- "The Grand Master" will center around Wing Chun grand master Ip Man (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), who had several students who would later became martial arts teachers in their own right, including Bruce Lee.
- "The Grand Master" is set to become Kar Wai Wong's first martial arts film and marks the come back of actress Brigitte Lin.
- On November 21, 2009, Hye-kyo Song's management agency (이든나인엔테인먼트) confirmed that Hye-kyo Song has been cast in "The Grand Master". Hye-kyo Song is currently learning Cantonese and also the martial arts for her as of yet unnamed role in "The Grand Master". Kar Wai Wong previously mentioned during the 2004 Pusan International Film Festival that he would like to work with Hye-kyo Song.
