Kotaro Ikawa was born in 1976. At Hitotubashi university, he learned cinema theory from Kan Nozaki and started to make films.

Biography

Kotaro Ikawa began his film career as a cameraman. His directorial debut is the work of a one-man film crew: he receives credit not only for direction, but for script, production, cinematography, and editing. At the center of Lost in Tokyo are Kotaro’s peers and fellow Tokyo-ans. He states that the inspiration for his film came from John Cassavetes (primarily Husbands), particularly the liberated directing style and the structure of the sets, affording the actors total freedom to improvise. For this, the requirements are intelligent actors and precisely crafted compositions, and the result is a mature and impressive first work.
