Saburo Sugimura (Kotaro Koizumi) works for the PR department of a company which his father-in-law runs. his job is to edit the company newspaper.

One day, on the bus, Saburo Sugimura faces a hijacking attempt by an older person with a handgun. The police enter the bus, but the handgun goes off by accident and the hijacker dies. All the hostages are safe. The case seems solved, but the real mystery begins. The passengers and bus driver are due to receive compensation from the deceased hijacker.

I agree with MacLou below that the characters and the ending can be frustrating, but I think that is what makes everything so convincing and even compelling. There are no grand villains, just a lot of infuriatingly selfish, mean-spirited people. But it's not all doom and gloom - several originally rather unpleasant characters become better people by the end of the series. And I didn't find the ending surprising, mainly because I thought it had been kind of hinted at even in "Nameless Poison".

Yes, the fourth novel in Miyabe Miyuki's Sugimura series "Hope Apartments" was published in 2016. I think it's about Sugimura finally becoming a proper detective like Kitami (the Osugi Ren character that he admired so much), and taking on a case in that capacity. But it seems to have taken around 3 years for "Petero no souretsu" to be subbed in English, so even if they adapt "Hope Apartments" this or next year, we'd be lucky to see it before 2020... :(

I really liked this but sometimes I found some of the characters crazy frustrating to the point where I was screaming at the screen :P I also hated the ending, I didn't see it coming and I wasn't happy.

Jay Quintana Feb 05 2016 12:40 am Just saw episode one. Can't say I immediately took to the series (the fantasy scenes were kinda annoying), but it really came together in the end. I'm hooked.
