Plot

In 1943, as Japan's WWII effort falters, a vice-admiral proposes training squadrons of "volunteer" flyers to crash their armed planes into Allied warships. Story follows the lives of kamikaze pilots, as remembered by an aging Kyushu restaurateur who cherishes their memory.

Watching the movie gave flesh at last to those nameless young boys who gave their lives to a senseless cause. They are not lunatics for being kamikazes. Rather, they were simply victims of an awful militaristic mentality. Never to war again.
