What is "AsianWiki"
AsianWiki is a website devoted to Asian films, television dramas, music (more coming later) and the performers behind these productions. Our website is powered by wiki software, the same as Wikipedia.org, which allows any visitor to edit or add new pages.
Can I Make An Account?
Right now, user registration is closed. We are a small group of editors and we would rather spend our time making great content rather than monitoring new users. If you have a special skill that you would think would be helpful to us contact us through the ""Contact Form" above and we will consider making an account for you.
How do I edit a page ?
To edit the whole page at once, click the "edit this page" tab at the top. To edit just one section, click the "edit" link to the right of the section heading.
How do I create a new page ?
There are several different ways to create a new page, all of which produce the same results.
Create a link to the page on a pre-existing page (that is applicable), then click on the red link which appears.
Click a preexisting red link on an article page and you can then create a new page for that red link.
Type into the search box (not the google search box) the title of the page that you want to create, if a page with that title does not exist you should see "There is no page titled "EXAMPLEPAGENAME". You can create this page." Just click the red "create this page" link in that message.
What format should a new page take ?
New pages should follow the same format as other pages in that specific category. Movie article pages should have these sections: "Profile", "Plot" (if available), "Cast", category tags (Korean films, Japanese, Chinese films, etc). View the source of any similar page to get more details. Note sections are always created by using double equal signs (ex. ==Example Sub-heading==)
Actors, Actresses, and directors should also have at the minimum sections for "Profile", "Filmography" (broken down between "Movies" and "Television" if applicable), and category tags (actor or actress / country of origin etc).
Correctly naming article pages & links
Because AsianWiki links to other pages automatically, exact name spelling is crucial. Although movie titles, actors, actresses, directors may have many different ways to spell their names on AsianMediaWiki their names must be spelled in one unique manner.
Individual Names
Currently, for the country of Japan we use the western format of given name family name. For the country of Korea we use family name given name format. China is currently under the western format, but we are considering changing it to family name given name format in future.
Movie Titles
If there is an English title given by their respective producers, we will use the English title. This is simply because it is easier to remember and search for "Memories of Matsuko" than it is to search for its respective Japanese title "Kiraware Matsuko no issho" or "Ad Lib Night" rather than its Korean title "Aju teukbyeolhan sonnim".
How do I make links?
Simply placing double square brackets around a word creates links.
As an example if you want to create a link to the Joe Odagiri page simply place double brackets around Joe Odagiri like
[[Joe Odagir]]
and it will automagically become
Joe Odagiri.
How do I upload images?
You must first make an account on AsianWiki. Then simply look on the lower left sidebar of any AsianWik page and you should see "Upload file" or "Upload Multiple Files". Click either of those links and upload your image (.jpg, .gif, and .png are supported).
To add an image to a specific article page you must copy the uploaded image's entire name in this format:
Image:Marine Boy.jpg
and paste that into an article page. Simply pasting Marine Boy.jpg will not work.
You can add the image individually by using double brackets, the entire image name, pipe, image size, pipe, thumnail, (pipe, caption - if you chose to add caption). The added image you would input would like this:
[[Image:Marine Boy.jpg|250px|thumb]]
You can also create an image gallery by following this format:
==Image Gallery==
<gallery>
Image:Marine Boy-01.jpg
Image:Marine Boy-02.jpg
Image:Marine Boy-03.jpg
</gallery>
Please do not add comments sections - they will not work. AsianWiki staff will place the comment section for each and every new page that is created. This is because the comments section requires access to another part of the website that only sysops have access to.
How to place Videos ?
Currently you can only place youtube videos on any article page. To place a YouTube video on any page simply add a line that looks like :
==Trailers==
{{YouTubePlayer|url=watch?v=8hPGOZYzRRk}}
replace the v="youtubeidnumber" portion with the youtube ID you want to include.
We also have our own hosted videos but at this time only sysopscan add these videos.
