Plot
After the death of the Crown Prince Lee Kak's wife, the Crown Prince transports 300 years into the future and arrives in 21st century Seoul, South Korea with his retainers. In the present day Seoul, the Crown Prince meets Joo Se-Na, who has an uncanny resemblance to his deceased Princess.

Past
Lee Kak (later played by Micky Yoochun) is the Crown Prince. When he is ready to marry, Lee Kak wants to marry a beautiful woman.
Boo-Yong (later played by Han Ji-Min) and Hwa-Yong (later played by Jung Yoo-Mi) are sisters. Hwa-Yong, the older sister wants to marry Crown Prince Lee Kak, but her father makes it clear that younger sister Boo-Yong will marry the Crown Prince. Hwa-Yong is so upset, she uses an an iron to burn Boo-Yong's face, pretending it was an accident. Now, Boo-Yong carries a big scar on her face. Eventually, older sister Hwa-Yong marries Crown Prince Lee Kak. Time passes and are now adults. Younger sister Boo-Yong is now a smart woman, good with needlework. Older sister Hwa-Yong is uneasy that her husband, Crown Prince Lee Kak, and Boo-Young get along well. One day, Crown Prince Lee Kak wakes up in the early morning. He finds that Hwa-Yong is not next to him. He feels something strange about the situation and calls for an eunuch. At this time, an eunuch comes running to the Crown Prince and informs him that Hwa-Yong is found dead in a pond. Lee Kak suspects that his wife's death is not by accident. He puts together a team to investigate his wife's death. When the team awaits to interview a witness, a group of assassins appears and chases them. Crown Prince Lee Kak and his men are chased to the edge of a cliff. The group jumps off the cliff.
Present Day
When Park Ha (later played by Han Ji-Min) was young, her father remarried and Park Ha gained older step-sister Se-Na (later played by Jung Yoo-Mi). When their parents left for work, older step-sister Se-na despised having to take care of her younger sister. One day, while younger sister Park Ha sleeps inside a truck, the truck suddenly departs. Even though Se-Na sees the truck leaving, she turns around and pretends that it isn't happening. Time passes, younger sister Park Ha is now living in America. While, Park Ha sells fruits as a sidewalk vendor, Yong Tae-Yong (Micky Yoochun) sees her and feels a connection with Park Ha. Yong Tae-Moo (Lee Tae-Sung) appears in front of Yong Tae-Young. They are cousins. The following day, the two men boards a yacht. While the boat is sailing, they have a small fight and Yong Tae-Yong falls into the water. His cousin doesn't attempt to save Yong Tae-Yong and actually attempts to hide evidence that he was there. He then jumps into the water and swims away. At this time, younger sister Park Ha receives a phone call that her family has been located in South Korea. Park Ha travels to South Korea and learns that her father has just passed away. At her father's funeral, Park Ha meets her step-mother and older step-sister Se-Na. Park Ha has no memory of how she was separated from her family. Park Ha settles down in Seoul. One night, when she comes back to her rooftop room, she discovers four men, in Korean traditional clothing, sitting in her room.

- First script reading took place at SBS Ilsan Production Center on February 1, 2012. Prior to the script reading main actors has a camera test in traditional costumes.
- Filming for "Rooftop Prince" began February 4, 2012. On February 7, 2012 a traditional wedding scene was filmed involving child characters of Crown Prince Lee Kak and Sena (see images #3 & #4 in Image Gallery). Filming for this scene took place Gyeonghui Palace in Seoul.

Rooftop prince is one of the best dramas i ever watch. Whoever made the story did a great job. The story deserves to have season 2 haha c^, more please seriously haha

The plot was good and the pace of the story is nice but halfway through it messed up and the ending is soo disappointing... There are so many plotholes left unanswered, and at the end it didnt clarify whether it was lee kak or tae was with park ha

it was really exciting and fantastic i watched it through internet 3 ep in a day and really want to be continue in season 2 and thanks all of the people whom helped to make this romance drama specially miss Han Ji-Min (park ha). i love all of you.

I cant sleep last night its because of the last episode!!! It feels like Im in pain too ........ I dont know what will i do ... I thought that Park HA and Lee Kak, Song Man- Bo, Do Chi- San, Woo Yong- Soo will meet again ,but my expectation was wron :( ........ SBS management hope to have another project for the rooftop prince season 2 this 2013. The ending episode ends with no period.It made me cry as always whenever I remember this drama..because I know the feeling of missing someone you really love.

I hope SBS will recognize the request to have a season 2 before Park Yo Chun enter the military. Though, the ending was so good but it feels me sad because they were separated after the case resolved as Pak Ha lives in the present day while Lee Gak in different era . If you may continue the story through all your mind , It sucks and really hurt because they really miss each other, they're just continue reminiscing the good memories but no chance to see each other. If there will be season 2, I hope the writer/ director will do a good and have happy ending, a clarity between Pak Ha and Lee Gak or Pak Ha and Tae Yong. Please.. have a season 2.. Episode 20 ( ending episode ) hangs the story what happens next.. Thanks.

It is one of the best korean tv series that I ever watched. All the kind of feelings are here, romance-drama-comedy-fantasy-mistery-history. Really Really Great TV series...combination of epic and modern days...a very well-made story. No big surprise if it will turn into movie, for sure it will be blockbuster...More success to all the casts :-)

I fell inlove with han ji-min! RP opened the Interest-door for me with regard to Kdramas! Now I'm a fan of Kdramas. Here's my little review about the series:
The whole plot was brilliant! Having those two eras combined into one soap is really Interesting to watch. The reincarnation theme of the soap was fantastic! The only gripe I have is with regard to having the villains arrested. Tae Yong had nth chances to have Tae Mu arrested. Se Na's lies are so obvious. Nevertheless, it's an awesome series!!!
Good job to the cast and to my new crush Han Ji-MIN!!!!!! :)) SEASON 2 PLEASE!!!

i love this, there's comedy that super made me laugh, there's romance that made me shudder there's drama that made me cry, there's action and suspense that made me nervous and thrilled. this korean drama has everything, I WANT "SEASON 2", i hope they'll make season 2..and i still want the main characters. i was hanged by the ending. "I WANT MORE". although i dont know if i feel sad at the ending or not because boo yong died and lee gak has no partner, only his friends. and pak ha got to meet tae yong....what about the prince?... (BTW that part hanged me i want another story about them)...i dont know if u getting what im saying. but somehow i feel depress and happy..SEASON 2! SEASON 2!!! SEASON 2!!!!

This drama... I just want to re-watch and re-watch again. I just hope that there is a drama that is very much similar to this! I know Queen In Hyun's Man is kind of similar to this drama, but still, I think that this drama is irreplaceable from all the dramas I've watched! ♥

I just finish watching this drama in 2days *well,I need sleep right? ;)* I do really enjoy watching this drama. For some reasons I feel really hateful with the antagonist cast, they really play well with their character. and really enjoy with 3side actors who help Lee Gak and many funny things happened between them. But some how there's a point of the ending that still left question mark to me. I mean like, so which one that Bak Ha meet at N Seoul Tower? lee Gak or Tae Yong? Because suddenly he's like changing the outfit, and the matter is, the one Bak Ha loves is Lee Gak, she never knew Tae Yong because of the accident that happened to him. Well, indeed Boo Yong left a letter to Lee Gak that she will always love him how many years. But still, not make sense that Bak Ha suddenly love Tae Yong and feel mellow when she meet him and BAM YooChun change his outfit to his king char in Joseon era?franky say, QIHYM the one who also has travel time like this at least makes it clear that JHW back to modern Seoul to meet with YIN even tho still "how come a person in Joseon able to live in 2012?" and another difference that he can't use his mobile phone in Joseon time, but Chi San able to use his mobile phone at the end? *even tho only to listen a song, still that's kinda weird*
Well, drama is drama, can't make it like reality one, but at least please make it a little make sense to make it a little bit "real". So far I do really enjoy this drama, so keep a good work to all the cast in this drama..! ^,^

My cousin was right when she told me to watch this! I absolutely loved it! And as she said whenever i jokingly asked her what to expect, she said "You'll cry as much as you laugh." Which is so true. :)

Rooftop Prince is one of my favorite korean drama ever! I really enjoy watching all the characters here especially the 2 main characters..Lee Gak and Pak Ha, hope there will be a second part of it because we love the story as well as the characters..Go for Lee Gak and Park Ha..love you both :-)

HIGHLY RECOMMEND ROOFTOP PRINCE. This drama is awesome! It ain't like any other drama. The story line has a great twist, really unexpected! (Just dont read the spoiler :D) Rooftop Prince is not a typical long winded AND predicted love story. There is a pinch of humour and thriller and not forgetting a really sweet romance. Still not convinced? Watch it NOW. U won't regret ;) kudos to the cast members , production team and singers for this wonderful drama <3 it has been months since I finished this drama and I still think about the silly acts and romantic scenes of rooftop prince pretty often :')

One of the best 2012 Korean dramas I've watched, I enjoyed the whole story, characters and moving between two periods. Yoochun's actor ability is so great. I can't realized defernce between old and new accent of Korean language but he was just a real prince. The ending was the most logical ending i could wait for,although it was not my ending but I'm greatly OK with it.

so far pretty good, but i have to say all the parts which were in english (including the english actors) were horrible. I can understand the korean actors, but even the 'foreign' actors that were casted were really bad.

I am so in love with this Korean romantic comedy series. Definitely falls on the top of my list! Han Jim Min and Yoochun's chemistry are so great! Plus Yoochun's three sidekicks are so cute, very funny and irresistible. Story-wise, excellent! The ending was fine. And cool. I wouldnt wish for any other ending. I think it's nicely done, at least for me. It reminded me of the movie, The Lake House. For those who havent seen this series, do yourself a favor. Watch it! Laugh hard and fall insanely in love!♥ Highly recommended. :)

but I believe after she watch the drama her opinion will change~ maybe he's not handsome but he's attractive. lol ^.^ and he potray lee gak so well..

I like this drama because everything is completely revealed in the last episodes.
Park Yoo Chun and Han Ji Min have a great acting.
I also loved the trio Joseon too, they make all scenes in this movie alive of fun. :)

Hmmm I don't know... I only watched this for Yoochun, so like most other girls on here I acted like a delusional, blind fan. It's a good drama, as far as typical k-dramas go. It has heart to it. However, I wouldn't see it's insanely better than any of the other ones out there.

Yoochun's acting is great; such an improvement. I don't have any complaints on how the other actors played their characters either. So moving on...
The characters themselves aren't too realistic, but hey it's a drama right? Who would expect it to be? Personally, I found that Bak Ha was a strong independent woman in the first half of the drama but she later turned out to be "weak" and dependent like all the other typical k-drama female leads. It was disappointing. Near the end, all we see is her bawling her eyes out.
The plot... gosh the plot was interesting at first but it has been done before by Hong Kong dramas and such. It's not fairly new. At the beginning, the comedic actions of the characters was definitely refreshing. However, in the second half of the drama, things were way too rushed and pieces did not fall into place. The connection between modern day and the Joseon era were poorly shown... and it was all rushed into the last episode. I think the directors and producers were trying to wrap it up as fast as possible because they squished too many cute scenes of Lee Gak and Bak Ha. Also, it doesn't seem like Tae Mu and Se Na were punished enough. Tae Mu just went to jail... that's it? And Se Na all of a sudden decides to be good? Way too rushed...
Finally, my personal complaint is this... and this happens to be a pretty big spoiler. But when Lee Gak went back to the Joseon Era, he SOMEHOW knew what Bu Yong had planned before she died. She gave up her life to save her sister and her family, despite their bad intentions. And Lee Gak decides to waste it!!! Bu Yong died for nothing...That's what it seems like to me.

Please continue the story - maybe put in the brother that was in the Choson era. I absolutely loved Rooftop Prince, the characters were so warm and heartfelt. Better than American dramas.
Thanks - keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more from Lee Gak and Bak Ha.

Awesome!! I swear man. All the actors were good (in my point of view) especially Sena's. I swear, She gave the right outlook of a villain AND a jealous sister. But when offstage, she's the sweet and kind girl the crown princess was supposed to be.
Aigoo... I'm not yet done. Still 2 episodes to go! Since the starting it was DAEBAK!

The chemistry between one to another character was so great
After i watched it, i directly in love with yoochun

ohh... this is the best drama .. people may say this is not good actor is this n that... but this is best drama... esp. the last 2 eps. and a very well scripted ending... YOOCHUN really gave justice to his character ... when i started the drama i was really curious about how the drama would end...n i watched the drama keeping in mind that there may be sad ending ...n i loved the ending ... most beautiful ending in kdrama. (in my view :D )

I am really impressed with Micky Yoochun and Han Ji Min with their overwhelming emotions in rooftop prince. This drama has truly captured my heart, I cried during the happy moments.. i felt like falling in love again while watching the final episode, love it:)

Instantly became my favorite drama! I have yet to see another show mix comedy, romance, violence, & heart as well as this one did! Also, there was no slump in story or acting (which is a rarity - let's be honest). For 20 episodes I was completely hooked and invested in each & every character. I'm sad that it's already over :(

The Ending was so Beautiful^^ Tears of Joy... Rooftop Prince is really the best, even to the last episode, FULL OF MIXED EMOTIONS (intense, laugh, shock, cry and most of all fall in love)... I hated the ending so much! I didn't get it and i don't think it was a happy one.
20 episodes and that's what i get ...............I dont see why they couldn't of just made them end up together :(((((
This was one of the best dramas i ever watched but i think the end ruined it for me...........Damn i got way too much emotionally attached to this drama that it's so upsetting that i didn't get the end i wanted.

Omo i cant wait for the last 2 episodes! This is one of the best dramas i have ever watched, It so unique and amazing in every way but i'm kinda scared about the ending. Lee gak and park ha better end up together, Also i think it was boo yong that died at the start of it not the crown princess since she boo young made the princes thing that has the flower and butterfly on it and when the girl died at the start, the butterfly left and landed on park ha's shoulder. I guess we'll only know next week. I don't know how they are going to tie everything up in 2 eps, It might be a little rushed >.< But anyway guess i have to have another week of painfully waiting, Bbasha! <3

really good show- beware of the pilot, i think many people would get the wrong idea, there is too much information and the whole america-korea back and forth felt too much.. and it wasn't as funny as the rest of the show, so it's a bad representative, but overall one of the best k-dramas i saw in a while.. :)

I am really impressed with Micky Yoochun and Han Ji Min. Micky has an amazing and unique ability as an actor/comedian. Wow! What a delightful experience it is to watch him. His body language and expressions are so endearing. This drama will not be forgotten because of his talent. Also I cannot speak well enough of Han Ji Mins' talent. She is lovely and combines strength and vulnerability, seriousness and cuteness perfectly. Often actresses are either too cute or too serious. The dynamic between hers and MIckys' character is so much fun to watch. I have never been so delighted by a couple before. I hope they do more parts together.

I think this drama is better than king 2 hearts. I watch king 2hearts because of Ha Ji Won and Lee seunggi. But I don't find any Interest in that drama. I'm really dissapointed.... :(

@sana. i won't say yoochun is ugly, but he is not handsomme too. BUT i think his face get better since separated from DBSK. Maybe he got more attention when just being 3 people in JYJ. Anyway, his voice are not as good as junsu and jaejoong but i think his acting is better than two of them, and even changmin and uknow's acting are not as good as yoochun. that's why yoochun get more drama to be a lead role....

I can't believe Han Ji-Min is going directly from the lead in Padam Padam to the lead in Rooftop Prince without a break. Where does she get the energy?
The show itself looks interesting, a bridge between modern day dramas and period pieces. Truth be told, I think anything is going to be something of a letdown when compared with Padam Padam, but that's what happens when a show sets a new standard for awesome.
