Hyun For those who have not seen ANY Khu Kam/Sunset of Chaophraya, I then recommend this to anyone. However, a warning for those who have already seen the remakes--especially the recent Khu Kam (2013) with Bie and Noona--you might be slightly disappointed. For instance, the scene with the fireflies and the Lumpoo tree is cut out and the scene where they finally have their union is not as "romantic" per se and slightly lacks the intimate feel (wont see Nadech with his shirt off). And sometimes the connection between the two lacked. It really is hard not to compare the 2013 lakorn with the 2013 movie as the lakorn just pulls off Thommayanti's novel; she even said that Khu Kam (2013) was the definitive version of her novel, so that's saying a lot when the 1988 version was once her favorite. I think the OST in the movie is really good. You will especially like the song "Hideko" (very heart wrenching). But there are only at least three scores throughout the whole movie so hopefully one might not get tired of listening to the same songs. I will say that Kittikorn did a fabulous job with directing the movie. I heard someone mention it on the same level as a Korean romance film which I will have to agree with.

I think Nadech did job well done with Kobori (Bie is probably the best), but I wish the film allowed him to express his love more though that's the only complaint I have with Kobori's scenes. Nadech was really impressive the times he shed tears while still looking manly. The guy that played Wanut looked too much of a rock star and wasnt too impressed with him.

Newcomer Amarawadee Decabales who played Angsumalin did well in the beginning but I felt that as the movie progressed she suddenly transformed into a Thai Kristen Stewart, especially during the part when Kobori was dying...I couldn't feel her sadness at all for his death. She felt like a stone to me. I liked how they expressed this Angsumalin as how she would really look. Noona in Khu Kam (2013) wore makeup all the time and felt that it wasnt natural for her to wear it during that time and every day, but I still think Noona is still my ideal Angsumalin.

Nadech and Bie's Kobori rate somewhat on the same level, but I think Bie's effected me more. I just loved his Kobori in Khu Kam (2013). Overall, I rate this movie 3.5/5. I think they shouldn't have made this move G rated. I think it should have been more intimate and allowed more touching (don't need to get R-rated) but with the main couple's kind of intense love, I think it needs to be displayed more. I felt that was a missing ingredient in the main couple of Sunset of Chaophraya. It was really hard to connect with them. I probably like the 1996 version of Sunset of Chaophraya...probably because it's much more close to Khu Kam (2013). However, I like the two leads better in the newer version of SOC than the 1996 one.
