it's so exciting you need to know what happens next however in this drama, although it always ends on a cliff hanger, is SO ANNOYING that you need a break between episodes in order to not pull your hair out.

If you don't mind silly fun that makes no sense I think it can be a watchable drama. But please go into it knowing that these characters will the the single dumbest characters you have ever seen in any show in your entire life and you will get frustrated with them at times.

Most of this drama is heavily dominated my the antagonists like there is supposed to be highs and lows, but in here there's only ever mainly lows and really dumb,poorly written at that. The main character Cha Mom in always late and he is also a dimwit. So so frustrating. It's like watching Arsenal play is you're a fan of Arsenal.

I think this drama should not be call abyss cause it doesn't potray about the abyss itself in full. If it isnt for PBY i won't finish this drama at all. The final ep is dissapointing and i can't relate why hee jin character was even there. Like she doesnt contribute anything.

Anw, poor written drama on crime / sci-fi but if u r looking for fantasy romance, this drama will be right for u.

99% of the plot is Hee Jin and Se Yeon throwing tantrum and the fact that Hee Jin being annoying and lost her mother because of her own issue annoys me to the max. The plot really gets dull after some time.

Just Oct 21 2020 5:51 am Abyss's concept was good but not the storytelling. Characters have certain description eg: intelligent but they act the opposite.

There isnt much to the story development. This could have been a good 8epi story. The comedy scenes lacks humour aspects. There is no logic on how the serial killer gets access to various locations and resources. When showing parallel scenes, its lacking the thrill and when each action/story detail is explained too much, makes the story boring. It killed the enjoyment in "connecting the dots" from the viewers.

After all, this is a good drama but for some reason i expect more for the story. I'm just disappointed in the last eps. It makes me mad, and i hope writer can improve his/her plot story for a well ending.

Its the scene when cha min is in the "alien world" If you look closely you can his face. Watched it in HD. Will someone confirm it? There are so many tributes/connection to Strong Woman Do Bong Soon in this series. First, the male lead Cha MIN, a tribute to the male lead An MIN-Hyuk? Second, I think it was in a chasing scene, I guess in the 2nd episode, when the car is passing by to Dobong-dong.

For one the writer made cha min a little naive at times but he was really smart and was constantly figuring out and helping them solve problems. Also this show, like most others, can be a little predictable at times, but as it progressed it became more confusing (in a good way to me) and enticing and always left you wanting more. It kept you on your toes and was very interesting. There are many sweet moments and its also sad at times. But everything works out and it is very creative. There are also many funny parts and I think it's irrational to claim that cha min and the story is stupid. It has a great story-line and I totally recommend it.

For example, in episode 6, when Cha Min came to the restaurant to save Se Yeon, he literally threw Oh Yeong Cheol on to the ground. He could have took advantage of that and do more damage on him, 'cause it was obvious that Oh Yeong Cheol was barley hurt and could still stand up and fight. He could have threw tables at him, punch him even more so that Oh Yeong Cheol was weak. My daughter even said that if she was in that position, she would stab him in the eye and rip his hair out lol. No hate to this K-drama, just my opinion.

Drama was kind of a cross between “My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox” and “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”. Drama was so good, I watched it all last night because had to know how they would “catch” the bad guys and see how they would do the ending. ??????????

Rc137 May 20 2020 5:19 am I’m almost finished watching the drama. Park Bo Young looks really pretty. If she were about 15cm taller, she could be a model. Drama has just the right amount of cuteness, romance and mystery/intrigue. It’s a little nerve wracking when the female lead is in danger but “Min” always manages to save her. The ending is a little predictable, since it’s a kdrama, but can’t wait to find out how the drama ends.

Park Bo Young may not have “model” looks but I think she is cute/pretty. She talks similar to Do Bong Soon. Min Min will like Se Yeon (new). Looks good so far. I’m going to finish this drama in a day or two.

People have different preferences, just watch the drama and see it for yourself. Abyss is one of those underrated drama and its ost was good too. It’s not perfect just like any drama but it’s still a good drama. Both PBY and AHS did amazing. Everyone else in the drama were great too. PBY and AHS chemistry was so cute and easy going, you can feel their love and emotion for each other. Yes I did cry with them too.I really did enjoyed Abyss, looking forward to seeing PBY comeback. Missed her very much, hope she had a good recovery and rest.

CC Mar 10 2020 1:31 am This my 4th attempt at finishing this drama and am on episode 9. I can't believe I'm contemplating giving a thumbs down to a Park Bo Young series. I guess it will depend on how it ends. I'm so disappointed... I find her character annoying. Many things didn't make any sense in this drama. For example (SPOILER ALERT!), so they're trying to fool the bad guys into thinking she's dead, right? Why is she out and about with no disguise?!?! Small things like this annoyed me. I will probably fast forward the remaining episodes...unless I abandon this again. SMH.

It kept me on the edge and I like the plot so much. I love Park Bo Young and Ahn Hyeo Seop's chemistry. I never left comment before, but this drama worth the positive comment. I finished it less than two days, seriously, the best thriller drama I've ever watched!

PS. Ahn Hyeo Seop is my favorite actor now :)

Fayesha Jan 10 2020 12:34 pm been waiting for another park bo young drama, but after 2 episode, i know it's not a pure romance drama, and the plot, even it looks like a new, but i have been watching too much k-drama to know where or how this drama are going to end, and looking at how in 2 episode the writer handle the new identity are really annoying, he could just said he get Plastic surgery from the get go. should make viewer enjoy and curious from this 2 episode it's very important, but instead the writer are making this 2 episode so annoying and burdensome. and revealing the killer in just 2 episode are killing the tense.

yeah good luck if you still want to watch this drama, i'm sure lot's of people will still like this drama.

Well I just had to share this (fyi, I am not a fan in giving out comments) because seems like negative comments is higher than positive comments. This drama deserve positivity more than negativity!

I really wish they’ll make Season 2 in anytime soon because i love the hero and heroin. Watching these two acting really gives me butterflies in the belly! I love their chemistry (that’s why i watched it 3 times!)! Hope to see more projects with these two as the hero and heroin!

And heyy am so gonna end my 2019 by watching this drama because this is the best korean drama for year 2019 and i want to end my year 2019 with good drama! Thank you to production, director and team for producing good drama like this! Love it to the bitssss ?

Their acting is incredible most specially Oh Yeong Cheol. He's a great actor. One if the best villain in all of the kdrama that I have watched. When I watch the first episode, I craved for more episodes that's why I continue it until I finished it but I'm telling all of you, It's all worth it. It let me confused in the last episode. What happened to Cha Min's Mother? We saw her at the Episode 15 and she's not okay. Right? How about the Jang He Jin's Mother. Did the found where the body is? And lastly, about Go Se Yeong's Father. Did some of you noticed when Se Yeong confessed that she's the real Se Yeong, you can see to her Mother that she's happy because Se Yeong is alive even if it's not the same appearance to the old Se Yeong but her Father is not happy. I think, the best answer to my question is that the Father is not satisfied or he didn't want to accept the new Se Yeong. Right? But the writer didn't give us the best ending in the Father-Daughter tandem which is one of my favorite parts coz her Father (Se Yeong) really loves him. And when Se Young's Mother visited her, when she asked where is her Father, the Mother is a little bit shocked in Se Yeong's question. Did you notice that or is it just me? Hehe. But all in all, I rate the drama: 10/10 ❤

PS: Han so Hee (Jang He Jin) Kim Sa Rang (Go Seo Yeong) Jung So Min (Alien in Episode 1) They are so beautiful!!! Kim Bo Young is so cute and adorable ❤

If you have the stamina to get through some of the side stories then you will enjoy watching this as the concept of Abyss unfolds.

damkdramasnowadays Jul 30 2019 10:22 am This started full of promise. Even with some plot holes it was still watchable until it went ri.di.cu.lous. After a fine story arc, lead guy went into flower vase mode halfway through. The editing became super choppy. Script brought you round and round for whole episodes that made no sense when it was too obvious what was going to happen or what should happen.

It was ruined by half-hearted script, terrible directing and awful edits. Started off with 4 stars ended with 2 - I gave up 3/4 into it, giving about 3 episodes for it to improve to no avail.

You can watch till ep 8. Anything after is a waste of time.

Firstly, the series was not bad overall. Going into more details, the characters were well-portrayed, Oh Young Cheol got on my nerves coz he spoke in such a slow creepy manner (which I guess means the actor delivered well), and acting was good. The plot was a good attempt but the screenplay sort of brought down the value of the series. It felt like the drama was pretty slow despite the bizillion things happening in a single episode. The drama seemed to have included a lot of unnecessary details and complicated the plot more than required which, I assume, dropped viewer ratings. For the romance part, it was not much in the beginning, and a lot at the end (compared to its own beginning) that it seemed like the writers were trying to reach the 16 episode threshold somehow.

Overall, the plot was good, casting/acting was good, the series had potential but the execution was ruined due to the screenplay and unnecessary details and complications.

Yesha Jul 27 2019 10:05 am Superb acting and chemistry of all the casts. Even those with small roles have shown great acting. However, the storyline especially the actions of the protagonists were so dumb. Oh Young Cheol was really a god because he keeps escaping and has the strength of a young man even when he had an old body LOL. Anyways, the story gets a pass because the actors really delivered their characters well especially the 2 villains.

Ahn Hyo-Seop really surpassed my expectation because I thought he was still raw when he was chosen as the male lead but he has a bright future ahead in acting. He is good and actually kept on improving on his every drama. Park Boyoung as always superb in acting.

I hope to see Kwon Soo-Hyun and Han So-Hee be given leads on their next dramas as both are good in acting too.

All I heard from the dialogue between the characters was just YELLING. I don't think it's the actors' fault tho, it's more on the screenwriter. This drama was written poorly. The only character that I enjoyed in this drama was Park Dongcheol. I know it's a mystery/thriller drama, but the plot shouldn't always be in 'chaos', iykwim. If you guys are looking for a better mystery drama you should watch Who Are You, played by So Ehyun and Taecyeon of 2PM.

I find the characters to be really annoying which makes me sooo sad because I love Park Boyoung as an actress but I can't stand her character. I swear that all the characters here have annoyed me at least once while watching, I probably stopped watching around the 8th or 9th so even the beginning of their romance ain't saving the drama for me. It's unfortunate because Park Boyoung and Ahn Hyoseob actually look real cute together but their characters do not in my opinion. I wish to see them in another project in the future with a better screenwriter and plot.

Young-cheol is just so unlikeable and Se-yeon can get a little bit annoying. The Lee Mi-do situation it's entertaining though, sad it only lasted like 2 episodes. Ji-wook is a mysterious man and I do not like him at all. Dong-cheol acting is good. It's a good drama but it made me mad a lot of times.

Its not technically considered a drama its more of a crime/fantasy show much like Cheo-Yong(which was about a police detective who could see ghosts) I honestly think this show was leaning towards mystery than drama. I've seen tons of drama but there have been very few that kept me on the edge like this one. This has more of a suspense feel to it with just a little romance. I feel that it balances out great. I think the reason people are giving a bad review on this one is because they expected it to be more drama than anything else. I honestly love this drama so much and I would definitely recommend it to people

I love Kdramas, yet Abyss is so shameful the entire 16 eps should have been left on the cutting room floor. I'd say it was done purely, as are so many movies in the USA, to give the cast something to do and a paycheck until something much much much better comes along. The depth of disappointment in this drama can't possibly be understated. I'd be ashamed if I was listed as part of the cast. Moo Soo-Yun, the *cough cough* writer, needs to find other employment. Seriously sad example of a drama coming from South Korea.

Ellie Jul 08 2019 8:42 pm I watched this entire drama because the basic idea looked great. I have seen a lot of Kdramas and usually like the fantasy ones. This one was very hard to get through. The actors did their best. The writing was weak. Some things just did not make sense. Also, (POSSIBLE SPOILER)-why did characters keep walking around leaving themselves open to being kidnapped, attacked, killed, etc. when they knew there were killers on the loose looking for them? Money was obviously not an issue. They could have hired an army of the best bodyguards. This happened many times. A more creative writer could have found ways to have the characters in danger even though they took precautions. I have seen it done and it makes for great suspense in a drama. Lastly, this drama just did not move along fast enough. It kept repeating some of the same types of incidents as if the writer ran out of new ideas early on but had to fill 16 episodes.

The storyline was quite poor, the execution of all the scene were made so that the bad guy can continually commit their crime. I can still understand if the characters are being careless once or maybe twice but all these characters keep making stupid mistakes and being careless they havent even learn from the previous incident. Go Se Yeon was supposed to be badass character but really i would prefer it if she could just stay put cause in all honesty she need a saving in every damn scene. sure she display her limited intelligence sometimes but really her character was just not that bright to even redeem herself. And Cha Min quite disappointing how he was reduced into a lover character for the fluff factor and didnt take any integral role in solving the mystery apart from being the not so bright Go Se Yeon’s savior and sidekick. And the police how could they be so careless in apprehending criminals and suspect?? Im actually amazed at myself for not fast forwarding through the episode except for the last 3 coz by then not even the cuteness of Ahn Hyo Seop-Park Bo young couple could make me sit through the episode.

TBH this wasn't the worst drama I've ever watched but it definitely wasn't the best. I personally enjoyed its mix of different genres such as drama, comedy, romance, and mystery, as well as the beautiful OST, and the cast was amazing (plus the main leads had good chemistry) but the writing is really where this drama falls short. It was pretty bad and there were so many plot holes and contradictions. Sometimes I really just wanted to throw my laptop out the window because of how stupid the characters could be sometimes. Despite how annoying they were, I still loved the romance between Cha Min and Go Se Yeon. At first I thought she just fell in love with him because he was suddenly super handsome but when she later told him that she always loved him it made me love and support the relationship way more. However for some reason at the end of the last episode she said she didn't want their children to have his old face?? But... I thought you liked him for who he was so why?? Anyways, the finale wasn't that good but I'm glad it ended with them married and with them having children. And also with Seo Ji Uk/Oh Tae Jin getting arrested. But I don't get why Judge Seo didn't get arrested despite confessing to everyone that he killed his wife...

Overall I have a LOT more to say about this drama, but I wanna keep this as short as possible lmao. Honestly, I started watching this for the two main leads and stayed because I was curious as to how the story would play out and... I don't really regret it despite its shortcomings. I enjoyed this drama for the most part, oddly enough. There was a good balance of drama and comedy so it was a nice watch. Do I recommend watching it? Yes, if you like the cast and you like a good balance of genres but don't mind some plot holes, then go for it.

I did put alot of expectation about this drama, like it was gonna blown my mind. But after I watched a couple of episodes it was so exciting and somehow it was just PUFF... GONE. The characters kinda look stupid and reckless, it took years to develop the climax. Like how OYC managed to always present anywhere and everywhere Chamin and GoSeyeon go. The 'coindences' that follow behind, like when Chamin, GoSeyeon, and Heejin arrived at the hospital where HeeJin's mother hospitalized.. Seo Ji uk apparently took her a minute before. LIKE HOW?

They never focus on protecting each other knowing the great danger if they leave each other alone. The way Mido left Hee Jin in the parking lot or when the detective left Se Yeon with the driver and Hee Jin’s mother’s body are just too dumb. However, there are some things not falling into place.

1. Why does Hee jin look the same after she was revived? All characters revived had a different appearance after. When she was at the hospital, her eyebrows started turning white, and she had freckles so I thought she is gonna transform onto an old woman. But she didn't.

Maybe the director realized that Heejin's character would be lost if they changed her appearance mid way?

2. Oh Yeong cheol and Oh Seungcheol's identity. -Is Oh Yeong cheol, Oh Seung cheol's dad? -The real killer is Oh Seung cheol in the body of Oh Yeong cheol, an obsessed killer?

3. Go Seyeon has clearly remembered Oh Yeongcheol's voice and face, but isn't able to recognize the voice of the accomplice, ewhen in fact he talks to her almost every day? They always let the accomplice slide when they could've caught him earlier. ha ha ha

Didn't Gi-Man say he was sure YC killed her? Even if YC killed her after he revived, how tf was he so ready and prepared for it. Firstly, it was raining outside. Secondly, he had his partner. How did GM not see YC's partner? And how did the partner do nothing when YC was killed. I mean, he must've been there or been nearby.

Because of these, I honestly say that some of Abyss' plot twists are so predictable and not that surprising. BUT it does not mean it isn't great. As I said, SOME of it are predictable. You watch a lot of new parts when you watch new series. Other scenes from this series are so breathtaking and that you'll scream for justice or whatevs. anyways, personally i'll give this a temporary 7/10 since I haven't watch the ending yet.

Sadly, (spoiler) he's an accomplice of that annoying damn villain. Instead they joined detective Park in the love triangle. HAHAHAHAH I love Detective Park so so much. He's so funny and worthy at the same time.

also, can I just tell you all how hot Go Se Yeon and Cha Min's first kissing scene was? I jumped up and down on my bed in the middle of the night while watching it. i didn't expect that from Ahn Hyo Seop and Park Bo Young. damn this year has a lot of worthy dramas. i feel blessed??

For instance in the first episodes the evidence shown in the forensics reveals that the suspect can medically suture yet they do not suspect anyone who has medical background in their list. The BAU team would have arrested him in the first episode. plus i dislike their korean standards of beauty calling Park Bo Young ugly or common, when she is in fact very pretty.

I first saw him in the drama "still 17" and not gonna lie he still needed some practice. But now, he really did improve! And no. I am not being bias because of his appearance, I am looking at talent. Second is, the story line. I don't know why people are saying that it's cliche or draggy. Romance usually start at ep 8-10 and people who think that se-yeon only liked cha min back is because he's hot now, well you're wrong. From the start of the drama I already felt that se-yeon already had feelings for cha min. 20 years of "friendship," then calling him back multiple times just because he called her and lastly, she trusted him enough to leave her door open for him to come in. So in conclusion she liked her even before then. I don't want to give spoilers but even when they were in highschool it was obvious. What else? Uhh maybe the only flaw of this drama is that they made PBY a "COMMON" face. Like what?? How is it common? But nonetheless she did great as usual. AH AND ALSO! watch the drama the chemistry is so good.

1. The story. It is cliche, unoriginal, and boring. Just dont try to make crime story unless youre able to bring it to the level of those at the big screen.

2. The main male actor. I dont even know him since i dont know much abt korean drama, but maaan, his acting is way off. He cant even use his expression or voice tone for god sake. While I always admire Bo Young's acting capability, for her to have partner like him is a lost cause. His acting is waaayyy below Bo Young's. He has a bad acting, period.

3. Too many character introduced only in second episode. I cant remember any of them.

Well, i think the rating shows how uninteresting this series is. I only watched because of Bo Young, but damn, she landed the wrong drama.

I feel like watching Dragon Ball, where they can kill and revive people so lightly. Plus that Cha Min! I was annoyed at GO seon at first for being mean to him and all, but she is his saviour. That guy is not only naive, but he is also foolish. As for the show: it is all over the place. Thriller, fantasy, comedy, romance,... it makes me think of smashed bibimbap. btw, nobody is ugly. A person can be more attractive, or not so, depending on each standard...I truly hope not to see the old Chamin complaining as to how ugly he is and having such low self-esteem. Love yourself first the way you are, and people will see your true beauty.

I can't wait for each episode. I do think its funny that they keep saying Park Bo-Young is plain though! I've loved every drama I've seen her in, which is what ultimately convinced me to start this drama before all the episodes were released (which I usually wait for so I can binge if I like the show), and I've always thought she was very pretty. As for Ko Se-Yeon getting a "common" appearance because she wasn't a good enough person, I thought it was because she was extremely superficial. She wouldn't give Cha Min a chance because of his appearance even though he did whatever she wanted, so her soul reflected that aspect of her personality. Even Min said that in an episode that she only dated good looking guys, and she flaunted her looks. The first time she saw the new Min she was aggressive until she got a good look at him and became apologetic and nice.

Regarding Abyss.... As a fan of fantasy and crime series....This drama tackles the genre in a fresh way... The love progression between the leads are kind of slow...Yeah...but please do expect that because the drama mainly focuses on suspense and the mystery between the characters and of course, the magic marble, Abyss.... If y'all wanted a romcom you can watch Her Private Life instead. (Lowkey Recommending)

And Oh! People must also take note of the genres first before expecting something to happen in dramas too because genres explains the drama happenings alot.

Regarding the characters of Abyss.... @Tae explained it very well....

CHARACTERS MUST HAVE IMPERFECTIONS TOO..... why? Because their imperfection (for example: dumbness or bad at making decisions) makes the story!!! It's what makes the plot keep on going....it's what stirs problems or solutions in a drama that stirs viewers reactions.

Do give this drama a shot. I well recommend it especially for people who looks for something new and fresh for fantasies.

We still have like what? 8 episodes left? There are still a lot more to unveil. Let's all watch out for it.

Even Harry Potter, for once, he was very annoying (from what I read in the novel). The circumtances around Go Se-Yeon totally not easy. @Tae explained it very clear and well. I really recommended this suspense drama. For me, this is enjoyable. Give it a try. I feel Park Bo-Young super efforts in it. Yes, it is confusing at times, and there are some loopholes, but what fantasy drama doesn't have that? The plot of this show is a unique one, thus things are bound to be a bit messy. I think it is messy in a way that only engages viewers more. As @mars said, I honestly feel like most of you were expecting a lot of romance/comedy and got disappointed at the lack of it. Less romance does not equal to a boring drama. As for the characters...of course, they are bound to be all over the place. Can you imagine being put into a situation where you are killed by a serial killer who happens to have an abyss that can bring people back to life? In crime cases, people often make mistakes and act irrationally. For example, if you looked into the Ted Bundy case, you'd see how the people in charge missed things that seemed so obvious and acted in such an irrational manner. The guy escaped and killed more women after being caught and put in prison for godsakes! And that was just ordinary life. Here we have characters like Go Se Yeon who is experiencing something she wouldn't have even imagined in her wildest dreams. Do you guys really expect her to just act all rational and catch the criminal? That'd simply make the show boring and unrealistic. People in real life are often imperfect and frustrating, and I think Go Se Yeon replicates that well. Humans are flawed and often annoying. People become desperate and change their minds often. Prosecutors are usually more experienced and calm, albeit prosecutors don't usually lose their families and come back alive in different bodies either. So cut her some slack. As for Cha Min, the kid is a soft-hearted guy. He has been shielded by the protection of his mother his whole life. So, obviously, he'd miss stuff. And please remember that as viewers we get to see what is happening from different perspectives, so we know a lot more than the individual characters.

I'm sure we've made many irrational decisions whilst living ordinary lives and it is a bit ridiculous to see people complaining about the characters acting irrationally when they have clearly been put into such crazy situations.

So stupid that I've never seen a doctor look so messy and haggard like that and he instantly believed he's the attending doctor. Sure he was a surgeon but his looks now will puzzle you as it is out of place. Second, he's so stupid to think he can handle a serial killer who looks old. He should have shouted or asked for help earlier when he realized it was him inside the hospital. It is safer with a lot of people than alone with the serial killer. It's really frustrating that most of the time, deaths and bad things happen because of the character's stupidity.

As for Ko Seo Yeon it is naturally to have self-doubt or doubting other people cuz she was reincarnated for angel's sake. She still cant accept her own death , let alone reincarnated in other people's body so she doubts Cha Min on the first place is natural reaction.

mars May 10 2019 3:46 pm just started this show and i’m absolutely hooked! there is comedy, mystery, murder, fantasy, some heart-touching moments and potential romance; the whole recipe for a great drama! it’s directed and executed so well! the hour flies by and i’m left craving for more. the acting is great - as expected from ahn hyo seop and park bo young - and the characters are very charismatic. the background music makes the show seem like a high-budget Hollywood movie and the osts sound great. the story looks very promising and i can’t wait for it all to unveil!

I hope the first episode is the worst one in this drama and things get better now that PBY has shown up because so far this drama seems ridiculous and the plot a bit nonsensical. I don't mind melodramas with crazy plots but this one is just... the execution is all wrong so far. It doesn't flow well.

I might watch more episodes simply for Park Bo Young and the mystery behind the murders but I don't feel like I'll enjoy much else in this drama.

I can understand how Park Bo Young is, in terms of sex appeal at first glance, a more normal appearing person than Kim Sa Rang, at least-had they used anyone less gorgeous I would think she had been a perfect human in the prosecutor phase of her life-Park Bo Young is super cute (but sure, much more common meaning less exotic and 'dream girl' material for guys than Sa Rang who even at times took my lady breath away some in My Love Eun Dong! :P

If the first one, why not Bark Chilling as his first lead role? Though he's some handsome standards, he's sometimes in some angles have unattractiveness...or it may have been that courtroom drama where I don't think he's handsome in there, in terms of visual, not his character...

Anyway, why not him? Unless Jang Ki-yong is cast as lead role here, but I prefer KY as the handsome BFF of that ugly male lead hehe ?

anyway, regardless of my choice, hope the casting directors choose a capable actor. that's all is needed for this drama to succeed.
