Plot Synopsis ep. 1-16
Rumi is a government employee at the City Hall. Her scrambled efforts to come up with a proposal called, “Project Orchestra” is green-lighted by the higher-ups. Now she must manage the project. News that the producer of Project Orchestra stole the funds for the project disappoints everyone and the orchestra members leave although the city mayor has not been notified about this breach.
Rumi has to make sure the performance will go ahead on schedule and she starts to hang posters of the orchestra around the streets. She is drawn to Gun-woo’s home when she hears him playing the trumpet. While riding the subway, Rumi becomes self-conscious about herself in front of Gun-woo and continues to play the violin. She follows Gun-woo, who gets off the subway without acknowledging her. After a lot of disappointments, she is finally able to hold the first performance given by Project Orchestra in front of City Hall. When Rumi tells the orchestra members that their new conductor will be Kang Ma-ae, everyone’s expression freezes.
Arriving at the airport, Kang Ma-ae is received by Rumi and Gun-woo. He goes to Gun-woo’s home. While browsing the profile of the orchestra members, Kang Ma-ae stops when he sees Kang Gun-woo’s name. Kang Ma-ae enters Gun-woo’s home and when Gun-woo arrives later, he asks Rumi to get Kang Ma-ae out of his home. Kang Ma-ae tells Gun-woo to move out of the house because he wants to live there alone.
When Kang Ma-ae listens to the lackluster orchestra play a piece, he glares at them and leaves. He then tells Rumi that he will return to whence he came. Gun-woo and Rumi go to a public place where they play their instruments in harmony. Kang Ma-ae becomes upset when his pet dog becomes ill. Gun-woo offers to take Kang’s pet to a vet if he agrees to be the conductor of their orchestra.
The orchestra members persuade Hee-yeon not to quit the orchestra. Gun-woo tells the orchestra members to stay longer to practice. Yong-ki stands over the members and has a serious expression on his face like Kang Ma-ae. Hyeok-kwon gets annoyed. The orchestra practices with Gun-woo who stands in as the ad hoc conductor. Gun-woo slightly improves in his conducting skills after studying Kang Ma-ae’s book on conducting.
Kang Ma-ae finds something odd when he sees Gun-woo clapping his hands to the rhythm of the orchestras. Rumi is surprised to hear that Eaton is a high school dropout from Gabyong. Then Eaton’s family come to the rehearsals. Kang Ma-ae learns that the orchestra is practicing late at night and then he tells Rumi to remove Gun-woo, Rumi tells him that Gun-woo is an important member and they must have him on the orchestra.
President Kang learns about Project Orchestra and sends a flurry of complaints to Rumi. When Kang Ma-ae hears that the conductor under consideration to replace him is Chung Myung-hwan, he chews on his green tea leaves bag. He tells everyone that the performance the orchestra will give soon will meet everyone’s expectations.
Kang Ma-ae forces the members to practice harder than ever before and when he breaks his arm, he orders Gun-woo to stand in as the conductor. Kang Ma-ae tells President Kang not to look down on the orchestra members and vows to put his reputation on the line if they don’t perform well. The orchestra members are impressed with his charisma and thoughtfulness. Gun-woo says he’ll have to drop out of the orchestra because he cannot delay his return to work.
On the day of the performance, Rumi appears at the concert hall and bumps into Gun-woo. Rumi and Gun-woo try to act natural around each other. Kang Ma-ae goes up to Gun-woo, who is directing traffic as a traffic cop, if he is happy with what he is doing. While Hee-yeon is rehearsing, her husband appears and drags her out of the room. When Yong-ki hears about this, he tells the other orchestra members.
Rumi has trouble hearing as she hears screeching sounds in her ear intermittently. She looks woefully at Kang Ma-ae. While standing in the middle of the road, Gun-woo stops what he is doing and runs to the concert hall. Kang Ma-ae conducts the orchestra with his eyes on Rumi. Rumi is able to focus on her playing. Kang Ma-ae calls Hee-yeon and asks her to do a solo performance.
Kang Ma-ae tells Rumi that if Shi-hyang wants to participate in the audition, then she must get a doctor’s letter that says she has a clean bill of health. The orchestra members raise their eyebrows when they see Gun-woo take a call from Kang Ma-ae, who urges him to enter the auditions. Gun-woo tells Rumi the date of the audition by text message.
On the day of the audition, Rumi and Yong-ki play at their very best but Kang Ma-ae gives them low marks. After Gun-woo learns that Rumi has a hearing problem, he suggests to Kang Ma-ae that they call in the former orchestra members as backup. At Shi-hyang’s rehearsals, Gun-woo tells Rumi that he’ll be a backup player in the orchestra.

The members arrive at the concert hall just in time but the performance is already over. The members show their gratitude to Kang Ma-ae who did what he could for them. After giving a stirring performance in the outdoor concert hall, Gun-woo returns home and tells Kang Ma-ae who will leave soon that he will work hard to become a better conductor.
Mayor Choi recommends Kang Ma-ae to be an advisor for the Shihyang Orchestra with the intent to hire a new conductor but the Shihyang Orchestra members tell him that they’ll choose the conductor and they try to persuade Kang Ma-ae to stay. After Lee Deun performs at the Genius Concours, he takes a ride in Rumi’s car to see Gab-yong who will be leaving with his son. They head to the train station. Kang Ma-ae receives official documents from the Munich Philharmonic. He gives Gun-woo a series of assignments when Gun-woo asks him to be his teacher. Kang Ma-ae’s eyes stray towards the date of the Goose’s Dream performance and the sheet music. The orchestra members receive a text message from Kang Ma-ae about a farewell party that he is throwing. The members bring their instruments with them to the concert hall and they perform the Goose’s Dream piece with gusto.
Kang Ma-ae gives Rumi his ring and they thank each other. Mouse Philharmonic and Seokran Shihyang Orchestra give a joint concert and Gun-woo hands over the conductor baton to Kang Ma-ae to let him lead the two orchestras.
