My friend and I saw this at the Japanese Film Festival in Sydney, and both loved it! We cried at the ending, and especially loved all the scenes with the sweets.

Don't knock the kitchen knife! He uses it very effectively in the movie.
I saw this at the San Diego Asian Film Festival and loved it (as did the rest of the audience). As soon as I can find a reasonably-priced DVD, I plan on buying it. Sweet (heh, especially for people who have seen the movie), unexpectedly funny, touching. Well worth viewing!

At first, I thought it's quite a generic one but I came to like all the elements (characters and situations), which are apparently compelling. Very light, indeed.

Hopefully this movie got some flashback to his edo era period time!
I want to see him use his katana sword! Not a friggin' kitchen knife!
