Plot
Medical drama series "Brain" involves around three doctors at prestigious Chunha University Hospital.
Lee Kang-Hoon (Shin Ha-Kyun) is an excellent, but arrogant, brain surgeon at Chunha University Hospital. He came from a poor family background and is still haunted by the painful memory of his father's death which was caused by the rejection of a doctor. Kang-Hoon has a strong desire to succeed and prove that he is the best. His rival is Joon-Suk (Jo Dong-Hyeok) who comes from a family of doctors and has basically everything. Kim Sang-Chul (Jung Jin-Young) is known as the best brain surgeon at Chunha University Hospital. He also cares about his patients and has a strong dislike for Kang-Hoon.
One day, a young man collapses at an indoor swimming pool and is sent to the hospital. The patient is Unconscious on arrival. Kang-Hoon gives the order to prepare for surgery, but Joon-Suk suggests that they call Kim Sang-Chul to perform the surgery. Kang-Hoon replies that there isn't enough time and performs the surgery himself, while other doctors observe the operation.
During the surgery, there's a dangerous moment when the patient's aneurysm ruptures. At this time, Joon-Suk calls Kim Sang-Chul. Kim Sang-Chul runs to the operation room. Meanwhile, Kang-Hoon manages the operation well and the surgery is a success, but he leaves the last clip for the vice director of the hospital. Kang-Hoon wants to gain the favor of the vice director. Because of her arrogant attitude, he isn't welcome by anybody at the hospital.
While, Kang-Hoon takes a rest in his office he receives a phone call from his younger sister. Kang-Hoon says he is busy and hangs up. He attends a conference of junior doctors. There Kang-Hoon asks questions to the junior doctors, but none of them are able to answer his questions. Kang-Hoon then asks for their chief doctor who is Ji-Hye (Choi Jung-Won). Ji-Hye is not there. Kang-Hoon yells at them to follow him.
On the way, Kang-Hoon and his partiy happens to meet Kim Sang-Chul and Ji-Hye. Kim Sang-Chul blames Kang-Hoon for not checking on his patient after the surgery.
When Kang-Hoon is back in his office, he begins to blame the others and especially Ji-Hye, who did not graduate from Chunha University. Ji-Hye talks back to Kang-Hoon. Kang-Hoon decides to seek revenge by giving out work. While Ji-Hye is writing a report asked for by Kang-Hoon, Joon-Sook surprises her. Ji-Hye replies that she can't understand why Kang-Hoon has such a strong dislike for her. Joon-Suk tells her not to confront Kang-Hoon. At the cafeteria, Kang-Hoon eats lunch alone. Joon-Suk asks Kang-Hoon to be nice to Ji-Hye. Kang-Hoon aks him whether he likes her.
Notes
- "Brain" will take over the KBS2 Mon & Tue 21:55 time slot previously occupied by "Poseidon" and will be replaced by "Dream High Season 2" on January 30, 2012.
- On September 20, 2011 Lee Sang-Yun, Yoon Seung-Ah, Lee Hyeon-Jin, & Kim Soo-Hyun were removed from the drama series. The four actors and actress had their first script reading on September 17, 2011. Staff believed those actors did not fit their characters due to age, acting, personality differences.

I loveeee this drama n it was a good drama. I have watched alot of korean drama n this one is really good with great actors, especially Shin Ha-Kyun as dr. Lee. Two thumbs up.

it is the best korean drama I have seen yet. The line story's is unique and very interesting. I don't think korean drama can display a medical drama so beatiful and preffessional. As a person who have doctoral degree in life science I enjoyed watching it and congratulate KBS for this. In the other hand the castings of drama were very excellent and match with their roles specially Lee Kang Hoo was very respectable who portrayed a intelegent and perfect man so goog. I like lovely and arogant Lee Kang Hoo so much.

great drama...can't wait for the 20th but also sad that that is the last!!!!very touching last scene on the 19th episode last night. instead of kissing she should have hung on to his neck and he should have cuddled her and that would have shown more acceptance of each other.....

I was surfing looking for something that I could enjoy, and there is was BRAIN! What a good cast and I have just found out it is over in a few episodes. Well.....I have nothing that reaches and maintains the "high" of this drama. Kudos to all who have made a memorable TV show! Will it be released on a DVD? Or, rerun in the future? The last episode I saw I believe was #15. Please advise. Thanks you for the English sub-titles....without them I would have been somewhat lost.

I thought it was going to be a boring drama. But never once I missed an episode. And now it's finish, so sad. I'm going to miss them all.

I dont think there is any other actor who can do this role better than him(Shin Ha Kyun)....it was written just for him.We surely going to miss him.I wish there is another sequel to Brain as we hadn't had enough of it.

sad to know that the ratings of Brain dipped because of the cable operators problem. This is a great drama series that should have not been affected by the turmoil with KBS. Nonetheless, kudos to KBS for creating a great series. Hope to see more of Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won on the small screen.
The moon that embraces the sun seemed a very promising series as well.

I think Brain will have higher rating than Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, but it was wrong. I think the story can be more developed.
To be honest, the four main characters have showed their own charming in this drama (especially for Shin Ha-kyun and Choi Jung Won).
There will be another idol. They have to make another colaboration. Get more awards and prizes for "Brain", jia you!!!

Well, I was very happy to see the ending of ep.19...I was expecting there would be
another romance scene...
But, at ep.20, I don't know, and I don't get it !!! Why would have this ending? For me, the
ending is almost dissapointed (from 1-10, my dissapoint score is 8.5). I don't think that this episode will get high ratings,and I think the fans maybe ("Maybe"!!!) dissapointed for the ending. But good work for the rest...hopefully the two of the stars (Shin Ha-kyun and Choi Jung-won) will have another collaboration in another drama/ movie.

Very good and interesting story line. I love dr Lee Gang Hun character in this drama, a very good acting from Shin Ha Kyun, this drama has'nt end yet but he already won an award for his role as dr Lee Gang Hun, congrats for him got Daesang award from KBS drama awards 2011. Wish to see him more often in other drama.

Wow, this is awesome. I must admit that I am a PSH fan. I watch nothing except PSH drama. However, Shin Ha Kyun caught my attention when he won the recent KBS grand award. Curious, I checked out his drama, Brain, just today. I am hooked to this drama. Really good. His acting is superb, very expressive and he is just great. Infect, all the other actors and Choi Jung Won are very good too, great acting. I love this drama....

Congrats for this Drama which won prizes at 2011 KBS Drama Awards. Shin Ha-kyun plays the drama nicely. Hopefully this drama will have a clear and happy ending story. Can't wait to watch !!! :D

OH my I'm so addicted to BRAIN. Shin Ha Kyung is so amazing, his acting is so moving and intense woah! I hope that it will have a good ending cause i always root for dr. lee gang hun. also the doctors are so cute! the one with the glasses and always sleeping :3
Also it is very realistic in terms of the medical terms and procedures. Great korean drama~~~

Shin Ha- Kyun as the brilliant , ambitious but arrogant character in Dr. Lee is superb !!! I just love to watch him. Hopefully his romance with his subordinate -the ever compassionate Dr.Yoon Ji-Hye will hit off as a romantic pair of hard vs soft personality ( Just love the scene when Dr.Lee gave a passionate hard kiss to Ji-Hye,when
she professes her love for him. Hopefully more passionate scenes from this pair plse :-) Read somewhere that Brain series will be finished by end Jan, and replaced by Dream High. Hopefully the producers of "Brain " will consider a Brain Part 2 very soon with Dr.Lee, Ji-Hye in the cast again ??? This TV series caters to all members of the
family , especially the politics , job skills & rivalry we can easily identify in our daily careers be it doctors, lawyers ,bankers etc

I discovered this show while surfing channels last week and I really thank God for it. I have to admit I haven’t really watched any medical drama in the past, let alone a single episode of ER I didn’t finish, but upon completing one episode; I would have to say it’s the best medical drama I have known! The perfect combination of office politics, suspense, romance, and medical information will entertain and educate its viewers. I commend the medical definitions shown – it gives audiences a sense of connection since they now know the meaning of the medical terms mentioned.
I am really touched and moved by Shin Ha-Kyun’s performance. It’s very realistic and even though my personality is different from Lee Ganghun, I can empathize to the loneliness he is feeling. I am all for the Lee Ganghuns of the world.
I would highly recommend Brain to everyone especially to those intending to study medicine. Brain is like a sign from heaven that I should pursue becoming a doctor. I am currently applying at medical schools for the coming school year and this series came at just the right time.
Congratulations KBS for a superb project! More power!
