- Film festival started in 2005 as the "Korea Entertainment Film Festival" and then rebranded itself as the "Osaka Asian Film Festival" in the following year.
- For the 2011 edition, the Osaka Asian Film Festival implemented its first Competition section chaired by jurors Isao Yukisada, Kim Dae-Woo, and Milkman Saito (film critic). Winner of the first "Grand Prix" award is Hong Kong film "Lover's Discourse".
